Food for the morning/early afternoon of.

All of my girls, my mom, and myself are getting our hair done at a bridal salon. We have to be there at 8:30 am to be out by 1:00 (at the latest). I am trying to figure out what to provide for them at the salon to eat. I am GF so subs and bagels are out of the question. I was thinking for sure fruit and veggies, but that doesn't fill too much of a whole esp when cocktail hour isn't until 5:30 and dinner at 6:30.

Any ideas?

  • Hmm. Cheese (apples & cheese: YUM), yogurt parfait bar type thing? Chips & salsa/guacamole? Popcorn?

Also, almonds! (or other various nuts, if you're not an almond fan.)
  • Hummus with the veggies?

  • As someone who is not GF, the smaller additions would be yummy, but would not tide me over at all. I could not go from 8:30 am to 5:30 on yogurt, hummus and an apple.  :(  Is there food you can order for yourself, and then have bagels or sandwiches for anyone else who might want them? Just my thoughts. I know it is your wedding and it sucks that you wouldn't be able to eat it - but others could.  (Or can they not even be in the same area as food you eat? Different platters?) Just my thoughts.

  • Can you do an egg bake or egg muffins in the morning? put em in a crock pot to keep them warm at the salon?

I think if you have enough cheese, sausage, fruit, veggies, hummus, etc people can much enough to last through to dinner. But maybe you could get deli meats and silver dollar buns to make sandwiches? (or lettuce wraps for GF?)

  • I thought of the cheese and crackers. We have four sticks of sausage in our freezer so I wont have to buy that. I can get some regular and GF crackers too. One of my BMs is GF too. I sent them all a message asking for ideas.

  • We have to be at the salon at 8am but its just me, my MOH and my mom. I think I'm either going to stop on the way there and pick up breakfast sandwiches or something from a coffee shop or whatever. My MOH is staying at my house the night before the wedding so I'll have to talk to her and see what she thinks
  • I think finger foods is good though because it's less messy to eat! (if you're getting makeup done, etc)

  • I'm just wondering for those of you getting your hair done at 8/9 in the morning what time is your ceremony?  My hair appointment is at 1130 (just me and my mom with different people so it should only take 1.5 hours max) and the ceremony starts at 4.  I'm wondering if I scheduled too late???
  • I also like the thought of finger food.  I like the fruit and veggie trays but I would be starving!  I would look up recipes or find a local grocery store that has blueberry muffins or snacks like chips that are GF.http://glutenfreegirl.com/2007/01/the-sweetness-of-domesticity/  Maybe pre place an order at a place and have it delivered for 1130 that way everyone gets what they want.

  • @jessafaith my ceremony is at 2pm but we are doing 98% of our pictures before hand at noon-ish.
  • @jessafaith15 - we have to be at the salon at 8:30. There are 7 women altogether getting their hair done. Our ceremony starts at 3 and we are able to get into the place at 2. Some pictures will be done before the ceremony starts.

  • We are trying to figure out the food situation too.  We are picking up danishes and pastries for getting hair done to go with mimosas (have to be at salon at 9 am).  We are having wraps or sandwich fixins platter at my sister's house while we get ready in our dresses.  Our ceremony is at 2, but we are doing pictures and everything after that, and dinner starts at 6 and we won't be at the cocktail hour.
  • @alisonmarie658 - I'm really digging the egg white and white cheddar option at McDonald's.

I think that all PP ideas sound great! Our salon is providing food for us - and I'll provide the champagne for mimosas!  Lunch - I figured we'd get sandwiches from WAWA!

  • I honestly didn't even think about this...we are staying in a hotel the night before and getting ready there that morning, so we may just order room service.

  • Ugh.  One more thing to think about.

My hair appointment is at 7:30, and then I'm off to my sister's by 9 (so I'll be to her place by 9:05) to get my makeup done, and get dressed.  Limo should pick us up around 10:15, be to venue by 10:45 at the latest, wedding starts at 11:15.

I hadn't even THOUGHT about eating.  Bleh.  Guess I'd better make a pit stop at Sonic for a breakfast burrito!!!
  • @alisonmarie658 - If I forget to eat, I will pass out. Being hypoglycemic is not fun!

I'm the same way! I'll need to have someone remember to make sure that I eat that day, cause otherwise I'll get all shaky, dizzy and sick. I'd be walking down the aisle and just pass out! Haha.
I really hadn't even thought about having to figure out food that morning. Guess I'll need to work that one out now too!
