Affordable floral/long table decoration ideas?

Hi All,

We will hvave 4 long tables at Mon Ami Gabi for our wedding dinner. The restaurant will provide white linen and some votives.
The tables will seat 14, 14, 12 and 10 people. I feel like I need to add some sort of decoration, but I don't want to spend a ton on floral arrangements.

First thought was to do several small cube-like vases with a few flowers in them, maybe three per table. Can anyone recommend a florist that won't break the bank?

Another option would be to rent linens, with a long runner, through MAG. Then I could just decorate the runner with more votives, or pay MAG to put more out.

I'm open to DIY but it needs to be easy to travel with... maybe some pictures? But then you've got frames on the table, one side of guests will see the picture, the other side will just see the back of a frame, unless I do them back to back or something?

Anyone here work with decorating long tables for their reception? Would love to see some suggestions/photos!

Thanks!

  • Talk to Pam at The Palette. She works withs all budgets. You give her a price and she can give you options. She is fabulous!

  • Maybe tiny, short vases with a few flowers in them? They can even be fake. I've seen it done with both. I have seen some where also the table number sits amongst the flowers or both sides of the vase.

I have been looking up inexpensive table centerpieces too :)
  • I second talking to Pam at the Palette! I am using her for my reception in the Stardust Suite. I just want a few arrangements for the guestbook table and bar and cake decor. I gave Pam my budget and out of all of the florist I contacted she came back with a quote that provides the most options and the most "bang for our buck".

  • I sent Pam an email! Will let you know what she suggests.

  • Good. I think you will be really happy with her.

  • If you want to do something with just candles, I've always liked this photo I have pinned from Save on Crafts (sorry it's so tiny!):

  • I recently found out about Save-on-crafts... Neat stuff!!

  • If you want to do pictures that guests on both sides of the tables can do try these:

I am going to do them at my home reception; 3 frames without their backs and a flameless LED candle (or similar) in the middle. If you waited until Vegas to stick the frames together they would be easier to travel with.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! You guys rock!

Thoughts on white table cloths... Worth the money/hassle to upgrade to black or another color? Of course the restaurant will charge me by the arm and leg but I could rent elsewhere for cheaper.

It's kind of dangerous that I have 10 months left because I keep spending more and more money every day in my head! I said to myself that I wouldn't spend money on flowers for the tables because I thought the restaurant would have enough ambience. But since they are long tables I feel like I need to have something on them. Still waiting to hear back from Pam. Maybe I can just do a few arrangements with her to keep it simple. It's just a dinner!

  • I think you should pick *either* flowers or linens. If you keep the table decor really simple and stick to candles etc, it would be a nice extra touch to do a colored linen. However, I think special table decor is enough visual interest without also having colored linens.

And to repeat your last line: It's just a dinner!
  • I think keep their tablecloths, do some candles and a few small flower arrangements. I've seen something like that and they used 3 small glass jars of baby breath which is really cheap and it looked clean, romantic and bridal.

  • Still waiting on Pam... Maybe she's on vacation!

  • I would give her a few days. I know that it is wedding season and I believe it is just her. Give her time.

  • Okay I heard back from Pam. She suggested a ton of stuff for my tables. Almost $700 worth. She did say that this is completely customizable and we could work on it if I had a budget. I can't imagine spending this much money on flowers for four tables, am I crazy? I really just thought I could get away with doing something simple for a couple hundred dollars. So my question is: is there a budget that's too small for Pam? If I tell her and I don't want to spend more than 300 bucks is she to come back and laugh at me? Thank you guys for the input!

  • Absolutely not. She told me she does all budgets even if its $100. Give her your budget, she will understand.

Definitely tell Pam your budget. I said like, "I want 2 bouquets, 3 corsages, 3 bouts for $250-350" and she came back with a package that was $311 and had all the flowers I wanted. Maybe without a budget she used more expensive flowers, but she can definitely adjust.
  • Thank you so much!
