Ladies We're In the 6 month stretch Already!!

So, I'm making an effort to start posting on this board more. I'm a 2/15 bride and it's crazy to realize that it is already august! Are you all on top of checklist at this point? I'm not even done with my 8-6 month checklist. But I do have some of it done (and it's the big stuff so that's good right?). I'm procrastinating on my dress though. How is everyone else doing?

Re: Ladies We're In the 6 month stretch Already!!

  • I feel like I'm behind lol Im booking my venue 2mro and my photographer and dj are holding my dates until I can get back to CT in 3 weeks. I fund the dress I want but haven't ordered it yet because of funds :( I didnt even finish my save the dates!! OMG! I really am behind HELP!! lol My date is 2/14 so we are back to back :)
    <a href="http://www.theknot.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Free Wedding Vows"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tickers/tt183e45.aspx" alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • We have our venue, photog, dj, and caterer booked. We are working on sending out the STDs (this consists of me nagging FI for his guests' addresses). I'm in same boat w/ funds and dress so I'm trying to find something similar but cheaper than the original dress I thought I was in love with. Wedding dresses! Who knew?
  • Oh I forgot...I got my Officiant all set by luck LMAO and my FI has his suit :) but yup I gotta get on the ball :) Did u guys already set any of the smaller details?
    <a href="http://www.theknot.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Free Wedding Vows"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tickers/tt183e45.aspx" alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • We are waiting to hear back from our prospective officiant he is on vacation right now. But hopefully we will get that nailed down soon. I've picked out my flowers (not purchased, but I did decide on what I want them to look like). Getting FI to get a tux is going to take nothing short of a miracle. He never dresses up. This should be fun. :)
  • I made an appointment for our party site on the 16th. We're having a party sometime in March since our wedding is family only. I have not bought a dress yet. Hoping to get a job soon then I'll pick one of the 5-6 I am looking at. Once we have our party date I'll try and find a photographer. Fiance already has his suit and I'm not doing flowers.

    I'm the 15th as well.

  • Sent in the stuff for the venue YAY! thing I really love is they provide centerpieces as well so I don't have to worry much about that just my party and me to walk down the aisle :) Just went today to make FI look for his ring....men are sooo picky lmao
    <a href="http://www.theknot.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Free Wedding Vows"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tickers/tt183e45.aspx" alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • Oh!! I can't believe I forgot this earlier, I've picked out my cake! Woohooo!!!
  • Hi ladies! I am also a 2/14 bride :) We have the major stuff done...venue, caterer, DJ, photographer, my dress, bridesmaid dresses picked out, STD's sent, centerpieces are purchased. I love that it's all coming together :)
  • We have booked all our vendors, ordered everything, picked out the tux, ordered the dress and bought the wedding bands.  I am actually being insanely organized for once.  My thought is that once November hits there are Thanksgiving, Christmas then New year and I don't think much is going to get done then, so trying to get everything done early.  Also trying to spread out the payments to make it a bit easier financially.

I am actually making up my save the dates at the moment to send out later this month, as we have people coming from different State and countries.  Going for the food tasting next month to finalize the menu.  It's cool when it all starts to come together.

  • I definitely agree with you @foster14 about spreading out the payments. That's one of the reasons I need to hurry and get these thing done but thank goodness my Dj is not that expensive lol Does anyone else feel like time is going by faster than it should??
    <a href="http://www.theknot.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Free Wedding Vows"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tickers/tt183e45.aspx" alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • Wow!!! @Ashpash415 Girl you are rocking it! I've only scratched the surface of my centerpieces.

@Foster14, yes, I have the same thoughts about November and the whirlwind that will follow. I'm putting stamps on the STDs and dropping them in the mail tomorrow. We set up our room block at the hotel for our guests/WP traveling. We have quite a few OOT'ers too. Whew! There's still a lot to do. But I'm feeling confident.
  • I haven't done flowers, DJ, or invitations yet, but I'm starting to focus on some of the little stuff. 2/1 bride - 179 days to go!
  • Hi everyone...I'm new here and you are already making me feel better!  Got engaged 3 weeks ago and am getting married 2/8 so it's felt like things need to move fast and I feel way behind!  Glad to see some others still need some major pieces decided for February as well! :)  I have the church, venue, save the dates, and bridesmaid color (but not dress) worked out.  Think I'm ordering my dress tomorrow...found it last weekend and have been mulling it over all week...think I just need to do it!

Any advice on what to ask dj's when calling for a price quote??

  • How many hours you are paying for?

How much time do they need to set up (so the venue also knows)?

How many weddings they have done? ( if they are new you need someone that has at least done a few weddings before so they at least have a feel for things.) If you are not having a DOC they are the ones that usually let you know when its time to do certain things (i.e. cake, tosses etc)

That's all I can think of HTH :)

  • 2/15, just under 200 days to go. Not sure if I'm on track or way behind schedule.

