Friday Chatter

Morning ladies! I've been at work for an hour and a half now and we've done 0 trades. I predict this day will suck. Let's chat.

What do you have going on for the weekend? We're having company stay over tomorrow night so I will spend tonight suffocating in my hot apartment while I scrub it. I desperately need to clean my closet and put clothes away. It's been a disaster area since before my wedding. Tomorrow night I'm going out with some friends for my birthday (early). Sunday I want to go to the beach and then H has an early hockey game that I'll probably go to.

I know I mentioned this in the accountability thread yesterday but OMG I love my egg cooker. I think it's my favorite thing that we got from our registry. I need to start coming up with better ideas for my eggs, though, because I'll start getting bored with my egg "salad" (3 hard boiled eggs -- 2 with no yolk, 1 with yolk, 1 tbsp of dijon, 1 tsp of light mayo all mixed together in a bowl). I also have the option to soft and medium boil the eggs but I'm not sure what I'd do with those.

Re: Friday Chatter

  • Tonight our friend is hosting a game night.  She always makes yummy desserts and the night usually ends with Cards Against Humanity.  I'm looking forward to it.

The rest of the weekend will probably be exhausting and tiring.  We will be setting down the pavers on our patio.  Right now there are five pallets of pavers in our backyard. I believe the sand is being delivered today.  I can't wait until this project is over though honestly. It is an exhausting one.

So there are no other particular plans this weekend.  I wouldn't mind getting to the movies to see World War Z.  I don't think we wil have time.  Oh well.

    Anniversary

  • @laurenb09- I desperately need to do a goodwill run. I'm accumulating a huge pile of stuff that just needs to go.

I have a pretty busy weekend full of random things that just need to get done. Tonight FI and I are going to a housewarming party for one of my friends that just moved into the city. We probably won't stay long because he has an early tennis match tomorrow and I have my first hair trail in the morning. My hair stylist wants me to do an early hair trial in case I decide to change my mind on how I want my hair for the wedding so we shall see how it looks.

After my hair trial I'm getting lunch with some old girlfriends from high school and then I'm meeting up with @lmhollister and my mother for some pedis and shopping. All while this is happening FI and some of his groomsmen are picking out their tuxes and getting fitted. No plans for Saturday night yet.

Sunday we have church and then afterwards I have to drive to go drop off my old office chair to one of my friends who needs it for her new office. Then I desperately need to wash the floors in my car so we will do that Sunday afternoon. Then we will sleep for the rest of the day from exhaustion.
  • Hiya! Tomorrow I'm helping my sister move and going to a friend's place for a BBQ. I think that is all that is going on this weekend for me.

    Hey, is it 4pm yet?
  • @jenjenniferf

I really wish it was already 4pm.  I don't feel like being here or doing anything today.  I hope the day goes by fast...

    Anniversary

  • @laurenb09 - What are you going to do with your day off? I'm jealous of that and your dinner tonight. Have an extra marg for me!

@Peaseblossom55 - World War Z was really good!

@southerpeach89 - My hair on my wedding day was 100% different from my hair at my trial. Two trials sounds like a good plan. Take pics!

  • @swazzle I heard it was really good. we read the book in march while we were on vacation. May be we can sneak in some time for it next weekend.

    Anniversary

  • @swazzle- I'm taking my mother with me so she will definitely be taking some pictures. I hope I love it because it's always how I envisioned my hair looking on my wedding day but if it looks like shit then it's back to the drawing board.
  • I leave this afternoon for a seven-day trip to Atlanta for work. I'm having dinner w/ some college girlfriends tonight, working nine hours tomorrow, then having dinner with our HFFs (Honeymoon Friends Forever) tomorrow night. I work 11 hours Monday, 15.5 Tuesday and another 12.5 on Wednesday. Needless to say I'm going to be EXHAUSTED when I get home Thursday.

@swazzle - what is this egg cooker you speak of?

    @jenjenniferf - Is it the 21st yet?

