seating

so I was creating my seating chart and I was thinking what if I just print name tags with numbers corrseponding to the guest's choice of meal and then tell the venue what each number represents.  That way guest can sit wherever they feel like.  Would this be ok or is it totally unacceptable?

Re: seating

Personally, I'm a fan of assigned tables.  Then I know that I'm sitting where the hosts want me to sit and I don't have to have the awkward 5 minute wandering stare with DH about where we 'belong'.

well first of all it seems strange to wear name tags at a wedding.

its also confusing.  guests will see the number and assume its their table number, but they won't find a table corresponding with that number.

why don't you have the waiters just ask the guests what they ordered?  I've been to weddings like that before and it seems like people tell the truth.  Also catering halls usually make more food just in case so if a few people lie about what they ordered, they should be able to cover it.

All of this being said, I personally think it is much nicer not to ask guests to choose their meal 2 months ahead of time.  If it's possible, I suggest you allow guests to choose from the menu at the wedding..

lol yes it would be very silly to have name tags at a wedding, I meant escort cards =p unfortunately, our venue requires a head count 30 days ahead =/ I will just make the seating chart to avoid forcing my guests to go through that awkward where do we belong phase.  There were just some people I wasn't sure about, but I'll find a spot for them
