October 2013 Weddings

Things to finish

Last night I went through my binder of wedding crap. Receipts, ideas, vendor lists, etc. Added everything up so far (I am under budget!)

Anyway, I sat there trying to figure out what I all have left, here is my list:

Finalize tuxes (this will be done while we are on vacation in July)

Finalize FI's ring (also to be done week of vacation)

Finalize cake/pay

Finish paying photographer

Finish paying our bus

Meet with officiant (stepdad's cousin) and get his gift

Get the gift for our DJ (my mom's friend is doing it for nothing)

Get my stepdad's gift

Finalize things with ceremony and reception venues.

Get escort cards and cute cup cake liners (bakery said if we want something fancy we need to get them ourselves)

Find Ski Doo snowmobile toy thing for on top of FI's birthday cake.

First dress fitting is scheduled for August 5

I was actually surprised that it isn't much bigger than this. It is a relief too.

I think we have a lot more to do. Ugh! This is just off the top of my head:

    • Most vendors need to be fully paid. Most get paid on day of. We are up to date on all deposits and payment plans, but no vendor is fully paid and won't be until October.
    • Programs - can't do this until ceremony is fully final. It's getting there, but we still have some decisions to make
    • Escort cards - have materials, but can't do until all rsvps are in (invites are not out yet)
    • Invites are half addressed and 40% stuffed.
    • FI needs to get fitted for tux, as do all men, my father and ring bearers
    • Song choices finalized: first dance, mog dance, fob dance, etc. "To play" and "Don't play" lists
    • Table numbers - FI has started to make them
    • Candy bar - am I doing this or not? Buy candy, set it up
    • Dress fittings are scheduled, but haven't happened yet
    • Tasting - even though we have booked, we still get a tasting in the future!
    • Other various crafts - the 5 wine bottles with well wishes from pinterest, some decor, etc. Need to gather family's wedding photos from various family members.
    • FI's wedding band
    • Finalize cake design!
    • Wedding license
    • Favors: pre ordered on etsy, but need to give final count and I will need to do some assembly as well.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Nothing too bad, but still a lot to do!

I am so glad all of our vendors have to be paid at least two weeks before. Our Ceremony site is 100% paid for. I did it in two installments, deposit and with tax returns. The only thing we will have to pay for the day of is the bar tab and tipping people.

Look on Ebay for feathers, I got mine on there for pretty cheap. With regards to t-lights, as much as I hate wal-mart, thats where I got them for the cheapest price.

You're all making my stomach hurt because I am no where NEAR done.

Waiting for dress so I can do alterations
Play around with the veil mom is making to make it 'purty'
    Order shoes
Decide WHAT we're doing for a cake
Guys are going sometime in September for Tuxes
He needs to select and order his ring (I should probably take my wedding band in to have it up-sized)
Figure out the officiant (this is SO up in the air due to LOTS of things)
Pay for chair rental/gas light sponsorship at the chapel
    Favors
    Order Wedding party gifts
    Select flowers for bouquets/boutonnieres
Go to the hairstylist one more time to make sure I still like her before booking her
    Order and DO invites *sobs*

I know it's all little stuff (excluding the invites, and we're running out of time, which makes my panic WORSE), and I'll get it all done.  I just hate seeing it in list form.

At least the chapel and reception venue are booked and paid for.  That's all that matters.  The rest is just gravy on top of the wedding cake.  How's THAT for a gross mental image?  :)

  • @stina51286 Thanks for the tip.  I have found a few wholesalers, too, and I just need to determine exactly how many feathers I need.  I want to get a couple white ones, too.  Maybe tealights will go on sale being close to Halloween?

@shaylagirl, it's okay.... I'm in the same boat as you.

    Dress fittings aren't even scheduled.
Invites need to be finished, but we're still missing some updated addresses.
I have no idea if FH has told the guys what to wear. I think we've decided on it?
I think my BM has her dress, my MOH doesn't yet. (She said she's actively looking but can't find anything she likes. I am NOT going to stress about this. I told them "short-ish grey dresses". That's it.)
    Centerpieces need to be finished.
    My bouquet STILL isn't 100%.
Bouts, not even close, and the one mockup I have done, I now hate.
Vendor payments still need to be made.
I need to get liability insurance for the reception venue still, but that can wait until September and I'll get that through the place I have my renter's & auto insurance...
Honeymoon payments need to be made.
Need to decide if we're even doing favors.
Need to figure out what we're doing for the welcome bags.
Need to figure out what jewelry I'll wear day of.
Design & order Converse for us.
Purchase Converse for the WP. (which also means I need to get their shoe sizes)
    Programs.
Sign for the guest book. (We have a canvas we just want them to sign their names, and then we'll have a pile of postcard size nice paper for them to write anything more if they want)
    Finalize the reception menu.
I don't think the rehearsal dinner reservation has been made.
I don't have a salon to get my hair and make up done, which also means I don't have an appointment for a hair/makeup trial.
The pastor wants to meet with us.
    Send out the freaking invitations.
Get the paperwork from Mom to prove I've had the rubella vaccine, as well as my birth cert.
    Get his birth cert.
Get the marriage license... which, fortunately, we can wait until the day before to get it we want.
Figure out do not play/play lists for the DJ...

I will not panic yet. I will not panic yet. I will not panic yet.

Oh yea. And I'll be moving in August. Which also means I have to do all that stuff and.... well... yea.
  • Oh. I completely forgot about the card box. That still needs to be finished....

  • Hmmm...I haven't actually sat down to make a list of what I have left. I guess that would be smart :) BUT I keep telling myself I have the big stuff done - so if some of the other stuff doesn't happen - I'll be ok....Right?

  • I thought I was in pretty good shape but after reading what everyone else still has left, it reminded me of things I completely forgot.

    - Have to finish paying all vendors (most are due the day of but we still have 2 more payments on the venue, one next week!)

    - Finish card box

    - About half of the invitations are addressed, just have to figure out work people (they will be stuffed the end of July to be mailed, a couple of my BM are helping)

    - Dress fitting 7/24, still have to get all my accessories for that like shoes and what I am wearing underneath

    - Marriage license (will probably get that in August, CT you can get it 60 days out)

    - Place cards are done, they just have to be filled out once I get the RSVP's back

    - FI wedding band

    - Book hotel for wedding night

    - Book rental car for honeymoon

    - Find out if my dad is renting a tux or not, everyone else already has their tux done except for my ring bearer who has to get measured a month before

    - Waiting for the flower girl dresses to come in so that I can take them to my seamstress so that she can add a blue ribbon onto it

    - Finish getting all the pieces for my centerpieces: tree slices, LED candles, votive holders, berries and pumpkins (have to get those the week off so they don't rot)

I am sure there is so much more that I have to do but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

  • @jaenella our bakery told us to plan on 1 regular size cupcakes per guest. We're also doing mini's, and they suggested something like 1.5 per guest on those. So currently we have 150 regular size and 200 mini cupcakes on order. (The numbers will adjust once we give them the final head count 2 weeks prior.)
  • Thanks @lplions! We are doing our cake cutting later (9:30 or 10 pm) so were wondering if that would affect numbers (less because people would have left? More in case people get hungry after dancing?) but 1 per person sounds like a solid rule to follow no matter what. Plus, if there's leftovers, more cake for me!