  • Morning, all! I have a meeting this morning that was supposed to be yesterday afternoon, so today is already the suck and I haven't even made it into the office yet. The testing went very badly yesterday, I'm so goddamn glad it's the weekend especially considering I'm going to get to spend today polishing metal samples with 120 grit sandpaper. My world is odd sometimes.

This weekend? I'm going to be working on the Christmas presents. I'm so damn nervous I'm gonna run out of yarn on at least 1 of them before it's big enough; I made this gorram pattern before and it didn't eat yarn like this last time, so I think I got short skeins. Not fair. If I get done with at least 1-2 of those, I'm jumping into a brave new world and attempting my first sweater! It's a top-down, one-piece, no-seam raglan-style sweater with a nice loose fit. I have a boucle yarn that's black, green, blue, teal, and self-patterning. I'll be sure to AW that and other projects as I get them done, but my world's kind of a mess of unfinished objects right now.

Otherwise we'll be storm-dodging again all weekend. Not that I'm complaining, but couldn't the storms do me the favor of going through during the day? Overnight is overrated. Maybe I can get BF to go to Monsters University with me; we missed Star Trek: Into Darkness in theaters and I'd like to get to 1 movie this summer.
  • @cu97tiger- Have fun in ATL even though you will be working a lot. Have you been before? If you're staying in the city, check out Anis Bistro in Buckhead. If you like French food, they have some amazing dishes.
  • Today i'm running some errands to exchange a couple wedding gifts and use up some gift cards we got. Then i'm heading home to clean the garage. DH and I purchased bicycles last night and I have tons of wedding stuff in the garage. I need to reorganize everything, see what I want to keep and what I want to sell and then install hooks for the bikes. Should be a productive day.

It's supposed to be a stormy weekend, so i'm planning to attack my house. I want to get the guest closet back into shape and get my piles of laundry done and hung. Then I really want to re-organize my kitchen and find places for some of the gifts we received. (I'm guessing there will be a goodwill run in here somewhere too.)

Sunday will be relaxing with DH. We'd really like to go test out our new bikes, but I don't know if the weather will cooperate. If not, maybe we'll go find a showing of Despicable Me 2. I loved the first one!

  • @laurenb09 - Don't forget Minnie snuggles.

@Peaseblossom55 - I heard it's very different from the book.

@southernpeach89 - I hope it turns out great! The way my hair ended up for my wedding was EXACTLY what I wanted. I just wasn't great at vocalizing that at my trial.

@cu97tiger - I got THIS one. It's fantastic. This morning I woke up, filled it with the appropriate amount of water (it comes with a cup), pierced the egg shells (pin on the bottom of the cup), and turned it on. 20 minutes later it automatically shut off, I ran the eggs under cool water, and came to work. They peeled SO easily and were perfectly cooked inside. I am in love.

I've been to Atlanta quite a bit, but not in several years. We're going to Pasta de Pulcinella tonight. I'm not sure where we're going tomorrow night. I'm staying down by the Georgia World Congress Center, so I'm a ways from Buckhead, but thanks for the suggestion!

  • @swazzle - I've seen yummy recipes for soft boiled eggs with asparagus, and with toast.  YUM.

I'm off at 1:30 today.  going to buy some shutters and a window frame I found on CL for a house project, and then picking out paint colors and doing some decorating stuff shopping with my friend who is helping me out.  hopefully it's fun and I don't get overwhelmed.  and I think we're eating at our favorite Mexican place.

tomorrow morning is the Farmer's Market, and then I'll probably clean the house and I don't know what else.

it's supposed to be cool next week (highs in the 80s instead of 100) so I plan to get a bunch of weeding done in the garden Sunday or Monday when the front moves in.  I have a ton of heirloom tomatoes that have green tomatoes on them, so I can't WAIT for them to ripen.  my Black Krim plant has two that are pink...  a few more days until they are dark purple and ready to snack on!!!!
  • @peaseblossom55 we were talking about putting in a patio in our back yard next year, but it sounds like a lot of work! I'm about to go with BF's original suggestion of building a deck the would be right up to the pool instead!

