Favors that are not in any way lame

After a year and a half of insisting on no favors, I'm kind of coming around. I don't mind spending money, but I am against spending money on something people will leave behind or throw out. Have you ever gotten a favor that wasn't a complete waste? I've spent some time on the Google and really can't come up with something that would be universally liked by at least most people. All I could come up with was wine and we have a lot of non-drinkers so that's out.

  • Edible favors are never a complete waste.

  • Ditto Addie.  Food favors always go over well with me.  The only other one I likes was a mix CD of all the songs the couple named their tables after.  They are huge into music, played in the same band, etc.  It also helped that I like all the songs since we have the same taste in music.  Everything else got left on the table

  • Good plan. Would something like this work or would 2 chocolates look cheap (even though they really aren't)? Maybe I could get a local chocolatier to put something together that includes more chocolate for a similar price.

  • If they're in that little box, I'd be cool with that.  I don't expect favors to be huge things

  • What about a charity favor? I went to a wedding last year where instead of a favor, each place setting had a little card that said "A donation has been made to the American Cancer Society in honor of the bride's sister." Even if it was only a dollar per guest, I liked that better than them spending money on a personalized shot glass or more heart-shaped bubbles I'd end up leaving on the table.
  • Please don't do charity favors. It's not appropriate for your wedding. Those chocolates would be great, Andrea.

  • I agree with something edible too.  As we have unpacked we've uncovered a bunch of wedding favors that have gone unused and are sitting in packages like cookie cutters, measuring spoons, wine corks, coasters.  I did get from one couple, hot chocolate and tea that were personalized.  I loved that.

We did minicupcakes and people went bananas over them. Another wedding I went to have chocolate coveted macadamia nuts because the bride was Filipino. Basically you can't go wrong with chocolate.

  • I know it's been done to death but we're doing 4oz jams. My fiancé's gramma wanted to make them and its a fun way for us ladies to bond (we all can/jar in the summer and fall) so it seemed like a good fit for us.

I love Godiva and would love that!  If that is your budget range and you want a few more pieces of chocolate.....we did Ghiradelli chocolates.  They have 5 in a gift box for $5.25.  We did 9 for $6.50 and then found a 20% off discount code.  We had none left on the table.

  • Edible favors are always good - we're doing chocolates (5 per guest since they're small). I was at a wedding last year that had cupcakes from a local bakery in individual to-go boxes. We had 10 or so flavors to choose from - almost as good as going to the bakery ourselves... but free!

  • I was afraid to do chocolates at first because we already have 2 desserts, but it sounds like that's the way to go. People could always eat them later. Thanks!
  • Of course they can eat them later; they are INTENDED for later.

If I have chocolate in front of me, I must eat it right. now. True story.
  • Chocolate AND boobies?! Now that's a favor!

  • My edible favors never last past about 15 mins after I sit down.  I'm always so hungry at weddings.  I often eat DH's too, if he'll let me

  • The best favor I ever had were splits of champagne. For some reason many people didn't take them, so the B&G asked us to take some home (umm yeahhsssss!)

Food is always good. And whatever you get, if you and FI like it yourselves, you won't mind some leftovers :)

  • I always like edible favors. At our wedding we did small jars of locally produced honey, and we've gotten lots of compliments on it.
  • Tiny bottles of booze?

That would be the best favor ever. Otherwise, chocolate is good, I'll always eat that. I went to a wedding on a cruise ship, and their favors were cruise ship shaped luggage tags, and we have them on our luggage 4 years later.
LOL. This. Also, ditto everyone that suggested something edible. Finding spots for souvenir-like wedding favors is a huge pet peeve of mine because I hate clutter. I was against favors for a long time, and like may change my mind. I think we're going to do chocolates as well.
  • We're making homemade jam in a few flavours, so far we've done strawberry.

Honestly, you can't please everyone. We have friends who don't like chocolate (!) what can you do?

  • We're doing little scented soaps in the shape of a tiered wedding cake. The soaps are locally made and we're doing two scents; one male and one female.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • We are making hard tact candy & breaking it up into small pieces. Some call it sea glass candy. We are doing them in our two wedding colors & then putting them into favor boxes. My mom is also making her own strawberry peach sangria & bottling them with personalized labels for the tables. I think we are going to put 2 bottles at each table.

  • We're still debating about our favors and are leaning towards little bottles of good quality olive oil.
  • I pretty much never take favors, because most edible ones are chocolate and I'm one of the 1% of the human population that hates chocolate.  But that doesn't mean that my favor doesn't get taken by someone else!

I'm okay with having a favor where, if a few people don't like it, others will gladly take it off their hands. I realize I can't please every single person.

We're doing the CD favours, and are making our own packages to put them in. We've alerted our photographer about a shot for the label, so he's going to help us with that, and we're getting the labels professionally printed on instead of those sticky label things. Food always is a hit though! For my cousin's wedding last year, his Mom (my Aunt) made homemade canned salsa. OMG, it was so good!

You may want to reconsider.  I don't know anyone that listens to CDs anymore.  Probably most importantly is the fact that it's illegal due to copyright infringement.
