White dress to engagement party?

Would it be ok to wear a white dress to my engagement party? (to sorta symbolize that I am the "bride to be")

It wouldn't be a white ball gown or anything like that just a white sundress / cocktail type dress.. or a mostly white with a summery print maybe.

I don't in any way plan to look like a "bride" (no veil or anything hahaha) just thought it might be nice - especially as its now summer.

Most brides to be tend to wear white to pre wedding parties. As long as you are dressed to the nines and in a cathedral lenth veil, i am sure nobody is going to side eye you for wearing white.

I don't really wear "short" dresses and my style is definitely more vintage, classic when it comes to dresses. It will be an evening party at a local restaurant. My parents are hosting.

I was going to say "Sure! Sounds great!"...until I looked at your dress that you linked. That's a wedding dress...don't try to pawn it off as anything other than that. A white summer dress with a print as you stated would be fine. What you linked is not.

White is totally fine. I think that dress is a little princessy for an engagement party though... I couldn't see someone wearing that to a cocktail party, but something a little more toned down would be fine.

Ditto PPs. I was all on board with a little white dress until I saw what you linked. That's a wedding dress, clearly, not a party dress. There are a bazillion white sundresses out right now, go find one of those.

I agree. The dress your choosing seems to be a short wedding dress, not just a summer dress that happens to be white.

I personally roll my eyes at people who wear white to their pre-wedding parties, like they need the attention and a visual reminder for everyone else that they are the bride. Just my opinion. Your dress you've linked looks like a wedding dress and I wouldn't honestly roll my eyes. Hard.

I was all for saying "yeah, where a white dress" until I saw the dress you linked to. That looks like a short wedding dress. How formal and dressy is your engagement party? I am all ok with a white sundress (which that is not), heck I have one myself to wear during the summer, but you need to make sure that the white dress you picked isn't too dressy.

I would sway away from organza or satin or any other formal fabric and go more towards a cotton style sun-dress.

Bottom line, if the party is in a more casual location, that dress will look silly. If it's in a venue formal enough to suit the dress, your party will get mistaken for a wedding. I agree that you should choose something else, preferably from a department store and not a knockoff site.

That is a wedding dress, and probably will be way too formal for your party. Wear a cotton sundress. If you want to go full-skirted for a vintage vibe, I would do it in a different color so that it is not mistaken for a short wedding dress

I totally got the "knockoff" vibe from their website. OP: white is okay, but he dress you linked is trying too hard to be a wedding dress (in addition to being a knockoff). Keep looking.... Ann Taylor, Black House White Market, etc.

White is fine...but that's a short wedding dress.

White House Black Market is a great store for nice dresses for parties, etc...and I can pretty much guarantee if you wear something from there you will look nice but no one will think that you are trying to be too "bridal".

I thought it might be a bit too "fancy" but its at a local italian place that is known to be pretty fancy - like jacket and dress up fancy.

I do like some of the dresses you guys picked - and I wasn't necessarily going to order off that site just that was the style I had been considering

To ME that dress isn't nearly fancy enough to be a wedding dress unless I guess you are going to do a beach wedding or something super causal but ... I guess if you ARE doing something more casual it could be fine.

I think I'll go more for something like you guys suggested - and will stay away from super fancy - thanks!

This is why I asked before I went and bought something haha

As PP's said, that dress you linked is a wedding dress.

The dress is also $230, not really worth it for the party in my opinion. I suggest going to one of the many women's clothing stores - most have their summer line out with tons of beautiful cocktail dresses or sundresses which may come in white.

You can wear any color you want, but I don't think it's necessary to wear white just to "symbolize that you're the bride to be." People know. And the 2nd dress is much better. That first one is a little ridiculous for an engagement party.

The human body is more prone to hunger in cooler temperatures, and corporations are hoping to subliminally push you into impulse buying more food.