@swazzle I really want to get that egg cooker now! I have hard boiled eggs in my over before, but this looks a lot more fun to do! Do you like deviled eggs? you could make those for work. Or do a Cobb salad or chef's salad with boiled eggs?

@laurenb09 I need to de-clutter already so bad. The first rainy weekend I get here, I'm going to re-organize everything! I need to figure out how to re-configure my closet so that we can get some more closet space. That's the only thing I don't like about my house, the closets are small.

@southernpeach89 have fun at your hair trials! Anything in particular you want to do with your hair? And please take a ton of pictures to AW to us!

@jenjenniferf I wish it was 4pm! Today at work sucks already.....

This weekend is actually pretty busy for me! Tonight my friend is taking me out for a drink and some Mexican goodies tonight for my birthday.

Tomorrow BF and I are looking at an e-ring setting in the morning, then doing a little birthday retail therapy. After that we're meeting with another friend and her H and going to his job's company party. He works across the river from this: http://sailfestnl.org/ and the fireworks are awesome! Cannot wait to eat all the food and drink everything!

Sunday I'll probably do laundry, prep meals for the week and lay out by the pool.

  • @buddysmom80 this is probably the biggest task we've taken on with the house so far and probably will be. There is a lot to it and a lot of steps. I can't wait until it's all done it will look awesome though. We've done everything ourselves except when we hired the exacavators to  dig the area.

@swazzle you can definitely tell the book is quite different from the movie.  I'll be interested to see what changes they made and how the story gets told in the movie versus the book

I have no patience for my co workers today... really.

    Anniversary

  • @buddysmom80- I'm definitely wanting my hair either half up/half down or all down. The only thing that worries me about it being all down is it getting in my face so that's why I'm leaning more half up/half down. I might ask for some light curls or waves to give it some body.
  • @cu97tiger :) Nine more days!

I actually use a countdown on my calendar to let me know exactly how much time is left in the day everyday at work.

  • Is it bad I have no idea what we are doing this weekend?! Probably. Hmmm

I went to the doc today and got some Meds to keep my stomach somewhat at bay. Still kinda waiting to know what's wrong. Apparently it is normal for gastro issues to take forever to diagnose? Someone please confirm this. I'm starting to think its all in my head. Except its not. I've lost 11+ lbs since may. Not on purpose.

We got started on our centerpieces which is pretty exciting. I think our vision is going to work and will definitely share pics once we have a mock up. Also booked an officiant the other day, so wedding planning is happening (only 9 months to go!!)

It is raining cats and dogs outside. I think it's supposed to rain most of the weekend. Ugh.

Oh! And I'm meeting with an advisor today to discuss getting my masters/licensure in teaching so I can teach math someday. That's pretty exciting! I have a lot of questions about the whole process (it's a million times harder to get a teaching license in va than it is in fla).

Also I love my fi. He does a fantastic job of putting up with me AND can even talk me down during my anxiety induced insanity sometimes haha. This is shocking because I see absolutely no reason during these times. He's amazing and I can't wait to marry him (and hopefully I'll get this anxiety and medical stuff under control by then - the anxiety is mostly about the medical stuff, so they're kinda related)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @blue&white I'm sorry I hope you start to figure out these stomach issues soon and get it all under control.  Not knowing what is wrong medically is always so frustrating. Wow 9 months!!! Sunday will be 11 for us.  What kind of centerpieces are you thinking about? Pics?

Rose centerpieces come with my wedding venue package. I love the roses idea ( I get to pick the color too) but they look a bit on the sparse side so I'm trying to think of ways to upgrade that basic idea of the roses.

