Marriage License...???

Hi everyone!  I really hope someone on here can help because for once I cannot find the answeon Google!

My fiance starts a new job in March.  So I'll be dropped from his currect insurance and his new company won't allow him to add me unless we're married.  So we kind of need to get a marriage license in FL before our wedding in Vegas (April 27).  I am just concerned this will be a problem when we go to get our marriage license in NV.

Does anyone know the answer to this??

Can you just go without insurance until the wedding? Try to see if your doctors will give you enough prescriptions to last you until the wedding. I know once i add my FI to my insurance after the wedding, the insurance if effective the day of the wedding, so even without an insurance card, he will be covered...id just have to provide a doctor documentation later.
  • Do you need a marriage license in FL so that you can get married there? If you get married in FL, you wouldn't need to get a license in NV since you're already technically married. If you were planning on just getting a license, I don't know if an insurance company will take just a license as proof; they'll want a marriage certificate...

If I'm understanding correctly, you'll be legally married in Florida so you won't need one in Vegas because you won't be legally getting married.. Still do the ceremony since I'm assuming it's already planned and paid for but you'll already have done the paper work part.

  • I advise not to go without insurance.  I hurt my knee at my wedding.  This type of stuff happens!

  • Yea, I do not want to risk going without insurance and then if the insurnace company takes longer to process we'll be going on our honeymoon.  I do not want to be out of the country with no insurance...

  • Your health insurance may be dated to the day of your wedding, not enrollment. This is usually the policy for a life event or change in insurance status.

You can also purchase travel insurance with a medical rider that will cover anything JIC.
  • I wouldn't advise going without insurance either. But his old employer has to offer you Cobra. Its pricey but you could take that for the 1 month before the wedding.

  • thanks guys!!!  you all helped a lot!  I really apprecite it =)
