Hi and welcome! A lot of us took a break from TK yesterday which is probably why you didn't get any responses. The board isn't usually that dead.

Are you a bridesmaid in your friend's wedding?
    What's your favorite alcoholic beverage?

  • @jezziebeth -I hate spiders, bees, and being cold too. The other week I had a bee enter into my apartment somehow while I was at work. I opened the door and it was buzzing around in my room. I literally ran out the door in 0.2 seconds. It took me forever to get rid of it.

17 trips to Disney is a lot lol. What is your favorite Disney movie/character?

  • @jezziebeth - Welcome! What's your favorite dessert?

What are your favorite movies, and what's your opinion on 2D vs. 3D?
  • No worries about the board being dead! :)

@rdr716 - I am a bridesmaid for what really feels like the first time. I've been in two other weddings for high school friends, but the first bride didn't have anything like a bridal shower or bachelorette party so her bridesmaids were not really involved (it was her choice). The second "wedding" was a "shotgun" wedding that I was given two days notice for. That friend was six months pregnant and his family pressured them to get married in their front yard, so, you can just imagine how that was.

I'm excited to help with my best friend's wedding. I'm definitely learning how expensive everything is, which makes me glad that SO and I talked about waiting for a couple years for an engagement to give us time to get finances in order.

My usual go-to drink at our bar is a Malibu and Coke. I'm also a huge fan of margaritas. Probably too big of a fan!

@mhollister89 - Eeek, bees!  I would have had the same reaction. I make SO take care of anything that flies around into the apartment. We had a wasp fly into our apartment around Easter and SO told me to go outside while he chased and killed it. I kept whimpering and looking around the corner to watch and it was making him nervous, lol.

Disney is a thing that my mom and I both really enjoy; she turns into a big kid when we go and it's a lot of fun. Favorite character of all time will always be Minnie Mouse but as a kid, I was obsessed with 101 Datamations.  Would love to own one day!

I hope everyone has a good day!  One more day until Friday!
  • Also, random question - I've been trying to add a ticker to my signature for the message boards and the HTML code isn't working. Am I doing something wrong or is this a new forums issues?
  • KeptInStitches - My favorite desert is cheesecake! Preferably the red velvet cheesecake you can get at The Cheesecake Factory. I never want to know how many calories a slice it is.  It is heaven in your mouth.

My favorite movies of all time include When Harry Met Sally, Ghostbusters, RENT, Good Night and Good Luck, The Breakfast Club and 500 Days of Summer.  The only genre of movies I don't care for are slasher/gory films but I'll pretty much see anything.  I like 2D better than 3D.  I feel like since most theaters have great digitial projectors that the film's sound and look is already awesome. The 3D doesn't add much more to it for me.

@jezziebeth -- I knew weddings were pricey but it wasn't until I started contacting vendors that I was like OMG how does this stuff possibly cost this much money?! It's insane.

I too love margaritas :) On the rocks, with salt, please!

To add the ticker, go into your signature settings and click the icon to the right that is a white box with < > in red. Paste the ticker code and then click that icon again. You should see your ticker now. Make sure you save it and you should be good to go!

  • @jezziebeth welcome to our neck of the woods! What is your favorite thing to cook? Any cooking disasters lately?

  • @rdr716 - Thank you for the ticker help! I found where to edit the signature. TK doesn't make that the easiest thing to find.

buddysmom80  - My favorite thing to cook is pasta, and I've gotten pretty good at lasagna from scratch!  I'm working through a cookbook called How to Boil Water which has been super helpful.

My one cooking disaster has actually been with baking! I was making peanut butter fudge at Christmas time. I needed help getting the marshmallow cream in with the peanut butter chips so I asked for SO to help.  In the middle of the stirring, I left the oven burner on and placed the oven mitt down on it. It caught on fire. SO throws the oven mitt into the sink to put it out.  It survived, and thankfully the fudge still turned out, lol.

laurenb09 - I work with high schools to encourage students to explore career and postsecondary goals. I'm in a state where postsecondary rates are very low so I work with pairing mentors from businesses/organizations to work with students based on what they're interested in.

