Shoe Trouble

I've been wearing the shoes I bought for my wedding to work periodically to break them in.  However, I have a desk job in a small building, so even when I have to get up, it's rare I'm on my feet for more than a couple of minutes.  Last night I wore the shoes to my first fitting, so the dress is being hemmed to the height of these shoes.  However, my feet kept sliding forward and were pretty much numb by the time the fitting was over (45-ish minutes of mostly standing still).  I have wide feet, so it's hard for me to find heels especially that fit well.  Is there anything I can do to help stop my foot from slipping?

On a related note, I know lots of people here suggest getting a pair of platform flip flops to change into -- which is a great idea.  However, I feel like my foot is being ripped in half when I wear flip flops.  I also am very leary of a 3+" platform without some sort of ankle strap.  I just see my heel slipping to the side and twisting my ankle.  I've been looking without much luck for something that is wide and high enough.  Can anyone suggest something?

  • To keep your foot from sliding forward, I would use a cusion or non-slip insert in the front of the shoe. This should take up any extra space that your foot is trying to fill when your foot slips forward.

As for the platform flip flops. Have you tried them? They are much more rigid then normal flip flops that you find uncomfortable. The other option is just a pair of sandals with a higher platform in front, maybe like these:http://www.6pm.com/kork-ease-ava-black~2 . The difference in height between the toe and heel here is much smaller, and presumably, much more comfortable, without sacrificing height.

  • I agree w/pp, there are little inserts you can buy, like little half insoles made for the ball of your foot for when you are wearing heels. That will hopefully help.  :)
  • Thanks, ladies.  I already have an insert, but maybe I need to add another one at the ball of the foot.  I'll give that a try.
  • Will you have a petticoat under your dress? Sometimes that will give the dress a little extra lift for you to wear lower shoes.
  • My dress comes with a couple of layers of tulle built in. I just spent some time on Amazon and ordered some new inserts and a couple of heels to try in the same height.  Maybe something else will be a little more comfy.  Hopefully most of my order is going back.
  • You might consider buying a pair of wedges.  I do think a better insert will help, but if your foot is still sliding, I'd consider a different shoe.
  • As much as I don't want to, I am considering other shoes.  I just ordered 4 pairs in the same height from Amazon.  Hopefully 1 pair is a winner, and the other 3 go back.  I also ordered a couple different inserts.  Thanks again for the advise.  I'm very much not a shoe girl.

If it makes you feel better, I ordered 6 pairs of shoes from DSW before finding the perfect ones. Even then I had a box of shoes in the brides room the day of the wedding, I had heels, flats, flip flops, wedge flip flops and rainboots.

Sadly, I spent over a year looking for the shoes I bought.  I don't know the exact number I've been through, but it's way more than 6.  My foot is slightly wide and I *hate* showing my toes (I find feet repulsive), so my options are limited.  Tons of shoes seen to run narrow these days.  Some of the shoes I ordered today are open-toe.  I probably won't wear them again, but I've got 2 months left, I can't afford to be as picky as I would like to be.
  • I don't know what the bottom of your dress looks like but mine is slightly bubble hemmed and i am just wear a pair of converse tennis shoes under mine.  I bedazzled a pair I already had to make them more "wedding-y" but I really just wanted to be comfortable.  No one will see them anyway but if they happen to get a look then oh well hopefully they will think it is as Me as I do.I also considered Toms that were glittery but I already had the other shoes and didn't want to spend the money. Wear whats comfortable for you.  Do you really want to have a pained expression on your face at the end of the night for the sake of uber cute shoes? Good luck!
