A FB friend of mine posted something on facebook that has left me in shock. Her husband was my high school math teacher and I knew them through our shared faith. She was always a great example for me because she always showed herself as a Christian.
She posted this last night.
"I feel I must post this. No, I am not a gay/lesbian hater. I love the people personally, but I do not agree with the lifestyle. JCPenney will be advertising their clothing using gay and lesbian models. I feel that everyone should know about this. I'm sure there are other clothing stores that I do not know about. I will not be shopping at JCPenney because I do not want their advertisement coming in our home. This is God's home and I'm called to guard it. I can't change the world, but I can make sure our home is a safe and Godly home. Yes, God loves homosexuals, but he does not love that lifestyle. It takes a man and woman to build a family. If God intended for 2 women or 2 men to raise babies, they would be able to make them "together". God is a loving God, but He also says He's a God of wrath. He will not stand for purposeful sin!! I am in no way perfect, but I am willing to admit my sin and if I don't realize it, I pray God shows me. Homosexuality is wrong and it's my duty to pray for these people and it's our duty, as God's people, to stand for what the Bible says."
Not only am I completely in shock that she posted this, I'm in shock at the number of people and who the people were that liked it and are in support of these same actions. There are numerous comments in agreement with it.
I feel like I just lost respect for half of my community.

Re: WITHOUT getting into the born with vs. choice...
I know plenty of local companys that pulled their adds from this paper because they decided to print this ...
People are turned off by disneyworld for having Gay Pride day....
People boycott stores all the time ... Target gets it cause they are a french company and do not support the miliary . Procter and Gamble had something about 10 years back as well ...
I dont know how I feel about this. I dont boycot movies that depict the life style but is that different then an ad campaign ? I love Randy on Say Yes to The Dress...
I'll think about it and post later I have housese to go look at... play nice ... jk ;p
A sin is a sin. If your going to boycott a store for its support of homosexuals, then you probably should just go ahead and boycott everything. You watch TV and I'm sure they might say a curse word in it, right? I sin, why not boycott my friendship as well...
I just feel that this is way too extreme and I also feel like it's throwing stones and others.
I believe that homosexuality is a sin, but like all sin, it can be forgiven if you ask for it and mean it.
Will this stop me from shopping at the only store with a petites department that ACTUALLY fits me? Heck no.

I'd rather see a FB like that than what a former co-worker posted: a pic of two shirtless guys embracing on a bed. I don't care if it's a guy and a guy or a guy and a girl - that sort of thing is not appropriate for FB!
And it goes further than homosexuals. What if a person in need of salvation saw that? IMO, it's not setting a good example. It's portraying Christians to be a gang of pitchfork carrying people who are going to stone you to death if you sin. Who would want to be a part of that?
I really wish you guys could see all the comments to this. One says "If you shop there, don't call yourself a Christian." Sadly there are 26 likes (as of now) to that comment.
Its this 'pitchfork' mentality regarding it that I don't understand. The act is a sin, yes. For years I fought an eating disorder. Choosing to harm the body that God gave me as an ideal was, in my eyes, a sin. Plenty of models partake in that sin, but we don't go chasing them with pitchforks (with the exception of the most extreme cases, then it can get controversial). I don't see people boycotting stores on a 'Christian stance' because they found out the models were using drugs, or drinking (I'm sure MANY of them do).
It comes back, for me, to the whole sin is equal, no sin is worse than the next. So why do we suddenly jump to the attack the second this one is brought up?

What does she propose we do with homosexuals? Refuse to employ them because doing so endorses their lifestyle? So homosexuals shouldn't be able to earn a living? Should they all be homeless and hungry? Is it our job as a society to smite people whose lifestyles we disagree with? Should we also have ever adulterer, alcoholic, or verbally abusive spouse fired? Should we not shop at stores that employ those people?
GIVE ME A BREAK! WHEN WILL IT END?
For the record, my brother is gay, and I love him with my entire heart and soul. It wasn't a choice. He cried when he came out to me and told me he didn't mean to be "like this". And I'm proud of him. He's a beautiful person inside and out. He's no more of a sinner than anyone else I know, gay or straight.
If you're (yes, I know, not YOU, OP) going to boycott JC Penney because they have people in their ads "who are sinners" by being gay then you'd better stop shopping anywhere. Good luck finding a store that only uses models who are modest, virgins before marriage, heterosexual, non-drinking, God-fearing, Bible-following, unjealous, non-sinning citizens.

Wait, wait. So you're telling me no one hires non-sinners? Dang! LOL, just kidding.
But, this is a very true point. We are all sinners in one way or another.
Buck up, accept the sins and move on.

[QUOTE]I thought I read that their advertising would be showing gay/lesbian couples , not that they are hiring peolple who are gay... That's a bit of a difference , did i read that wrong ??

Techinaically, those people are still hired....
The company can hire whoever they want and shouldn't discriminate of one's sexual preferences.
Either way, I don't want to hear about a heterosexual's sex life or a homosexual's sex life. It's just no one's business.

<div>I think her point was that they are being portrayed as gay in the ads. So it shows a family of two men and their children. Not just a gay guy modeling clothes. So its not that they are actually gay, but that lifestyle is being portrayed in their ads and she doesn't feel like bringing that example into her home. Does what I am saying make sense? </div><div>
</div><div>And no I don't agree with it, but that logic makes more sense to me than banning your children from reading books like Harry Potter, and Twilight which are obviously fictional and never meant to be anything else. </div>
