Hotel Discounts

Hi,

I was wondering what kind of discounts the hotel gives for group bookings (10 to 30 rooms). Where did you stay? What was the discount like? Would you recommend it?

Thanks!!

Re: Hotel Discounts

  • Typically there is no discount.  In fact a group rate is often more expensive than what guests can book on their own, especially if coupon codes are involved.  What a group block does do for you is it guarantees that there will be rooms for your guests at a specific rate up until, typically, 30 days prior to your wedding day.

For example, we set up a group block (for free) at Mandalay, Luxor and Excalibur since they ranged in price by quite a bit but were all connected so guests wouldn't have to cab it or go outside.  The group blocks were a price range that was probably about 50% more than what you'd have to pay if you booked online AND used the 30% coupon code I had gotten from smartervegas.com.  However, the coupon code was only good up until about eight weeks from our wedding, so after that you'd have been stuck paying retail.  And after about five weeks to go, the hotel was sold out.  So, guests that waited until the last week of the group block, they were still able to pay to stay at Mandalay if they wanted to, while the general public couldn't, but they were paying a premium to do so.

There's no harm in setting up blocks at any number of places as long as they don't charge you to do so.

  • Thanks VG! They have some awesome discounts on there! That might be the way to go.

  • So, you know what was interesting? I went on smarter vegas and compared the sale/promo code prices vs regular prices on the mirage website and the regular prices came in $55 cheaper for the same nights as the 20% off promo code offered... Yep... I doubled checked to make sure I was in the right window and promo code.

I didn't think about setting up room blocks at Luxor and Excalibur too. Thanks VG!

It's kind of random, I think they do that to undermine the travel websites who also rely on the coupons, so there will be random ups and downs.  My guess is the goal is to just make people stop checking coupon and travel sites and then reel them in.

  • That makes sense. :) I know we booked Paris through their website and it was $10/ngt Less and they waived the resort fees. No travel site could match it.
