I normally wouldn't wear a costume to a wedding, no matter when it was, but those invites would definitely make me think costume. A nice costume, since its still a wedding, but a costume nevertheless.
  • Damn, I missed it!
  • Really, people?  Nobody quoted the OP?  You're slipping!

Also, OP, you were rude for deleting.

STUCK IN BOX!   My thoughts exactly, i was off the site for a few hours and missed everything :(

    RECAP:

OP posted that she's been engaged already for two years and that they aren't getting married for two more years. They've intentionally chosen the evening of Halloween 2015 because it's on a Saturday but, despite that and the fact that she wants to put pumpkins and bats on the invitations,  she doesn't want people to wear costumes.  She wanted to know how to tell guests that.

The best part, when she actually yelled, IT'S MY WEDDING! I CAN DO WHAT I WANT, thankfully, made it to quotes.

Then she went on to say they've already got the invitations ready to send to print... two years ahead of time... for the 200+ people they are inviting.  They already have the menu chosen.  And they'll be doing a cash bar.

It's a damn shame she DD'ed because this was poised to be one that made the history books.
  • Some much tackiness in one post/event! Holy jeez.
  • @wonderred - thank you! Good Lord.

    Poor thing.

Thanks for that recap...wonder if she is from one of those other wedding websites. *looks for similar thread on weddingwire and weddingbee and leaves with migraine after 10 minutes* Can't keep looking...If you do make it with GIF's I will award you bonus points and maybe even a cookie!

  • The original post wasn't that interesting, just asking how she can tell her guests not to wear costumes. The other stuff she said later was quoted.

Honestly by the sounds of it I'm not surprised.  If you are going to have your wedding on Halloween and then go on to use invitations that include bats and pumpkins I could see where is it an issue.  My FI sister was married on October 28th and they used a fromal wedding invitation with a white and dark blue color scheme and not one person at any point thought oh its a Halloween Wedding because its right before Halloween.

If she is so worried about people coming in custom she could change the date, change the invites (and mabye the colors a bit) and just undestand that people aren't as stupid as she thinks!  If got an invite that looked like it was for a costume party I would show up in a costume.  if it looks like a wedding invite I would show up in proper wedding attire.  YEESH some people

  • First, I would never wear a costume unless I was specifically told to wear a costume. I can't imagine anyone would actually wear a costume to a wedding--even if its held on Halloween--without explicitly being told it's a costume party.

A Halloween-themed invite definitely clinches that it's a "Halloween Wedding" and not a "Wedding on Halloween". If you love the spookiness of Halloween, there are plenty of ways to do that without the black-and-orange color combo and the bats and pumpkins. I actually think that would be a pretty cool wedding if it fit the couple--more like dark, romantic goth style.

I went to a wedding near Halloween one year. I don't remember the invites, but the bridesmaids wore black dresses, and had an orange shawl. And the bridal party entrance music was Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and they all wore white gloves decorated with cobwebs or something as they came in dancing. It's not something that I would do, but it was cute, and it touched on the Halloween aspect without going overboard.

One thing to keep in mind for a Halloween wedding is basically anyone with kids will be taking them trick-or-treating that evening! Honestly, I can't imagine skipping that for a wedding.

Yeah the only interesting thing in the OP was that she didn't want "someone in a slutty costume taking attention away from her"
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!
  • Because obviously her relatives will come in slutty costumes to celebrate together and meet the groom's family for the first time.... My personal favorite is a slutty shark. The only thing I'm worried about is the white boots - it's the majority of the costume, so technically I'm wearing white to the wedding. whatthefuckever.

Omg. This is the most amazing slutty Halloween costume I have ever seen.

Only if the invites specified "SCO: Slutty Costumes Optional"

But if they say "SCO" do I bring out my slutty best? Or just my usual slutty attire? It's confusing for me as a guest. I would much rather know straight up if it's "Slutty costumes" versus "Slutty costumes optional" or "Slutty costumes invited".

Me too.  I would hate to be the only one not in a slutty costume, or worse, the only one IN a slutty costume.