  • Tonight I'm going to have the house to myself as my fiancé leaves for his bachelor party in Ocean City, Md.
Saturday is a busy one, in the morning I am running in the Drenched5k and in the evening is my bachelorette party with the girls in DC!!
Sunday will be spent going over what we still need to buy/accomplish before the wedding! Fun fun

  • @peaseblossom55 I'm trying to do something similar to this:
Mason jar spray painted with Krylon's "Looking Glass" spray
    (pinterest)
We're using old/antique (almost) mason jars that have been in FI's family since the early 1900s and have been used for canning all sorts of goodies, so it's kinda an awesome way to connect the past with the present (FI's gparents DID say we're not allowed to return any of the mason jars when we're done, haha, they're trying to get rid of them).  I'm thinking of using red/silver as our colors so I'm mainly making a mockup to see if it works with red and not purple.  And we want to incorporate some tea lights for lighting/ambience somehow.  LED ones, though, we're not fans of fire/relighting them.

  • Morning ladies!  I was looking forward to this weekend until an hour ago.  FI's aunt has been battling cervical cancer for the last 10 years.  A few weeks ago she was told that this last bout with it wasn't responding to meds.   The family flew her back to OH so she could be surrounded by loved ones.  This morning we were told she most likely won't make it through the weekend.  Its so incredibly sad.  Right now we're just waiting for the call to come home.

My heart hurts for FI and his family.  I can't imagine the pain FMIL is going through.  She lost her husband to cancer two years ago, and now is losing her sister.  They all deserve a break from this. Cancer sucks.

I have lots of webinars to do today, so I'm working from home and trying to get laundry done to be prepared. My closet is scary to walk into right now because of it.  I would love for my laundry to magically do itself and pack for OH.

  • @suzie211 I'm so sorry to hear about FI' aunt, sending out prayers and thoughts to you.

@blue&white wow those center pieces are going to look amazing Are the mason jars already silver or are you painting them?

    Anniversary

  • @blue - I haven't had issues with that but would it be worth it to try seeing a different doctor? Maybe having someone else look at all of your symptoms and test results could be helpful. I hope you start feeling better soon.

@Jessica41381 - Have a blast at your BP!

@suzie211 - I'm so sorry to hear about your FI's aunt. Cancer DOES suck.

@suzie211 lots of prayers headed to your fi's family right now. Losing an aunt is so hard even when you know it's coming :/

@peaseblossom55 we spray painted with krylon looking glass spray paint. We also tried a silver from rustoleum but that didnt give the same look.

    Eta: forgot the 55 :)

  • @blue&white that is going to look so pretty.

I like the idea of something like this with blush and yellow roses, some tea lights too. I wouldn't get offended if some one though it was tacky. I love honest feed back.

  • @peaseblossom55 @swazzle @Blue & White   Thanks for the prayers.  I know FI's family can definitely use them.  She's an amazing woman and its really sad to know she won't be with us much longer.   She's battled so long and so hard that is extra frustrating to see it finally do her in.

My soapbox for today is get your annual!  Even though she's struggled with the disease for 10 years, she probably got quite a few more had she not gone in for her annual exam.   She had a brand new very young doc that had gotten a new piece of diagnostic equipment and wanted to try it out.   Her exam had looked normal, but he wanted to play with his new toy and asked if he could test it out on her.   They were both shocked when her test results came back at Stage 1 Cervical Cancer.   She had no symptoms and most women don't with Cervical Cancer until the later stages.  Even though it will be what kills her, finding it so early has given her so much more time with everyone than had they found it later.

  • @peaseblossom55 FI just went to a wedding (I was invited but had to cancel since I was sick) with similar centerpieces. Theirs were orange and lime green so a bit brighter than your vision. I like the flowers in em though.

My least favorite centerpieces are the ones so big you can't see the person you're talking with who's sitting across the table. So at least we are both avoiding those for the most part :)

  • Tonight is probably going to be movie night on the couch with R. The weather looks pretty sucky so my original plan of going to yappy hour to see my uncles band probably won't happen.

Tomorrow R has a bunch of stuff he is doing that I have zero interest in, I.e. golf - so I will probably spend the day lounging and cleaning my house.

Sunday will probably be a quiet day- maybe go hang out with R and snuggle on the couch being lazy. The weather is going to dampen my plans of going to the beach
