Is a traditional wedding album worth the cost?

I keep balking at the quotes from photographers saying wedding albums cost between $800-$1800 for an ALBUM!

What are others doing the traditional route through the photographer or making your own?

That is a very high quote for and album. My photographer said the most expensive one would be 8-900 and these are basically leather covers engraved with name and date and REALLY thick board and quite a lot of pictures. Im not going for that one but IJS that you should definitely look at what you would be getting. If its the same quality s say shutterfly lol do it yourself and save a ton:)

FWIW, our photographer gave us a print of every photo as a border-printed 4x6 in 4 leather bound albums.    No they weren't wedding albums but either way we have the photos of our wedding and if we really wanted photos to be enlarged, we had them printed or framed.

At this point, we're married 6 years (our anniversary was Sunday!) and we'll look at snapshots of the wedding from time to time but we just don't go through an album all that often.   When I think of what several hundred dollars gets us, I am SO glad that we didn't spend it on the photo album!

I know the range is really all over the map, and the $1,400 one  seems to be just like the one you describe for $8-900! I think you end up paying for the photographers time to "design" it.

Happy Anniversary Banana! Really great point though about 6 years later how much time you spend looking at them. Now it seems "SO" important but in a few years it might not be!

My photographer is only charging me 3-400 for the book and altho I might not look at it often I would love a book to show the sequence of the day an it will also have some written words and stuff so it will be nice for ppl to look at and also for me to go back thru the day :)

My fiancé and I decided to not go with a professional album and save some money in that area. He came up with a fun idea that we could use the photos and do a scrapbook project together for our wedding :)

Our album was included in the package, and the photographer wouldn't remove it. We would have preferred to pass it up, but it looked nice once I finally got it. Honestly, in this day and age I care more about the digital files I can upload and use on my computer and phone. But I'm sure in 50 years that album will be really important.

@MoonlightSilver, my sentiments exactly.  Because in 50 years, technology will be completely different.  I want something to show my grand kids.  Spending $1,500 on a beautiful, leatherbound album that my photographer professionally designed is a small price to pay for the memories it reminds us of.  I would like to say that I could have designed it myself, but who am I kidding, life is just too busy and I would never get to it!  The files are a nice add-on because I definitely want to share my photos online, but they're not going to last forever.

Sumler2Be mentioned, something that I can order off Shutterfly.  Bleh.
