Don't complain about things going wrong until....

You end up at the emergency room on your wedding night, and have to get 3 stitches! I stepped on a piece of glass (when I was of course barefoot on the dance floor after 4.5 hours of dancing), and stepped on a glass someone dropped. Lots of blood ensued, and my husband and dad took me straight to the hospital. Luckily, when you show up to the ER in a wedding dress, they take you in right away! But otherwise, I had an awesome time, only missed the last 15 min of the party, and we still left for our honeymoon on Sunday (although I needed crutches for the first 2 days!) Just a little story for brides in the planning process and worried about things that might go wrong. As long as nothing major happens, just enjoy yourself and have an awesome time! Getting married to you FI is awesome, no matter what else happens!

  • Glad you have a good attitude about it! That sucks but the picture is great! Our venue was telling our doc to make ppl keep their shoes on for this reason but you couldn't see my feet under my dress (except maybe during my footloose dancing!).

  • Haha, love that picture!  It sucks that you had to go to the hospital, but you'll always have the memory.
My mom was in the hospital on her wedding night (her brother's wife gave birth and the entire wedding party went to see the new baby).  I really wish they could have taken pictures so they could have had a picture to remember it like you do.

  • As crappy as it is to have your foot injured, it'll be a great story years from now.

    Officially hitched as of 10/25/13

What a story - I'm glad you're getting a laugh out of it already. The picture is awesome. You look like a real trooper!

ETA: And I'm sure that glass-dropper feels awful!
  • Glad you had a good attitude about it and it happened at the end of your wedding.  This is just ONE example of why I hate bare feet. In addition to the really gross sanitary issues and generally, I don't like people's nasty feet coming in contact with my feet.   who knows if someone with gross bacteria or athlete's foot or whatever was dancing around that floor with me.

I'm with you. I have an irrational fear of feet and I'm having a flip flop basket at my wedding because I will be god damned if there are bare feet wandering around.

OP - I too am glad that you have such a good attitude about this!

MY SIL damn near cut her middle and ring fingers on her left hand off the day before her wedding. She was using an electric trimmer to cut prairie grass for the ceremony space. They were late to the rehearsal because she was in the ER and she almost needed emergency surgery. She was determined to get the ring on the finger at the ceremony and took all the bandages off right before. I felt so bad for her. But now it's funny. We kept telling her that if she didn't want to marry him, she should have just said something instead of trying to cut her wedding ring finger off.

  • Yikes, girl! You definitely had a great attitude about it, and you look terrific even in the ED! Congratulations on getting married! :)
  • Now THAT's a picture for the scrapbook!!!
    Glad your foot is okay!
  • Stage, I'm with you. OP, good for you for having a good attitude about it but it is still weird how you made it sound like the end of the world in the beginning of the thread and title. I thought your groom left you at the alter, glad that didn't happen.
  • wow, epic photo though. That would be the one I title "The rest of the story...."

I wonder if anyone knows who Paul Harvey was.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • I do @MuppetFan!!  We used to listen to him on the radio as kids.

Good. I say that line periodically and people look at me like I have 3 heads.

The superbowl commercial where they used his '"farmers" monologue last year made me cry.

  • Eh, I had a similar reaction to Linger. It IS a funny story and the bride has a good overall attitude about it, but anytime someone starts with the whole "don't complain about your wedding unless what happened to me happens to you" it instantly rubs me the wrong way. Whether or not it's intended, it belittles other brides who might have had legitimate complaints that didn't involve blood. And it wasnt actually necessary to the story.
    oh for pity's sake !
  • Beautiful picture! Great attitude!

  • Link to the story about the Flower Girl, it occurred in 2006.

Incidentally, she was 7, the bride's niece, and they were hit head on by a drunk driver. It was the mother, not the bride, who found her daughter's head and refused to let go. She would have been 14 this year.

As a follow up, the drunk driver was convicted  of two counts of 2nd degree murder, got 18 years, and appealed in 2010. In 2011, the NY court shot him down 3 to 1. No idea if he appealed further.

  • I heard a story once about a wedding party traveling by car to the ceremony site when their car crashed. The flower girl was beheaded and the bride rode to the hospital cradling the child's head in her lap.

How's that for doom and gloom?

    WHAT IN THE SERIOUS FUCK

  • I get that nobody wants to be in jail, but I cannot understand how someone actually thinks they don't deserve to be in jail after beheading a child.

I'd sit in my cell and die of guilt and shame, not appealing a damn thing!
