Brunch Menu: Sit Down or Buffet

Re: Brunch Menu: Sit Down or Buffet

  • @allispain I love the salad idea! I didn't even think of salad bc of the breakfast items! You rock :)
  • I don't like quiche but everyone i know does. I love the rest of your menu, but I know a lot of people who wouldn't up these New England parts....so I def. suggest buffet.

My reception is a brunch buffet and we are doing mimosas and bloody marys with it

I think you need more vegetarian options.  Maybe a mixed veggie frittata on the buffet?  Do you have any vegans?

ETA: Also, I like the idea of having something plated when guests sit down and then the main course as a buffet.
  • You all are amazing! And there aren't any vegans that I know of, but with it being before Christmas I Will surely add something's for my friends and family who may decide to do a detox for the holiday!
  • Also for the buffet line the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles are build it yourself items so one can get grits and waffles without the meat. I guess I'm so used to saying them together, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I went to a wedding expo and someone gave me some really good ideas about incorporating our story into the food stations to help ppl know why we picked it and ways to eat the southern favorites!

We're doing a brunch buffet for our wedding.  Ours includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, french toast, a vegetable, a pasta dish, a chicken dish, a salad station, an omelette station, a carving station, fresh fruit, and pastries.

I really like your idea of having something little at the table for guests to snack on - especially because we're going to seat all our guests and then have the ceremony in the center of the room...  Since it's a second wedding and not super-formal, we decided it would be nice for everyone to get some coffee and sit comfortably at their own table before the ceremony...

    Take care,

    Kim

  • Okay...first time at this...so here it goes:

I LOVE brunch food. But I'm not sure about the menu. My "cocktail hour"...which I am looking to rename is all set and I am still going to have a cake (filled with fresh bananas and strawberries and whip cream). And It will be a beautiful winter wedding in new england, My family is southern so I wanted to tie that in...so here are my thoughts:

Not sure if it should be plated options that come with hash brown casserole (onions and cheese) and asparagus or just allow everything to be buffet style:

    Shrimp and Grits
    Chicken and Waffles
Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche and Honey Glazed Ham

What would you prefer? Are all those options too much on the brunch line and should it be plated? Also, any other brunch reception decor I would LOVE...I hate flowers btw so plants or food centerpieces would be awesome.  Thoughts?
I'd have buffet.  None of those "main" entrees appeals to me.  The only thing I'd probably eat is the chicken and waffles.  But not together.  I also hate asparagus and I know it's not the most popular vegetable.  Maybe green beans instead?
  • Second green beans. Does anyone not like green beans? Aliens, maybe.  Some sort of glazed carrot could be nice, although carrots covered in butter won't necessarily appeal to the "get skinny so I can eat my brains out over the holidays" crowd :)
  • @Kryan32! Best of luck it sounds amazing! @joane2012 one day get a piece of fried chicken, a Belgium waffle and put syrup over the whole thing, it will change your life! I promise and ur right, I love asparagus but I love all veggies so maybe ill look into greens :) and @lmc0322 lol @ butter, but lets be honest, look at my menu, I truly am hoping ppl gain 3-5 pounds, that means the event was a hit lol so bring on the butter!
  • Lurker here...chicken and waffles are amazing, so is the rest of your menu! Sounds like if you add some light fruit and veggies you will have the best buffet ever in my opinion!
  • Sounds good! I'd just do the buffet with all of the meats separate, and keep the quiche vegetarian (that may just be my selfish stomach talking, I love quiche!). Some lighter additions are a good idea, and I doubt they would add much to your bottom line. Yum!

I'm a lifelong MA resident and though some of the options may not be common around here, with my crowd at least I think they'd go over well. The light options are a good idea just because I always feel like a quarter of my friends are dieting at any given time...
  • brunch sounds great for those options! For your "cocktail hour" I would do like a mimosa bar and have snack foods like fruits, veggies, small pastries;the yogurt bar would work too and then buffet with the main dishes.

  • Am I the only who would prefer a sit-down?

I think it depends on how many guests you are having that should dictate whether you have a buffet or not cuz honestly if you're having like 200 guests or something, people will get cranky and will have to wait on a line for a long time. If your wedding is relatively small, I think buffet is fine, although it's not MY preference.

I also think you should have more of a variety of things on your menu b/c even though your parents are from the south, some people might not be and you should really have things that will appeal to everyone.
