Wittykitty, I've been dealing with my period being this bad since for about five years now. You're not alone. It's one of the main reasons that I take BC. It is supposed to help with my symptoms, but it really doesn't. Also I don't have a really heavy period either. So physically it's fine but I get these really awful symptoms.
You need to go to a different doctor and try a different birth control pill. There are MANY different kinds and work slightly differently. I had to switch around and try 4 or so over the course of a few years until I found one that worked with my body (I have PCOS and am required by my OBGYN to be on a birth control pill). Talk to your doctor--he/she will prescribe a different kind based on your symptoms. If he/she won't, then he/she is not very good.

ETA: For example, when I was on Beyaz for birth control, I had period symptoms similar to yours (although not quite as bad, but still very uncomfortable.) I switched to Ortho-Tricyclen and now they are MUCH lighter and I barely notice them.

  • So I have a cruise coming up in a couple of weeks and I don't want my period to come during that time (which is when it's scheduled.) I've read that drinking parsley tea and taking large amounts of vitamin C are known to bring on your period. I'm willing to try it. I've also heard that placing sprigs of parsley in your vagina will really do the trick. Seriously. I swear. I've read tons of women's posts who have tried it and swear by it. I'm a little weary of doing this because it seems that it might hurt (or possibly get lost...eeewww.) Anyone ever tried this method? Does it hurt? Anyone every lost the parsley? I know how crazy it sounds. But my period is usually pretty darn regular and I don't want to deal with it during the cruise. I've cross-posted this from The Nest.
I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you about a bad experience a friend in college had with Vitamin C. First off, large amounts will make you sick. Could actually put you in the hospital sick. It is also a "home remedy" for a at home abortion as large amounts will cause a miscarriage. Thus, the story. Friend got pregnant, and could not afford an abortion. She decided to take Vitamin C in large amounts for two weeks and ended up in the hospital for an three weeks! Please do not go this route!

These ideas you are posting to trigger your period are also ones that can cause a miscarriage and are used for at home abortions. They can all cause very painful, miscarriage-like symptoms such as bleeding and severe cramping as they cause your womb to forcibly expel anything contained.

Also, ladies, please refrain from any comments on my friends decision.

Why should anyone judge your friend? I've had an abortion, and it
is crazy expensive -- it was $625 for mine. No one should EVER be judged for having an abortion.

Why should anyone judge your friend? I've had an abortion, and it is crazy expensive -- it was $625 for mine. No one should EVER be judged for having an abortion. Exactly, it was her decision. I have not and will not ever judge someone for having an abortion. Some people can just be very vocal about their opinions on the subject.

Yes Stage, I understand that people get to have their opinions and may comment on it and that I can not dictate how they respond, but it is simply more of a suggestion/hope that they will keep this thread about the bride with the issue and not simply go down the rabbit hole into another conversation that many people feel strongly about. People can and will comment as they wish. I was simply giving mdupon some ideas on how this could affect her body.
  • Stage and Peledreamsofrain I know that things can't actually get lost in your vagina. No I did not skip sex ed. In fact I took college leveb Anatomy & Physiology. But things often of have to be retrieved. I'm not saying that thing can go up into your uterus. I have a friend whose boyfriends condom came off during intercourse and she was not able to get it out by herself. I also know a woman who actually had to have a tampon removed because the string came off.
  • I'm jumping on this bandwagon late, but I've got to echo what PPs have said regarding seeing a doctor. People in general seem to think that "natural" cures are are safe, but taking lots of anything can have a detrimental effect on your body. Heck, even water can kill you if you drink too much of it.

  • Like everyone else said, I definitely would not stick ANYTHING up my vagina.  That is a yeast infection waiting to happen.

Also, I have (or *had*) the same extreme symptoms during my period since I was 12 (now 29).  The vomiting, cramping so hard I laid there and cried, etc. etc.  I started taking fish oil pills because I read they would help me lose weight.  Needless to say, they didn't help with losing weight, BUT I did notice that my periods were getting more and more manageable and now after about six months of taking them, I will not stop taking them.  The pain from my period has almost disappeared and is also shorter and lighter.

    Hope this helps :)

  • If I'm wearing white jeans and don't have an emergency tampon in my purse, it's a guarantee I'll start.
