Nevada-Las Vegas

Bally's is a mess!

I was in Vegas this past weekend with my FI doing some wedding planning.  We are getting married at the Bellagio in August.  We have room blocks at Aria and the Bellagio, but we have been informally recommending Bally's to people looking for more affordable accomodations.

We made the recommendation for Bally's based upon our stays at Bally's in the past (probably back in 2010 and 2011).  The rooms are pretty big and the North Tower seemed fine to me.  Granted, it is not the fanciest place on the stip, but the location is stellar (especially for us because of the walk way leading over the strip to the Bellagio).  The prices at Bellagio are pretty steep and I now I have a pretty good chunk of family staying across the street at Bally's since they will all be there for 5 days. (The price was great, with 5 nights averaging out to about $89 bucks a night in mid-August).

So this past past weekend, FI and I walked over to Bally's to check it out as we have not been there in a long time.   We walked from the strip into Bally's on the "moving" sidewalk.  I say moving in "quotes" because it wasn't moving.  In fact, the whole entrance into Bally's was a mess!  The moving sidewalks were all broken and there were TONS of cigarette butts all over the walk ways.  The water in the fountains leading up to the entrance was disgusting (dirty, brown, really gross).  Clearly, the area has not been maintained at ALL for a while.  Every single escalator going OUT from Bally's to the strip along this walk way was out of order.  They had roped it off completely.  FI and I were floored at how bad it was.

I understand that Bally's was going to tear down this walk way and put up some shopping area leading into the casino.  I read that the project was put off until 2014.  Well, to me it looks like they just gave up on this area.   Does anyone know what is going on in this area?

I'm completely torn right now.  I like the location (and I will say, we walked through the casino and it looked fine and clean).  But I really thought it looked SO bad, especially in comparison to other casinos along the strip.  I'm toying with the idea of moving my family to the Flamingo.  (I'm paying for all of them to stay and I cannot afford that many rooms at the Bellagio).  The room block at Aria would be fine, but it is much further away.  Augh!  I'm so torn!

I guess I just needed to vent!  But if anyone has any info on whether Bally's plans on cleaning up its entrance way, I'd love to hear it!  Thanks....

  • Hmm the fact that you said it was nice in 2010/2011 makes me wonder if they put some work into it at some point.  The last time I stayed there was in 2007 and the place was a real dump at that point; my room was dirty, had a used condom behind the dresser that I saw when looking for internet access, the room they moved me to was a dump, etc.

I'd recommend Flamingo over Ballys; might be a few dollars more but much nicer.

OK, that is SO freakin' gross!  I don't know, we must have been in a renovated room back in 2010 or 2011.  It was fine.  "Nice" may have been a stretch, but it was certainly clean.   I think some of the rooms were renovated in 2004 (still old by Vegas standards), where other rooms have not seen a renovation in 20 years!

I guess the reason I thought Bally's was a good idea was because it is so small.  My father has memory issues (gets confused easily) and although he is not traveling alone, I figured Bally's is small enough where he cannot get really lost.  You can basically see the room elevators from every point in the casino.  Is the Flamingo a maze?  I've never stayed there.   (Hell, I still get lost in Caesars and I don't have any memory issues!)

I stood there last Labor day weekend and it wasn't bad so the change must have happened more recently. I think Harrah's is pretty easy to find your way around. I was at Flamingo last month checking out the chapel since that's where our wedding will be and it seemed pretty easy to find our way around too!

  • I agree! One walk down their non moving sidewalk was all I needed.

  • Omg the escalators STILL aren't working? They weren't when we were there in Feb. as a matter of fact, it seemed all the escalators were broke down all over the strip lol! Only one side of the moving sidewalk was working smh. Flamingo was nice, we stayed there last trip. Easy to navigate. Try smartervegas for good deals. We stayed for 6 nights at around $40/night.
  • Bally's has been a mess since I could remember and I have never seen those 'moving' sidewalks move once in all my visits there! I would definately do Flamingo instead.

Thank you to everyone for your input.  I am going to look into the Flamingo.  Plus, from what I understand, the Flamingo has a better pool!

I've been there a couple times in the past few years. Never stayed there, just wandered into the casino. I don't think the moving sidewalks and escalators have ever been working 100%. Something is always broken. Last time we were there, we had to get back to the strip using a different exit because nothing at the main exit was functional and they had it closed off. and like you said: cigarette butts everywhere and dirty fountains. There was trash everywhere  - like empty soda cups and food wrappers.
and those trips weren't too long ago...2011/2012 was when I was most recently there. I'd definately move everyone to Flamingo if you can. Check around for coupon codes; we have been emailed some in the past few months that gave us a really good discount.

Thank you!  This was exactly my concern - - the convenience of Bally's diminishes greatly once you lose the exit directly to the Strip.  In addition, I have an Aunt coming who had knee replacement surgery so a lot of walking is not ideal - - which is exactly what she would have to do with every single escalator and moving sidewalk out of order!  I'm really disappointed with this.  I like the small size of casino for my father, but I think I want to move them!
