Delicate vendor situation, advice needed!

I had posted last week about the tragic situation with our photographer......had fallen into a lake and his body was recovered earlier this week.

The studio that managed his business is so great, they are handling a replacement for us. Our wedding is Saturday the 29th though and we have not yet heard who will now be taking our photos. If possible, FI and I would like to be able to meet, or at the very least have a phone call with our new vendor....we need help finalizing our timeline, seeing if they want to stick to general times our original photographer gave us, etc. it would also just be nice to hopefully connect with this person before the wedding day.

I haven't heard from the studio since Wednesday. It was confirmed the body was his Thursday, and services are Sunday night and Monday. I know everyone at the studio is going through a difficult time, and I don't want to come off as a shallow bride only concerned about my pictures, but at the same time, it would be nice to know who are new vendor is. Should I give them a call today? Wait until Tuesday after everything is over? Thanks

That was my thought as well. My other issue is out final meal counts are due Tuesday, and I am not sure how many are coming.....with our former person it was 2 photographers and someone to man the tripod for the photo booth, not sure if that's changing, and also what they want to eat. I'm hoping the venue will let me put those meal choices in a day or 2 late.
  • I agree with PPs--I would wait until Tuesday and explain the situation to your venue.  So sorry you're dealing with this so close to your wedding, but I'm sure it will work out for you and that the company will work with you to make sure you meet your photographer.

I'm sure your venue will be accommodating as well.  Honestly, they're probably familiar with the situation--I know I heard about it myself and I don't even live in CT anymore.  It's terrible what happened, and his wife is pregnant too :(

    Best of luck with everything...

  • I also agree that I would wait until Tuesday and then explain what's been happening to the venue.

    All the best!

Thanks everyone! The studio called and we know who is taking over.
  • Am i the only one who thinks that it's kind of awful to feel it is appropriate to be more concerned that you have absolute validation of who your photographer is instead of being sensitive to the fact that  they are mourning the unexpected loss of a colleague/potential friend? Yes, of course your wedding is important but maybe having a little perspective wouldn't hurt

If you read my OP, I said I didn't want to come off as shallow and only concerned about my photos.  Also if you read the original post I started last week regarding the situation, the photos were the last thing on my mind when our photographer went missing and was eventually found.  However, seeing as how we paid around $6K for our photographer, we wanted to make sure that we had an opportunity to scope out who was taking our photos to make sure that we are getting someone of equal value and quality because that's a pretty good chunk of change.  The studio has been absolutely wonderful throughout this whole process, and has thanked me several times for being so understanding.  I didn't harass them about finding me a new vendor ASAP, and if you read the follow up, they called me yesterday so this post sort of became moot anyways.
  • @jennbelden : Did you even read the first thread that she wrote or, you know, any of this one? @SB1512 has been absolutely wonderful, understanding and empathetic about this entire situation. I think you need to work on your reading comprehension and maybe lurk moar.

  • wow apparently having a little different perspective does not go over well here
