Guest Welcome Bags- how to?...

Hello!

My fiancé and I are getting married in Jamaica next March. We are having 20 guests attend our wedding. When the guests arrive I'd like the resorts front desk to give our guests a welcome bag with little beach goodies (ChapStick, sunscreen, palm tree bottle opener, etc...?)

How can I get the bags there and know they'll be the way I want them? I thought about packing it all in my suitcase. Should I talk with the wedding coordinator? Its so hard planning something when I'm so far away!! Has anyone else done this or know what to do...?

Thanks so much.
Nikki

Re: Guest Welcome Bags- how to?...

  • I did welcome bags for my guests. We had two suitcases - one with all our clothes, etc. and the other had all the welcome bags for the guests.

Each welcome bag had the guest's name on them. We left the welcome bags at the front desk of the hotel so that each guest will get one at check in.

  • We actually created the bags on location - which was doable because we came in a whole week before the wedding. The hotel had a list of names and handed out the bags for us. I'm guessing your wedding coordinator could give you more details of what the hotel will / will not do for you. You might even be able to just ship all of the stuff instead of having to pack/carry it there.
  • We brought all of the stuff in our luggage and assembled them once we got to the resort and dropped them off with our wedding planner (each bag had a tag with full legal name of the guest), and they were delivered to our guests as they checked-in.  We had 30 bags to assemble, and we did it in about 20 minutes, so it's totally doable.

We looked into shipping options, but it was SO much more than paying for extra luggage ($200 versus $50).  Plus, our resort would only accept shipments if it was within a week of the wedding, and I was really nervous that something would get lost or delayed.

We just made sure that the luggage with the items was one that fit into one of the others we had, so we didn't have to carry around and pay for an empty bag on our way home.

  • We are shipping everything out to our wedding coordinator and handing out the bags at a welcome dinner & drinks event being held 2 nights before the wedding.
