Wedding Woes

AHS-actual discussion

Did everyone watch yet?

Thoughts?

Mine:

I liked this one the best so far, not so WTF that I was freaked out a la last year, but not so bland that I couldn't keep watching.

I lurrrve the filming style, fishlens, etc.  I am even MORE excited about this year than I was before I watched it.

Also, I kept watching Kathy Bates and thinking about Waterboy.  *ugh*

Re: AHS-actual discussion

  • I thought the first episode was good.  The first couple are always about setup, so I know it's really going to get good.

I have really been talking AHS up to DH so he decided to watch with me.  I need him to watch the first season, which I liked better than the second.

  • I am the same Taw, I loved the 1st about 3x as much as the 2nd.  I lost interest with the 2nd, I think around the 4th or 5th episode.
  • I also liked first season more than 2nd, though there are things I adore about 2nd season.

I had at least 3 jaw drops and about 34 OMGs throughout.  The minotaur scene freaked me out, badly.  And I didn't think Kathy Bates' and Angela Bassett characters were contemporaries. I keep meaning to go re-read some things to find out.  Also, there was a helluva lot of social issues that made me flinch in this one, but at least they handled them with what felt like no bias, just an unflinching look at the horror.

I hope this isn't it for Lily Rabe.  We were talking about if she could use her gift on herself.

I think Voodoo Queen must get called back to life b/c Madame Serial Killer is back in the land of the living.  We were doing guesses at the spread of dead bodies for the season.  I'm already going to lose, I had only guessed 12 and the bus accident took out over half of that.
  • Oh and the witch lines were killing me.

"Don't make me drop a house on you" and when they called the young girl Sabrina.  (I don't have everyone's names down yet).

Also, I adore Sarah Poulson as a blonde and the line, "When are you going to die and stop ruining my life" was flawless.
  • I was thinking that about Lily Rabe too, I love her flowy characters, just so very blase, but strong at the same time.

I love Jessica Lange, she is such a bitch, and without regard for anyone.  And someone you are made to love her regardless.

And WOW, yeah, about the whole slavery thing...holy hell.  I was also loving the vapid celebrity character...though it seems kind of cliche.

And sex as a way to blow someone's head up?!  Wow.  Interesting topic there.

What else?  Oh oh OH!  I love that they reused Jamie Brewer as Nan.  So many reused actors.  WHEE!
  • I like Jamie Brewer being back, but it feels a bit wrong to me.  You know, like the Magic Negro role?  This feels like Magic Disability child role.  I wish she's been a bad ass, fireball witch.  I feel like that would've been more interesting.

I LOVED Gabourey Sidibe and her character.  Again, it's stereotyped.  The whole, "I'm a voodoo doll!" had my dying.

Sometimes, trying to be all socially conscious about stereotypes can ruin things for me.  I just remind myself that as long as I see them and recognize them and try not to internalize them, I'm doing better.

And now, on Wednesdays, I shall wear black.  :D
  • Good call on Black Wednesdays.

I'm making the assumption that the stereotypes are intentional, and it's a setup for later character development.

Why were you so freaked by the Minotaur, and did you take it as an actual incantation ceremony, or just figurative?
  • I figured Lily Rabe would somehow have a part in bringing Evan Peters back to life.
  • I have a thing about not being able to breathe.  It makes me very anxious and you know that guy had to suffocate to death with that head on him.  *shudder*  Just figurative, but horrible, horrible way to die.

Lily's character was set on fire, so I'm just assuming that she's not actually dead, just...burnt up?

They definitely set up a lot of questions for the upcoming season.  :)
  • I didn't even GET that he suffocated.
  • Y'all already know I had to flip a few times , but it's going to be a good season. I love seeing parts of New Orleans.

  • Oh and work BF, the young one?  He said, "OMG, Molly Brown from Titanic is in it?!".  I had to think a moment.  Wow that Kathy Bates is defined by Titanic for a generation instead of, say, Misery, Fried Green Tomatoes, Primary Colors, etc.

    Misery -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Titanic.
  • LOL.  Awesome.

And here I am thinking of Mama Boucher from Waterboy.

    FAIL.

At least he didn't say "Jo from The Office".

They were. Marie Laveau the first born in 1784 died in 1881. Madame Lalaurie was born in 1775 and died approx 1842.
  • OOohhh boy.  See, I had no idea these were real people.  *SHAME SHAME*
  • Yes, real people. I never understood why people would go on cemetery tours in nola. For what? But, Marie Laveau's tomb is one of the most popular in the city.

  • Yeah, it's definitely creepy NOLA, but some people love creepy stuff.

Same reason people go on the cemetery tours in Sleepy Hollow, NOLA. Creep factor. I like going to old cemeteries because I love looking at the tombstones and inscriptions/designs.

Pere Lachaise was one of my favorite things that we did when in Paris.