Officiant: MOH's mom & my kinda sorta mom. Plus I'm a children's minister so finding an officiant was the easy part
Cake: co-worker has a sideline business out of her home & is giving me a great deal
Photographer: friend has a friend who is doing it in exchange for a free trip to Okla & a couple of meals
Food: another kinda sorta mom offered to play chef, so I'm just out cost of food.
Decor: been buying stuff as I find it, plus can borrow whatever else I need.
Flowers: getting married the day after Valentine's day means flowers will be ridiculously expensive, or hard to find in the stores, so I've spoken to some nurseries about potted plants.
Music: friend works for a music company so I should be able to borrow speakers & mic from her, then just plug in the mp3 player.
Invitations: I do document design at work all the time, so I've already got them ready to print

    Now for the way behind:
MONEY: seems like the closer we get, the more our budget goes down.
Venue: I "think" I found it, but planning to start looking at them in the next couple weeks.
All the 8,472,963 other little things I've forgotten to do.
  • @jlhart76 you've got more than I have done LMAO

I know this is soooo freaking exciting

So we have our venue booked and have our next a payment due in September.
Colors picked and we decided the wedding is Mardi Gras/New Orleans style.
Flowers are booked but we want to rework our flowers a little bit.
    Photography booked
    Videographer booked
Favors - Photobooth and Flip book booth are booked.
Wedding dress ordered. I did that like the week after we were engaged...and it just came in! Gotta make my try on appointment.
    Caterer booked
Had our engagement Party and our caterer catered it
    Looking into limos now
Still working on my annulment so *gasp* the ceremony is NOT booked
BM dresses are picked out and we order them on September 7th. I only have 5 girls so its pretty easy.
Save the dates were given out at the engagement party or sent out for those that didn't come.
Trying to get my mom to look for an MOB dress within the month.
Fi and are working on our alter, reception decor, wedding invites and any other paper products we might do.
Now Scrambling for our ceremony aspect because our Parish isnt going to work out! Ahhhhh!
  • Went and looked at a place this weekend. It may be in my budget, I just need to figure out logistics on having ceremony and reception in one room. But starting to actually look makes it seems more real.
  • @jlhart76 If they can and are willing to switch out the room while the cocktail hour is being held somewhere a lil different (bar area, lounge) then it can be done.

    <a href="http://www.theknot.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Free Wedding Vows"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tickers/tt183e45.aspx" alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • I have the location, food, bridesmaids dresses, my dress, and photographer done. I think the location, food and bridesmaid dresses were the most stressful parts! Glad to have those out of the way now to cake, flowers and decorations!! I too want to get it all figured out in the next few months before the holidays hit because those times are already hectic enough.
  • I getting really depressed because I was supposed to have the deposit for the photographer and the dj in hand but now I really need a van for the kiddos for school :( I hate the hours my husband works! But hopefully it will only take me another 2 weeks into Sept to get the funds up ...

  • The whole point of having ceremony and reception together was to save money, and we can't afford to rent another room for a cocktail hour. Plus as of now its a dry wedding (not in the budget) and its hard to have cocktail hour without cocktails.

We are doing the same thing. We haven't figured out the logistics quite yet either. But I'm thinking we will have the majority of the tables set up for the reception (kind of in a U shape), and we will have some chairs set up in the front for family. Then we just have to move those chairs to the tables (which will be done during our 'receiving line'). Then boom, back into the room for 'cocktail hour'. I had a lady tell me they can flip the room really quickly if the tables are set up and along the perimeter of the room, but if they are already going to be seen, then they might as well be sat at in MPO. But, it can done. There are a lot of blogs/threads online about how to make the one room idea work. We are determined.

hi there! I'm 2/8 also, can't believe it's under 6 mos already! We got engaged in 10/12 so we've had a lot if time to get things done.

So far we have: ceremony and reception venue (same place), band, photog, cake, my dress, bridesmaids dresses, florist, hotel room block and rehearsal dinner restaurant. Got all the major stuff done. Still have to choose and send invitations, get tuxes and a hundred other little things.

when you talk to dj I would find out how many hours are included, what gets played during breaks, does s/he include any lighting, do they have insurance, have they played your venue before, and 3 references of previous couples. Good luck!

  • I feel really behind! We have looked at venues. The one we like has all the decorations and catering included in the rental fee, which is nice. They do the set up and take down, which will be amazing. We want to have the ceremony in a church and have started talking to them.
I've started making the save the dates. I don't have a finalized guest list yet.
I'm also not going to do real flowers. I decided to make my own paper flowers. Our date is 2/14 and real flowers would be over priced and lower quality. Paper ones don't die and they are really cute.

That's about all I have done. We haven't even booked anything yet. I'm hoping to get on the ball with that soon.
  • Tomorrow is a busy day for me. Trying on wedding dresses. My friend who is getting married in April is coming too. She just bought her dress today. Gonna try on a couple different styles even though I'm like 90% sure already what dress I'm gonna buy.
Then after that my fiance and I are booking our party. My parents are throwing us a party on March 15th--exactly a month after our wedding. Gonna be a brunch buffet which should be fun.

I look forward to marking things off my to-do list. I'm am more excited about being married than I am the actual wedding.

  • I'm really giddy! I said yes to the dress!!!!! Yay!! I'm so excited! I love the dress. It's a "natural waist A-line" silhouette, which I love! I thought I wanted a mermaid, but they were not fun to move in or sit in. When they lady had me try on this dress I fell in love! It's strapless with a a sweetheart neckline, and it is full lace over satin. It's beautiful. And it's actually discontinued, which I was worried about, but it fits with room to be taken in a little. So basically I found an awesome dress for a super great deal!! I'm so excited! Did I say that already? I just had to tell some people that would understand!!
  • Hooray!!!!
I just said "yes!" to the dress myself today. Went to David's Bridal with my parents and sister. Tried on 5 dresses and the 1st one I tried ended up being "the one." It was on sale and exactly the style I want. Needs a corset (lace-up) back put in and a bustle but otherwise it's perfect.
Actually felt like a bride. That's a huge relief and check mark off my list.

  • Hooray for you guys finding your dress!  I just got back home and now I have the joy of realizing how behind I am in the planning process.  Oh well, I just need to get busy!
