  Invitations are sent 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding for a non-DW. I would venture that you could send them a little earlier for a DW and not get a side-eye.

  No, no one would say that. You always need to send formal invitations.
  
  Send them 6-8 weeks before your wedding. Given that yours is in October, you would be sending invitations no earlier than August. It doesn't matter if it's a destination wedding or not.

  I think the only reason some people suggest sending invitations earlier for a DW is, if you had not sent STDs, guests may need ample time to book flights and/or hotel rooms. Since you sent STDs with all that info, I don't think invites need to go out any sooner than normal, so 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding.
