I went to my first dress fitting this past weekend because I bought my dress in Brooklyn (I live in DC) and was up in NYC for FI's cousin's wedding.
I was a little disappointed because they had ordered the dress I bought 2 sizes too big so they could cut out the corset back and put in buttons. I guess it's just ever so snug, so I'm a bit worried. I had been trying to gain weight, but I guess I'll clearly stop that now! Neither here nor there.
The main thing is that I'm 5'7/5'8 and I had purchased 2.5in shoes for comfort reasons, but after finding out how much money it costs to hem the dress, I feel like I should just ball out with heels. My FI is only 6'0/6'1, though, so I feel a bit limited - he'll be upset if I'm taller than he is. The alterations woman was a bit rushed so I didn't get an exact heel amount, but given the shoes I bought, I'm thinking the shoes need to be at least 4.5 inches.
Is this a sucky plan or should I shell out the $$$$ for hemming alterations?
If it is not a sucky plan, can anyone make any suggestions for shoes that have tall heels but perhaps platforms that bring things to a more reasonable (and comfortable) place?
Thanks!
