Re: Friday Chatter

  • @blue&white I want something small and to not get in the way of other guests seeing each other.  I thought about tall centerpieces but I'm not sure.

    Anniversary

  • @peaseblossom55 I'm just glad I'm not the only one thinking about centerpieces this early, haha.  I think save the dates is our next "thing" although we're waiting to get a picture or two while we're on vacation.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @Blue @peaseblossom55 I love both of your ideas of centerpieces! I love the tall ones with all the flowers but like y'all were saying, it just gets in the way sometimes. We are going with mason jars as well with a ribbon wrapping them all together with hydrangeas, roses, and calla lilies in them. We will probably have votive candles and the trays with them too. They will look hopefully something like this:
carnations and sweet william in pearl and lace decorated jam jars. so pretty
  • @blue&white I keep bouncing around and thinking of different things. We really need to focus in the next week on finally picking a photographer. Once we do that we can do an engagement shoot and STD's.  For August my goal is to pick a DJ too. I sometimes feel completely overwhelmed by all of the choices I have to make.

DH and I are finally going to get our new apartment settled this weekend. We have no other real plans other than that and grocery shopping. Exciting life! But I'll be so happy when there are no more boxes and everything has a place.
  • @LivLeighton - good luck on the prospective job!!!!  I hope they offer you zillion dollar salary, 6 months vacation, and all sorts of benefits.  ;)
  • @livleighton fingers crossed!!!!!!

  • @southernpeach89 love that we're both using mason jars :)  I know they're super popular right now, but I still like em.

@peaseblossom55 after booking our officiant, we have no more "people" to book (we're using fake flowers so we don't need a florist, and my mom/I am doing my own hair/makeup so I don't need hair/makeup people) - it's a lot less stressful now.  I don't have to meet with people for anything wedding related until we do our engagement pics (either in august or october...not sure/depending on my health and whether we want fall foliage) and then our food tasting (october/november, I believe).  remember you can always vent about wedding planning craziness here :)

@livleighton good luck on the job!!  and yea, thankfully my anti nausea pills seem to be alleviating a lot of my symptoms but it still stinks.  I think I've lost well over $5k due to this illness (lost wages from not working and medical bills).  Not the best way to save up for a wedding :)

@suzie211 - My thoughts are with your FI's family.

@livleighton - Good luck! My fingers are crossed!
  • Yay to flower pics.  Below are pictures from my florist in my venue.   I'm using similar arrangements with the mercury glass, but using blush pink and cream flowers.   The tall piece will only be used on the the piano up front that will be holding escort cards.  The rest of the tables will have a mix of  the smaller one or 3 mercury glass candle holders and small vases of flowers (like the pic below but with mercury glass).

  • @southernpeach89 I love your centerpiece idea. I love hydrangeas.  I worry they won't hold up in june because I would love them in my bouquet.

@blue&white There are so many things we still need to book it's a bit overwhelming. Photographer, DJ, florist, videographer, hair, make up- I've considered hiring a planner actually.

@livleighton good luck on the job still sending out vibes for you

@suzie211 - we moved about 2 weeks ago from Lakeview to Uptown (more specifically what Realtors are calling "Margate Park"). We just haven't had a chance to really get settled because we went for a camping trip over the 4th of July weekend.

ETA: I dunno if we've discussed this but I recognize your venue - my MOH had her wedding there in 2011.

ETA2: On second glance I'm less sure of the venue. lol. Is it in LP?
  • @peaseblossom55 you're in Jersey, right?  My cousin's planning a wedding in northern Jersey for January and all he has booked so far (according to my aunt, who may be out of the loop) is the venue.  They don't have a photog, DJ, or anything!  I was relatively shocked.  My aunt is more in the loop on my wedding than his wedding, though, and that makes me kinda sad.

Also, our photog was an easy pick (I went to undergrad with her) but DJs were pretty tough.  We ended up going with the one that we just clicked with the best.  He was also the most professional of the 3 we met with.  FI was a DJ for a bit so he knew most of the right questions to ask so I'm pretty confident in that decision.

Let me know if you need any vendor recommendations.  I know a zillion brides in Jersey at the moment, from waaaay up north Jersey to down south in the Philly area :)  I'm sure @swazzle has you mostly covered too

  • @cschiano Good eyes!  It is Salvatore's.  I think you did mention your friend's wedding was there.

My brother and a handful of friends all live in your new neighborhood.  They love it!  FI and I are in discussions of where we will head next.  We plan to buy next summer and most of our friends are staying in the city, but moving north.  So we're thinking of doing the same. Uptown would be super convenient for FI to get to work, but harder for me.  So we're leaning more towards Roscoe Village.  I love Bucktown, but I think we would get more for the money we spend if we head north.

Good luck on settling in the new place.  It will feel great to have everything unpacked and in its new place!

  • @blue&white- thanks! I'm in central/southern NJ depending how you look at it. It feels so overwhelming but I'm high strung like that. Wow I am freaking out about not having somethings booked and I'm 11 months out I couldn't imagine not having that stuff booked with a wedding in January.  Ah we also need a limo.  I'm 90% sure we are using @swazzle photographer.

    Is it 4 yet?

It's way too early for me to be thinking about flowers since I don't have a venue or a date yet, but I am anyway!  This is what I think I want, except maybe just one tall one instead of three:

(also, yay for me finally figuring out how to post pictures!)

@southernpeach89 you described pretty much exactly what I'm worried about with my hair, so you must show us pictures from the trial so I can learn from you!

I don't have too much planned this weekend and I'm hoping that doesn't change!  Tonight we may go to the movies, Saturday I'm hoping to get some cleaning done and maybe have a quiet movie and wine night with FI, and then Sunday we have a "luncheon" for FI's parents' dog's birthday haha.

My parents are also going to see the wedding venue I think I want tonight, so I'm excited to hear how that goes.  If all goes well I could be mailing a deposit check this weekend, yay!  My mom is a really good negotiator, but my dad's been really cranky about my cross-coastal planning so I'm hoping he doesn't act like a jackass and fuck it up!

  • @livleighton -- is this the job you interviewed for in PHX? I will send SUPERVIBES if so. Because how awesome would it be to live close to each other???

It is! And please send me supervibes, even though I won't actually be LIVING there if I get it. It's a remote, northeast position, but I'll be in PHX at least a few times a month, so that has to count, RIGHT?? And if I get it I'll be there for 2-3 weeks to onboard into the company, so we'd pretty much HAVE to see each other in that time. :)

Yup, just being nearby regularly would still be pretty awesome. And if you get it and are in AZ training, I will absolutely come up to PHX to see you! Or you'd be welcome in our home down in Tucson! Would you like to meet my Little Bubs? He's an excellent snuggler.

  • @suzie211 I just noticed your flower pics now and that is gorgeous I was looking at mercury glass vases last night. I'm also doing blush pink as my shade of pink.  I can't wait to see how they turn out after the wedding.

  • I'm late today because I've been in meetings all.effing.day. Good ones though - I'm on a hiring committee (when, a year ago, I wasn't even on the hiring committee for my own assistant) and another great meeting with my fabulous boss. I love my new job :)

Tonight, I'm making gifts for my friend's bridal shower that is tomorrow.  I'm doing the project from Pinterest where you etch the new last name onto a pyrex dish - I have their last name, and then I also drew some mountains in Illustrator to put on the other side (they're big hikers), and I'm also etching "Mr." & "Mrs." on the sides of two beer mugs. I hope they turn out okay.

Tomorrow is the shower, and then a birthday BBQ with some friends.

Sunday is relaxing, probably some cleaning, stuff like that.
