Help with maxi dress size please!

Hello. I am having a casual wedding, not for ages, but this dress has popped up in my inbox and I am in love. It is very me. I am short, curvy, and just don't like or suit wedding gowns. And it is an amazing price. I would usually purchase this dress in an Australian 8, most likely if I was not able to try it on I would purchase it in an Australian 10 to make sure it would fit my bust (dd). I will order this dress larger again, just to be on the super safe side! My question is, if I ordered it in a 14, way way way too big for me, is this the style of dress that can easily be taken in to a size 8? (I think that is order in a US10, take it in to a US4?)
I would just want to absolutely ensure there was enough fabric for boob cover. Here is the dress: http://www.forevernew.com.au/Evilen-panelled-bodice-maxi-dress.aspx?p52476&cr=024813

I will work on uploading a picture...

ps. I have shopped many times at this store in New Zealand. However this dress is only available in Australia, or online. I am not worried about there quality, as it is always good. Here is the description Feel like a princess in this special occasion dress. This style features a sheer maxi silk skirt over a short dress with panelled contrast bust. This dress comes fully lined with a boned bodice, jelly tape for support, detachable straps and an invisible side zip. Fabrication: Outer - Silk; Lining - Polyester, Elastane blend; Contrast - Silk, Elastane.

  • And sorry for spelling! That should be their quality, not there quality... grrr

  • I would get your measurements taken by a seamstress and use the dress maker's size guide to determine what size you should order. Use your largest measurement and get that size.  If you're close to the next size up, get it.  It's definitely easier to take a dress in than let it out, but if you really are a 10 and order a 14, it might require reconstruction, which is usually possible, but expensive.

PP has the best advice. Get your measurements and you can even ask your seamstress what it is that you are acquiring and what she considers the best size would be.
