I was in Vegas this past weekend with my FI doing some wedding planning. We are getting married at the Bellagio in August. We have room blocks at Aria and the Bellagio, but we have been informally recommending Bally's to people looking for more affordable accomodations.
We made the recommendation for Bally's based upon our stays at Bally's in the past (probably back in 2010 and 2011). The rooms are pretty big and the North Tower seemed fine to me. Granted, it is not the fanciest place on the stip, but the location is stellar (especially for us because of the walk way leading over the strip to the Bellagio). The prices at Bellagio are pretty steep and I now I have a pretty good chunk of family staying across the street at Bally's since they will all be there for 5 days. (The price was great, with 5 nights averaging out to about $89 bucks a night in mid-August).
So this past past weekend, FI and I walked over to Bally's to check it out as we have not been there in a long time. We walked from the strip into Bally's on the "moving" sidewalk. I say moving in "quotes" because it wasn't moving. In fact, the whole entrance into Bally's was a mess! The moving sidewalks were all broken and there were TONS of cigarette butts all over the walk ways. The water in the fountains leading up to the entrance was disgusting (dirty, brown, really gross). Clearly, the area has not been maintained at ALL for a while. Every single escalator going OUT from Bally's to the strip along this walk way was out of order. They had roped it off completely. FI and I were floored at how bad it was.
I understand that Bally's was going to tear down this walk way and put up some shopping area leading into the casino. I read that the project was put off until 2014. Well, to me it looks like they just gave up on this area. Does anyone know what is going on in this area?
I'm completely torn right now. I like the location (and I will say, we walked through the casino and it looked fine and clean). But I really thought it looked SO bad, especially in comparison to other casinos along the strip. I'm toying with the idea of moving my family to the Flamingo. (I'm paying for all of them to stay and I cannot afford that many rooms at the Bellagio). The room block at Aria would be fine, but it is much further away. Augh! I'm so torn!
I guess I just needed to vent! But if anyone has any info on whether Bally's plans on cleaning up its entrance way, I'd love to hear it! Thanks....
