Nicknames

I'm bored so I thought I ask a random fun question.
What is your nickname for your SO and what is his for you? And how did you come up with the names?
Mine for him is Monkey, because of his ears. His for me is Teddy Bear, because he likes to cuddle with me.

Re: Nicknames

  • I just realized our nicknames based on TV shows. I call him Sugarbear, a reference to Community. And he calls me Brown Bear, a reference to Scrubs. He also likes to call me any number of variations of my first name: Bert, Betty, Betsy, Bets, Bee, etc.  And, he sings random pop songs and insert my name into the lyrics. ie, comes into the room singing "Never gonna give Beth up, Never gonna let Beth down".

I'm not that creative or funny, so all he gets is Sugarbear, and the occassional Babycakes.
  • I call him Tyler. He calls me Allie. These are our names.

  • I call FI BaBoo Bear, Charming, Puddin' and Tiger Eyes. FI call me My Jordan.
  • We call each other beebles and variations of beebles. It's gotten to the point where I forget what his real name is sometimes and vice versa. It's entirely normal for new people we meet to be like, "....wait guys, what are you calling each other? what is that?"

Beebles. Bobble. Bobbler. Beeblebobble. Bobblestein. Smeebs. Smeebles. etc into oblivion.

I would say it's cute, but it's not. At this point it's just weird.

  • I call FH Babe, Hon, and Boyfriend usually. If we are with a group of his friends I will cave and call him Purp. I try not to but when he gets around his college friends he forgets his actual name. He usually only calls me Stephie unless he is away and than he calls me Babe.

In college I had a friend who wanted to call his GF "Ma" since Denzel called his wife that in Remember The Titans. She only responded to him when he call her that once they were engaged.

  • I call my H "Sweetie" and "Big Man".  He calls me 'Sweetie" too, and "My Dove".

  • It's not original, but we call each other "dear".  We say that so much that if we address each other using our real names, it just sounds weird :p
  • FI is my bear and I'm his sweet bottom LOL.

[QUOTE]In all seriousness, the only nickname I usually address H with is babe. Which is also how I address the gay husband, so when they're both in the room at the same time, it's really confusing. I do occasionally call H Daddy in a store or something but it's our inside joke because we've had so many sales clerks assume he's my dad then get super embarrassed when he grabs my ass or something. H only calls me nicknames in sexual scenarios and none of them are TK friendly.

  • Wow. I'm amazed that so many other people have people think their SOs are their fathers. I've gotten that a couple of times and I just laugh.
  • I call BF snuggleupagus, honey, or (my personal favorite) hey you with the face.

He calls me honey, dear, or fishy.

When Gagnam Style was a thing, he thought it'd be cute to start saying "Heyyyyyyyy sexy girlfriend"  and it's stuck.  I do it to him sometimes too.

  • I usually just call him babe or love (or lover). He calls me baby, which is now confusing sometimes because he actually talks to the baby (which we've nicknamed peanut).
  • Teddy Bear is cute :) I call my OH Bambi/Bambino/Bambs because he has these big huge eyes that make him look like a Disney character. He calls me "my Vienetta" because my name rhymes with Vienetta, or just baby/babe/babygirl.

Creepy how many of you have fallen victim to wrong assumptions of OH being a family member or vice versa!
  • Jakey for him and Ally for me (Jacob and Alex, so not much difference).
However: My dog's name is Jake, so I NEVER call him Jake, and it drives me insane when other people do (that's not his name!) and just recently I caught him introducing himself like that and I said, oh so you're Jake now, you want me to call you that? And he explained that he calls himself whatever the person he's talking to calls him.
So I've decided to start calling him "Sexy Beast" in public so, according to his own rule, he must refer to himself as that. We will see how it goes. Wink

  • My nicknames for him are Cracka or Babe and he mostly calls me Honk-ey or occasionally Hamma.
  • Lyn and Vin (first part of our names). He loves saying our nicknames together.  Sometimes we call each other babe or baby.   He also calls me peanut head because he thinks my head is small.

DH is legally Vincent, but goes always goes by Vinny or Vin.    If I want his attention I call him Vincent.  In public people always laugh because when he hears me say "Vincent"  he stops what he is doing and looks at me with this funny look like "am I in trouble?"

Along the lines of mistaking dads for husbands and visa versa.  When my son was a baby, we all went to my hometown's festival and carnival.  Pretty big deal back then.  Anyway, xH was happily ensconsed in the enclosed beer pen, so dad and I just wandered around the fair.  He was carrying my son and we were just chattering and looking at things.  Well, next thing you know, it's "did you see the old man that Marrin M is married to?"  This was well before the days of social media so it was the old fashioned grapevine.

As for pet names, we don't really have any.  H calls me "hon" a lot, but I call him by his first name.
  • Fi calls me a variety of names... my favourite is Jennibear. There's a story behind it, because I got my glasses when I was 4, and in 1992 the styles were horrific lol so I was self conscious about it. My grandmother bought a bear with glasses, and named it the Jenny Bear to make me feel better. So when I told fi this story, he decided to call me Jennibear.

He also calls me Jemelera (which is a mix of all my names - I have 3 middle names lol), swimmy (because that was my screen name when we met online), swimmyness, boobella, and sl*t muffin (we started as a joke trying to think of derogatory names with something cute, and he came with that - it ended up sticking lol).

I don't have many names to call him because I'm not that creative...most of the tme I just call him Jon or Jonathan, which is his name. But to annoy him I say Jonni-poo

    Thanks!
  • Have the "babe" "hun" "honey" and "baby". Though one of our cats is my cuddle bug, and I call her my sweet baby. Got a little awkward yesterday when she walked up, I said "hey baby!" and FI said "what?" followed by an "oh, not you" from me.

He calls me chipmunk (hence my screenname) due to how my cheeks plump up when I smile. He also calls me monkey since I pay attention to grooming both of us than he does (ie, brushed hair, no unibrow, etc. The man will do it himself, but I check on a regular basis in case he misses something, like a spot shaving).

He'll say "hey beautiful" to which I respond "hey handsome." He recently tried "hey sizzle britches," then spent 10 minutes laughing when I turned around and deadpanned "hello yourself, mr. yummy pants." Smile
  • FI calls me "babe" so much that when we babysat together, by the end of the night my little charge was calling me "babe" too. So that was awkward. I usually call him babe or baby, but if I want to piss him off I call him "Pookie wookie lovey-kins". It's fun !

  • He's usually Babe or Sweetheart but sometimes I refer to him as my "Knight in Dirty Cammo" (he's military)

I'm Hon, Babe, Baby and when I am whining "AW MUFFIN" haha
  • I call FI either Gogey/Gogey Bear (His family is big on nicknames and his is Goge (like Go-g) or I call him McStinkers.  In the beginning it was snuffy (because he is hairy and snuggly, lol) but that one is rare now (he is still hairy and snuggly though Smile).  Or I will call him Mikey.

For me, when we started dating it was Babe, and then it became Schnizzle Puff because I had this  snow jacket that was white and puffy with the furry hood;  In then became snizzy or snizzy poo and that one has stuck.  He will still call me Babe too-- rarely he calls me by my first name.
