From my bridesmaids accessories post I noticed at least two other ladies are having dark purple dresses for their lady attendants which made me curious about colors and how you picked them.... I settled on orange (bright) and dark purple. I had started with something completely different (pink and brown with green accents) but decided I wanted to use pumpkins (not sure if I am even doing that now) and purple seemed to be the color my BMs preferred as a dress. How about everyone else? Ps - anyone know how to do a hard return on the iPad? :/

Re: Colors!

  • I had a picture that I used as inspiration, and when I started looking at other weddings with similar wedding colors, I liked it.

I am doing Blue / Purple / Gold.  The Bridesmaids and groomsmen are wearing blue, I'm wearing Gold, and I think I may have the little ones in purple (Flower girl?).
  • My bridesmaids and main colour is navy blue, paired with flowers and decorations in fall colours (yellow/orange/red) - mostly sunflowers for the flowers.
  • we are using fuchsia and Jalapeno orange (bright) No Idea whereeeee the colors came from but it is super bright and cheerful. <3 it :)

  • I'm doing ivory, dark grey, deep red and chocolate brown. It came from looking at paper samples at my invite place - she had me pull out all of the colors I liked then we slowly eliminated them for different reasons and that was the palette that was left and I loved it! I originally was going to do all fall colors, but that changed as soon as I saw these all together.

  • We didn't want to have a "seasonal" wedding, so we went with ivory, grey & teal. (and no pumpkins for us)
  • We are doing navy and silver, no pumpkins here either even though I think they are great! I had a really hard time choosing colors, Pinterest and wedding magazines had so many good ideas! But navy is both our favorite colors so we went with that.

  • The color is TIffany blue - and we all just liked it. It's one of my favorite colors and it looked really good on each girl. I then planned everything else around that color choice. (Not all matching 100%, but pairs well with it)

  • I picked my colors early on- ivory, eggplant and peacock blue- because I love them!  No seasonal decor here.  We're bringing a little Mardi Gras to central NY, and purple is one of the central MG colors.  Flowers are ivory and the blue will be small accents at the reception.
  • I'm navy blue with fushia, orange, and golden yellow. Basically all of my main decor is navy blue, and then accented by all of the colors.
  • I have very much embraced the fall color scheme.  Partially because my venue's carpet is outrageous, and the fall colors blend with it better than any other colors, and also because I found a bouquet that I fell in love with that had all of the fall colors in it that I am basing my entire wedding off of.
  • We are gray and yellow with the girls in gray.  I originally wanted gray and pink, but didn't my colors to be so close to my sisters who was black and pink, so I changed to yellow and love it so much better :)

  • Navy, white and coral.  I originally planned for a beach wedding, with corals and turqouise, but we wound up on a boat/yacht.  The carpets are the strongest influence in the room, navy, so I decided to work with it.  I think the navy is much more sophisticated than the original turquoise.
  • @Hardlyhannah those are my colors too except the brown for us where doing black. I originally had brown but my fiance wanted black. I'm doing a ivory and black cake, red and ivory bridesmaid dresses, back pants, vests, and either a red or grey tie for the guys, red and white gerbera daisies, white pumkins, red, grey, and ivory floating candles in vases filled with water for the centerpieces, a big black rustic chandelier hung up in the tent, ivory linens, and thinking about incorporating some red lace.......... (How are you incorporated them in to your wedding?
So I can kiss you anytime I want.
  • We are going with Black, white and Red. Girls are in black dresses with red shoes and red flowers. Was really trying to make it so that my girls could wear their dresses again.  Who can't re-use a little black dress? LOL I only have a MOH and a BM so they are both in different styles of dress one is long and one is short.

These are the colors of our bedroom so they are definitely favorites of ours.

  • We choose Cobalt/Royal Blue and Hunter Green.  Each of these are our favorite colors.  Also, my family is part of the Campbell clan, and one of our tartan colors is the blue with green.  My brother is marrying us in his full dress kilt.  I picked yellow, orange and red for our flower colors as a nod to the season.  Ladies are in black dresses with the guys in blue vests and ties with black slacks.

  • We're just generally doing fall. So far, the women in the party have chosen red, copper, green and purple dresses.

  • THe colors have been the hardest thing for me. Honestly, I just say my colors are fall colors. I had originally chosen a crimson color bridesmaid dress but changed my mind to what they call Lapis which is the darkest purple you can get. I am then tying in dark reds, bright oranges, and touches of green. I am totally embracing the fall colors and we will have leaves and pumpkins everywhere! We love the season!

@rustytammy how close are you to the Scottish heritage? Just out of curiosity. We share a family tartan, but I won't be including it in our wedding since we're not very... Scottish.

ETA: That's awesome, though, that your brother is going to full on kilt for your big day.

My girls are wearing dark grey dresses and carrying dark red flowers, our venue has exposed red brick walls, our cake will have grey ribbon on each tier with red flowers accenting the tiers, the guys are wearing black tuxes with grey vests and red ties, me and FI will be in ivory (he will have a black tux with ivory vest), our centerpieces are all candles except for a little bud vase which will have red ribbon on it. Our napkins on the tables will also be either deep red, brown or grey.

  • We are doing black and white, cheesy maybe but the dairy is our life so I've added small accents with cow print nothing to crazy.
  • We are not really set on colors, but I am having a hard time with something. I think I found a dress, but I don't know if it will "go" with the tuxes FI has selected. He likes dark gray tuxes with navy vests and ties. The dress is champagne colored primarily. I feel like these colors will clash. He said he will change the tuxes to black so that I can get the dress I want, but I don't want him to compromise what he initially selected.

What do you guys think? Will the champagne dress look off with grey/navy? Should I ask him to switch to black? Should I just say who cares if it does clash, just get what we both want?

    Any feedback is appreciated!

  • All of those colors are pretty neutral, so.... I'd say go with what you want. But, if you think they'll clash and you'd be unhappy, don't listen to internet strangers, go with your gut.
  • @lplions ~ I've been into our heritage for some time.  My brother has just in the last 3-4 years gotten on board.  I dragged him to one of the Scottish Games in the Bay and he was hooked after that.  LOL  He's starting a lot more research after getting the genealogy from my mom.  One of her great- aunts did a chart and linked us to the Campbell clan.

I am excited to have him marry us.  Each of our family members have a role in the wedding.

  • @rustytammy that's awesome! I can't wait to see pictures. :)
  • Originally we wanted fall colors, but I found a bridesmaids dress I really liked that wouldn't look good in the fall tones. So we went for a deep purple and emerald green.
  • Doing Peacock Blue (Davids Bridal), Ivory/Champagne, and Black.  My girls are in the peacock blue bridesmaid dresses, guys will be black tuxes, and my dress is ivory.  I will have some peacock feather accents, using champagne painted wine bottles, regular wine bottles, candles, ribbon and tulle for center pieces, etc.
  • We have fully embraced the fall colors! We chose to get married in the fall because it is our favorite season and I love the colors together. Our outdoor venue overlooks mountains which will have beautiful fall foliage, perfect for pictures! Our colors are chocolate brown, burnt orange, and gold. BM's dresses are chocolate brown. Doing pumpkins with flowers in them for centerpieces.
  • My colors are eggplant and ivory.  I may add in some grey.  I had originally started off with Burgundy and champagne but the bridesmaid dress I wanted did not come in those colors.  In the end I love the color purple and I think it will look great with fall as the background.  We will have a more "fall" ceremony with pumpkins, cornstalks and haystacks but inside will just be a formal event.
