Escort Card Etiquette

Hi ladies,
I'm submitting my list of guest names for my calligrapher to do the escort cards, but I wanted to get your opinion on how the names should be written.

Is it okay for them to just have the person's name: John Smith, or should it say Mr. John Smith?

My wedding isn't black tie, but it is on the formal side (full cocktail hour, premium open bar, plated dinner, etc).

Which way do you think is more appropriate?

Thanks!

Re: Escort Card Etiquette

  • I would include their title and full name on the escort card, unless of course you are using one escort card for a married couple and then it would be Mr. and Mrs. John Smith.

  • It's not wrong to just do John Smith, but since your event sounds pretty formal I think Mr/Mrs would be more appropriate.
  • You can technically do either, but as you said your event is tending to the more formal style, I'd go ahead and include the Mr/Mrs.
  • Did you mean placecards?

We're doing placecards (which I am calligraphing myself) and I'm doing these:

    Mr. John Smith

    Rev. Christina Jones

    Hon. Frederick Williams

    Dr. Beverley Wang

    Master Carl Franklin

    Miss Susan Franklin

(last two are for a little boy and a little girl, in case you were not familiar)

(as you see, I'm spelling out names, and abreviating titles)
