RANT: Invitation fail.

2»

Re: RANT: Invitation fail.

  • I got an email from a friend inviting H and I to her wedding. Attached to the email was an image of an invitation. I'm not a huge fan of e-invites for a wedding, but that turned out to be small fries compared to the rest. Issues:

    - RSVP due 8/24, wedding 11/30 - there is no explaining this and I can't understand it. Yeah, that doesn't make sense.
    - "after-five attire"  I don't understand this either.
    - "adults only" Rude.
    - wedding website lists location/time of RD but says "WP and family only" Should have been accessible only by WP and family, not everyone who browses the site.
    - invite said 5:00, day-of schedule on website says "doors at 5:00, ceremony at 5:30" (i.e. they're trying to get people to show up 30 minutes early) Yes, technically rude, but they probably have VIPs with punctuality problems, so I'd let this one pass.
    - I linked to their Amazon registry and they are registered for clothing like sweatshirts, outerwear, and t-shirts I'd let this one go.
    - no room blocks (not against etiquette per se, but annoying since there are bunch of OOT guests) Like you say, annoying but not rude.

:( I'm convinced this is a direct result of places like WW and the bees constantly telling brides they can do whatever they want. Just ugh. And more ugh.

  • @Scrib95 While I think some people don't know any better, others are cheap and selfish.

I dare you to hang out on WW for a few days. Your head will explode. It confirms my hypothesis.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.
  • I could understand scanning the invite and sending it IF the bride just got a returned invite from the postman that was supposed to be sent, then hung out in limbo for awhile before making its way back to sender, which would explain the proximity to the RSVP deadline.  Why it would be out that far, I have no idea that doesn't sound rude (ex: B-listing after first wave).  As for the after five attire...maybe it's really a pajama party wedding reception!!! (Still rude, btw.)

What is "after-five attire"!? Lol After 5:00 I'm usually in Pjs...

Go in PJ pants and bunny slippers!

  • Eek posting on FB would not even be an option for me as there is a limited number of people I am inviting from there.

Batman slippers and no bra!? A pj party wedding!
  • I just put on my "after 5" attire and damn did it feel good.

  • Here's another one:

Don't post about your invitations on Facebook and ask everyone to get your RSVPS in when not everyone on your FB is invited! I got one of those yesterday. She had 4 people reply by asking where their invites are. To one of them - she told him that she sent his invitation to his mother and he should tell his mom whether he's coming or not (he's a 39 year old married man. To the others, she "liked" the comments.

I made a similar mistake about a week ago. Luckily most of my FB friends are invited since I only have my close friends on FB but there are a couple that got left out and once I realized my mistake I felt like an asshat. I still do actually.

My after 5 attire is no pants. Maybe I should go to the wedding in your place!

HAHA. Actually, mine is no bra, a tshirt and pajama pants.
Mine is t-shirt, and underwear (no bra). They would love me
  • @cap816 said, "I get all that is wrong with her invitation, but if this is your friend, just let it go.  Your talking so badly about someone with whom you are close is honestly just as gross - if not more so - than her breaches of etiquette, which I would assume are unintentional.  And if she's not really your friend, then decline the invitation and simply do her the favor of ceasing association."

I can't be bothered with the your/you're debate, I'm still shaking my head on the "do her the favor of ceasing association."
