do groomsmen and ushers get the same gift?

Hey all. I'm having 4 of my friends be groomsmen in my wedding, and 2 others are going to serve as ushers. I decided not to have the ushers rent tuxes (they're both students and I know they both own suits, so I didn't want to put undue financial strain on them). I'm trying to figure out whether they should recieve the same gift as my groomsmen or if I should get seperate usher gifts. I don't want the ushers to feel shafted, but also don't want the groomsmen to feel shafted (after all, they have to spend additional money on tuxes that my ushers won't have to).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Don't stress about getting them matching gifts. As many people will say, shop for wedding party members like it's their birthday, with individual gifts that each one of them would want.

  • No, it is probably best to individualize/personalize, but whatever works for you is what you should go with. I am leaving this one up to my FI and I still don't know what he is doing yet, heck I may end up with it just to get it done. Sometimes I feel like that litte thing called time is not on our side and that they may all end up getting the same tihng in the end.
  • IMO, it's best to get everyone gifts that best fit them anyway.  That could be matching gifts but often, individual gifts work out so much better.
  • If you do matching gifts for the groomsmen, I would give the same gift to the ushers.  I would also have about the same budget for the ushers (if you do indiv gifts).  I just feel like otherwise they will feel like they were second string, not quite good enough for groomsmen and who wants to make your friends feel like that?  I wouldn't worry about factoring in their cost to be in the wedding, since afterall, it is a gift to thank them for being there and supporting you and FI.
