what's the budget?

 DK and I tend to give each other "experience" gifts

*dinner at a really nice restaurant (e.g. took him to Morimoto for chef's tasting menu+drink pairings)
pro sports tickets (+ food/drinks at the game + travel, if necessary - he planned a trip to Anaheim for a hockey game, last January - too bad they ended up striking.)
long weekend trip (I'm taking him to San Antonio for his birthday, in a few weeks - shhh it's a surprise)
"zookeeper for a day" - he planned this one for me at the Camden aquarium - behind the scenes tour, animal interaction, etc. (f you're near the Sea World in FL, they do something like this - I've been looking into it for the SA trip)
amusement park day trip (pre-kid)

You could also go on interests/hobbies
DK is into fish/aquariums so I've considered getting him a large tank setup (like 100+gal)
I got him a homebrew kit for Valentine's day that was a big hit.

    other tickets - concerts, comedy shows, etc. would be cool, too.

    she didn't specify the budget - hence my question; "what's the budget?". 

    some people have a $10 budget, some $100, some $10,000 - just because it's a high dollar doesn't mean it's not a "budget" activity. 

    concert tix, sport tix, amusement park, zookeeper could all be $200 or less. she could even do a local-ish weekend away in that range ( groupon getaway? hotel points?)

    it's all relative. 

    $10 could be a lot for someone 

    "on a budget" could mean "planning to spend $500 on a gift this time, when i typically wouldn't think twice on dropping $1000"

    a "budget home" in Cali would be $500K
    anything under $20K might be considered a "budget wedding" in NYC

    I'm aiming for under $150, total of $200 including dinner out. Why do some men have to be impossible to buy for?

    I looked into tix for a football game he really wanted to go to, but they were in the 200$ per seat range, plus cost of driving and hotel there. He quashed that one himself.

    is his football team local? If not, what about getting him a subscription to one of the sports channels so he can catch all of the games? I think that would run you around $150 for the season.

    what about a dude day at the spa?  I got DH an old fashioned barber shave one time, with the hot towel, soap lather, the whole kibosh.  He really enjoyed that and a massage.

    it might, h, but I live in a county that banned strip joints and "gentlemen's clubs"- prostitutes and escorts here are likely either very expensive or so cheap you're terrified of what you're getting.

    Had previously gotten him a sports massage. Wasn't really his thing. 

    Right now, I'm taking the day of his birthday off from work, and am treating him to dinner. 

    Discussing his bday gift- a couple of sports/fitness stores recently opened up in our area. We have a stationary bike that's basically crap and never used- I could sell it and use the money to off set the cost of a treadmill, which is something he wants, but still don't have things set in stone.

    The lowest end good treadmill is still about $700.  I don't know if a stationary bike that's "almost crap" would be able to offset that.

    If he's a runner, what about an IPod shuffle?  New running shoes?  Running belt for water?  Nice undergarments for winter running coming up?  Fancy shoelaces that won't untie?  I'd hit a local running/sports shop and just see if there's something that catches your eye as a nice addition to his gear.

    On a similar thought, would entries for the both of you into somethjng like a Color Run or Tough Mudder a charity marathon/10k or something like that be of any interest? Make it a couples activity to train before the event.

    I would like to do something like that dharma, but I have a bum left knee from distance track in HS 10 yrs ago. (it literally pops and cracks every time I bend it, regardless of putting weight on it)

    As an update: he finally picked out a bluetooth portable speaker he really wants, so that's been ordered. He also sent suggestions for some expensive graphics cards for his custom self built computer, but those are under consideration for his "big" gift at Christmas. Additionally, we're on an email list for a high end chain restaurant. Haven't been there in quite a while, but he got his bday "certificate" from them that's basically a BOGO on whatever meal I order of equal or lesser value, so I'm treating to swanky dinner (it's located in the same hotel we're going to spend our wedding night in, and we'll be having our private wedding night dinner there too after the morning ceremony and lunch reception).