I'm glad I'm in good company with margaritas and Mexican! A girlfriend of mine got one of those Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville blenders as a wedding gift, so this weekend she and her husband held a cookout and tried it out.  We managed to go through two bottles of tequila that afternoon between four people. ;)  That thing is pretty awesome!
  • @laurenb09 - You are absolutely right! I have a lot of students who think that about bio majors, too. I've worked with our two major universities to pair students up with them so they can learn more about the variety of fields. I also have students who think that a lawyer walks into a courtroom on their first day, so they're always surprised by how much work they actually have to do to prepare for a case, lol.

Thank you everyone for being so friendly! :)
  • @jezziebeth - You and I will be friends. I also love Ghostbusters and find most 3D to be unnecessary. I like the way Pixar does 3D, but usually I can't go to 3D movies because they mess up my eyes.

Seen anything good lately? Looking forward to anything this summer?
  • @KeptinStitches - Hooray for a fellow love of Ghostbusters! :)  I agree with you on Pixar and how they do their 3D. But most 3D is just unnecessary.

The last movie I watched was the new Star Trek film. The SO is a Trekie, and hated it. I really enjoyed Chris Pine, lol.  The movie was entertaining and action packed, but apparently that's not true Star Trek, according to him.  I also enjoyed The Great Gatsby. I know a lot of fans of the book didn't care for it, but I always go in knowing the film adaptation is different from the book. Plus, it's Leo!

SO and I have a beach vacation planned in July, but mostly we're in for a laid back summer.

Question for all: What are your summer plans?
  • Also, any fans of Arrested Development? Anyone "blue" through the new episodes on Netflix?

@jezziebeth: Where's your vacation this summer? I don't have many plans for the summer. I can't really take off work since I was just out for 2.5 weeks but I'm thinking a few weekends down the shore at my parents' house will be in order.

  • No plans this summer. Makes me a sad panda.
  • rdr716   We are going to Myrtle Beach SC, for the first time. I'm more of a Florida beaches girl myself but a seven hour drive is better than 12+.  I also couldn't find cheap flights so maybe next year we'll fly!

That sounds awesome! You can visit your parents and catch some sunshine and waves at the same time. :)

  • @KeptinStitches:  That makes me a sad panda, too. :(

@jezziebeth: FUN! I've never been to Myrtle Beach before. You don't have to say if you prefer for it to stay private but where are you from? We used to be able to see people's location under their username but TK took that away.

  • @rdr716 - I am from West Virginia.  There is a joke that since SO and I have never been to Myrtle Beach that we're finally becoming "true West Virginians."  It's a popular destination for most people here. There or Tennessee.

I'm pretty excited about visiting someplace new. We're staying six miles from the ocean at a little hotel for $85 a night. It was just recently built and is an exit away from a Tanger Outlets, so it's a win-win!

I was just looking through your honeymoon pictures - HOW GORGEOUS! Looks like you had an amazing time!
  • Myrtle is fun, I went there a couple years ago. I do live closer to FL though so I prefer the Gulf over SC beaches. There is this cool boardwalk in Myrtle that we went to one night that had a lot of cool restaurants and shops. If I remember the name I'll let you know but it's pretty popular so you will probably see it when you're there.

@jezziebeth Welcome! I have an irrational fear of bees too. My BF and I were out running the other day and I heard one land on me. I completely flipped out right in the middle of a public sidewalk. BF was looking at me like I'm completely insane and said there was no bee but I still don't believe him...

My question :) What are typical activities/dates/fun things you and your SO engage in?

BF and I don't have many summer plans. We're supposed to close on our house on Monday so a lot of things are hinging on that. Pretty sure most of our summer will be spent doing lawn maintenance, painting, re-siding the house, and other general fixes. We aren't sure how much of a financial buffer we'll have after all of our closing costs are said and done although we did our best to plan for one. Hopefully once we are past the initial "major" expenses we'll be able to plan for some fun stuff and some short vacations.

@jezziebeth: Nice! That sounds like a blast!

  • mhollister89 - Thank you so much! If you have any food recommendations or things to do there, it would be appreciated! I'm glad you had fun there.

lmhollister - I have done that before with a bee! I don't care where I am, if it's around me, I freak out.

SO and I discovered that we like bike riding together.  He bikes everyday to work and around town, so last year I picked up a bike to join him. It's a lot of fun!  We recently got a gym membership together, so we're working to make sure we use that to get in better shape.  Tried kite flying the other day just for fun.  We're trying to move beyond the couch and TV, lol.

Congrats on closing on your house soon!
