Good Morning Knotties!

Good Morning all!

My on call went great, not a single call.  Woot woot for broken AC's.  Funny story: I woke up this morning, all on my own (no alarm!), thinking I had nothing to do today.  Came downstairs and saw my FSIL's graduation present sitting in the living room.  Duh, it's June 1st and today is her graduation party.  I literally yelled out "Shit", freaking out FI.  Now that I've realized what today is, I do have plans.  Graduation party at 4pm! We're both super proud of her and excited for her.  I'm excited to give her the gift too.  I decided to continue a tradition with her that my family has.  Graduating seniors leaving for college in the fall get a big plastic storage box full of all sorts of First Aid stuff and medications that you might otherwise forget to buy.  You know, all those things your parents just had lying around the house that you wouldn't think to take to college with you.  Lots of bandaids, a thermometer, a first aid kit, Tums, a shit ton of ibuprofen, stuff like that.  I really hope she likes it.  FI had no idea what to get her, so he went along with it.  I really like the idea of spreading my family tradition, afterall, she'll be my family in a few months.

What are y'all up to today?

Also, for whatever reason, we are currently watching the horrible Catwoman movie on tv.  We just got past the scene with all the cats.  At least one of them was meowing.  Our poor little kitty Blake could hear the meowing, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from.  He jumped up in front of the TV and paced back and forth trying to figure it out.  So adorable yet pathetic.  He's just precious.

Yes, he's laying in the litter box.  He's a little strange.

  • I also have a graduation party at 4pm! But it's for a college graduation; and if I know anything about this family then it will just be a huge bingefest on the water. Until then I have to work on IEPs for school and make sure everything is all set for the end of the year. So, by the time I show up to this party everyone will be blasted. At least it will be on the water!
  • From what I've heard, there's an afterparty tonight for the adults, complete with adult beverages.  Basically, the parents getting together to celebrate getting another kid out of the house.  For FI's parents, it's their last kid to graduate and soon they'll be empty nesters.  Apparently we're invited because we're adults.  I'm all for alcohol, especially if it's free.

  • Greetings and Salutations!

Not much going on here today. I woke up with a major headache, and when that happens, I'm likely to have it all day. There's a neighborhood garage sale going on, so I feel like I can't mow my grass, which annoys me. I try to mow every Friday and couldn't do it yesterday, so I guess I'm stuck waiting until tomorrow.

  • @RachelBFMD where are you still seeing post counts??  I really want to change my SN, but son't want to lose all the posts I've gathered

Writing another paper today, then it's a "Meet the New Baby" open house for my nephew.  A chance to see my niece and nephew and eat free cake, yes, I'm in.

I would mow anyway.  There's no way a garage sale should take precedence over mowing. You can only mow under certain weather conditions.  You can have a garage sale whenever. If you need to mow, mow.

  • I just took my first dose of steroids, but H and I had a "who feels worse" off to decide who went to get breakfast.  I won.  I really do feel worse though.
Feel better! Hope the steroids help.

  • @AddieL73, sorry about the headache! I wouldn't want to mow the lawn either. Maybe tonight when it's cooler will be a better time? I'm starting to self-induce a headache by forcing myself to do paperwork this morning. I don't know why I do this to myself!

I am not that creative @Peledreamsofrain.  I wish I was.  I could meow to myself all day.  Afterall, my ultimate goal in life is to become a crazy old cat lady.  It would work.

  • I just can't do it, Rachel. I am cursed by my extreme courteousness. It is actually probably for the best since I have this headache, anyway. But I was hoping that if it went away I could mow.

    Good morning!

It's not quite 11 AM yet here, but it's already over 90 degrees. That's probably going to be my "plan" through mid-week, more or less, since I don't return to work until then.

I'm spending my day in the pool with a cold glass of wine (we have to keep it classy!).

Holy moly, 90 degrees?!  And a pool?!  Lucky you!

I'm at work, it's 4pm here and I've got a few hours left of a 12 hour shift.  When I finish, I have an hour long drive home where I am going straight to FI's workmates house for a BBQ.  Hopefully won't stay too late though because I'm up at 5am tomorrow for work again, although tomorrow is Sunday and 7pm on a Sunday is my favorite time of week, because it means I'm finished work and not back 'til Friday!
  • It's 80 here already. I recently discovered we have a neighborhood pool, but I still have to sign up for a pass yet.

  • Good morning!
It's so hot here in Erie Pa! It rained all night so now it's just really muggy. It's awful. I don't feel like doing anything when it's this hot.
I've got to go meet the officiant today at 1. It's a 40 min drive from my house. Ugh. Then I've got to meet up with my bridesmaids mother, who offered to make all of our bouts and bouquets as long as I buy the supplies. I am all for it! I got most of the flowers already but I honestly have no desire to try and make the arrangements. I am not crafty by any means.
Then home to clean. I have ribs in the slow cooker, so we can have a good meal without having to turn on the oven today. Thinking of pairing it with some corn on the cob, and not sure what else yet.

  • @Sierra524 I like to make spicy rice with almost anything!  Fry off some cubed pancetta in a wok then add chopped onion, garlic, and chilli.  While that's frying, boil some rice.  When the rice is done, rinse it in cold water and add it to the pancetta mixture.  Chuck in some soy sauce and it's done!

Basically all my recipes start with pancetta, garlic and chilli.  I'm very predictable.

@smp87 whoops, sorry :P  I don't feel bad though becuase you're the one who's in a pool in 90 degree heat drinking chilled wine!  For the record, our high temperature today maxed out at 12 degrees.  We're scheduled to get 18 on Wednesday and Thursday, that's positively balmy!
  • @sdg2502 you will probably be shocked, but I've never had pancetta.

Aw I hope your headache gets better. Sorry your neighbors are keeping you from mowing. Hopefully you will get to do it tomorrow. Feel better!

    *shocked face*

I could live on pancetta alone!
  • Thanks, Rachel!  Maybe I was just tired and hungry. The headache is actually starting to feel a little better!

  • Jumping back in here- I love pancetta! I add little bits of it to seemingly everything: sauces, soups, salads, egg dishes, etc. love it.
  • Thanks for the tip @RachelBFMD  I think I lost some post counts though.  :(

Now all of you fabulous ladies stop posting for a few hours so I can go write my paper without procrastinating, okay??  ;)

  • Hello everyone.

Sorry about your headache Addie.  Hope it goes away soon.

Typical Saturday for me.  DH is at work (he works 6 days a week).  I worked a few hours this morning (I work from home).   It's cleaning and random laundry day.  Meaning this is the day I wash all the blankets, rugs, slipcovers, etc.

DH has a wedding tonight so he is not getting off until after 7pm.  The weather is crappy so no biking like I wanted.    I need to go shopping later.  Chef is on meds right now.  He will not take them without the pill pocket and we ran out.  Boo.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • @lyndausvi I'm supposed to change our curtains and other window treatments today.

I don't even know how to clean them! I have been lazy and lots of cat hair has made its way on to the curtains/drapes. Should I just toss them??
