Grooms step father

What is the role of the grooms step father and should he wear a tux if he is not in the wedding? My Fiances father will be in a tux but not sure what his step father is to do or wear...any ideas. I was thinking he could be an usher but I don't know if that is appropriate.

Re: Grooms step father

  • It doesn't matter what he wears, but some men will prefer to wear matching tuxes because it means they don't have to worry about what to wear.  My dad was like this- he thought just renting the same tux the groomsmen were wearing was easier than digging out his suit and finding a matching tie and polishing his shoes and whatever.  So maybe just ask him what he'd prefer.  It'll look fine in pictures either way, though.

My FIL wore an jacket in a unique shade of blue with a purple tie to our wedding. . . . My dad wore a black suit, DH and Groomsmen in gray suits. . . . . the pictures came out just fine.  As long as everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing I'm sure they'll look great!
  • Maybe have your FI ask his sted dad whether he wants to coordinate or not, if you're really concerned, but I don't think it's necessary at all.
