Thoughts on stress over the big day... (not a question)

I married a wonderful guy almost two weeks ago, and now as I get back into normal post-wedding routine, I have a little time to think about how everything went.  I was not a bride who tried to control every little detail, but I did do my share of stressing over the menu, the parking situation, the music, etc. Anyway, once I got to the day I had such a great experience (although it really flies by!) and all the nerves and stress were gone. Now, thats not to say that some things didn't go quite as planned - it was 95 degrees during the outdoor ceremony (in June?!!), the grooms father fainted (he was fine after a glass of water), a fuse blew 1/2 through the first dance and cut off all lights/music... but the best part was that none of the little hiccups along the way mattered because my husband and I were together having a fun time with our nearest and dearest. So I guess I'm just saying, even if things go a little haywire at your wedding, dont worry, your guests will have fun and you will end up married - so relax and enjoy!

  • Thanks so much for this great perspective. :) Glad you had such a great experience on your weding day. It reminds me of something our BM told me when we were out to dinner the other night. He asked for an update on the wedding and I was telling that while I think we have all of our t's crossed and i's dotted, I was afraid I was forgetting something major - like the day of I would suddenly realize I hadn't arranged for food for guests or something. In response he joked that if something like that happened he would just run down to McDonalds and get a ton of food for everyone. He was joking, but for some reason that comment made me realize that even if something major does go wrong, we'll still be with the people that mean the most to us. Everything else will come together. If a problem does come up, we'll just deal with and move on.

  • I will echo wigs1's sentiments.

We had a few things that weren't what they should have been; but none of it made a damn bit of difference.  They (unlike the fuse/fainting situations) weren't anything that were known to anyone but H and I.

As much as we want everything to be perfect, everybody will have a little glitch here and there.  There are far too many moving parts to a wedding; but as long as you take it all in stride, have a good time and remember that at the end of the day you are married - the rest is gravy.

  • I can't speak for OP but I live in northwest Ohio and 90s in early June would be unusual. The average high here is about 75-80 around then. However, 90s is not unheard of (we've already hit it this year I think) which is why we're planning our out-door ceremony for mid May. It's kind of a crap shoot because it could be 55 or 85.
  • Stage-We had a week in end of May/early June that was in the mid-high 80s and one day that got to 93 degrees.  For my area, that is SUPER unusual.  I think we broke a record that one day.  I'm in northern Vermont, and it only tends to get that hot in July or early August.  Even then, it doesn't happen often.  The past two weeks it's been rainy and cold, with temps in the 50s and 60s.  Then again, the week before we had all that warm weather, we had snow.  We never know what to expect.  Right now it's sunny and a bit warmer.  I hope it stays that way :)
  • I live in PA - it was just a really weird couple of weeks for weather. The week before the wedding was in the 50ies/60ies with lots of rain, then suddenly the day before it shot up to 90 degrees and we had a heat wave for a few days. Usually upper 70ies is normal around here for May/early June.
  • Just out of curiosity, where do you live that 90 in June is unusual? Not being snotty, just genuinely curious. I always side eye outdoor weddings in summer down here because it starts hitting upper 80s in May.
I live in the bay area, June is about 65-75 here.  When I lived in Pittsburgh, PA, June would be in the mid 70s-80s, but July and August were ugly and hot.
  • I'm in an outdoor wedding tomorrow. The high is 89, 70% humidity, and there is a chance for isolated thunderstorms.

    Oh joy.

  • I'm not stressed. I'm just eating peanut butter mixed with sugar right now for funsies. It was easier than baking peanut butter cookies.
