Re: Let's get inked!

  • None for me and I will keep it that way.  Not a fan of needles, so the sound alone would always make me squeamish.  I contemplated getting an anchor when I was in college (my sorority symbol) but just could not see me wanting it on me forever.

  • I think the new tattoo is going to a be post wedding gift to myself. The tattoo that I already have was a belated bday gift from FI a few years ago.

  • I have a half sleeve with traditional style sailor tattoos for my grandpa who was in the navy during WWII. I have my foot tattooed with a traditional style pin up girl with a banner that says "American Nightmare", it's my favorite misfits song. I have a tattoo on my thigh that takes up about the entire upper portion, it's a tiger that says "never die"-my FI and I have matching ones in the same spot-it's a favorite sonf of one of our favorite bands. I have a neck tattoo of a bow, which was a "friendship" tattoo that I got with one of my old roomates. I also have my entire side tattooed-it's a skull with roses that says "our love will live in the afterworld". One that I wanted and my FI paid for for me, yet another song and favorite band, plus ya know, being in love and all that.

My first tattoo is a lower back tattoo that says hell yes, heavens now, with two pin up girls, one a devil and the other one has 4 leaf clover boobs, haha.

FI is covered-literally. He doesn't have neck or knuckle tattoos but has them everywhere else.

Yes, I still like all of mine, even the first one.

    1. Do you have one? If so, how many? I have 3 and more in the works for after the weddings, I'm an addict
    1. What is it? 1. taurus symbol with 5 stars around it 2. shooting star trails with one big swirl star and says reach for the stars in German 3. Says "trust believe dream dare" in  cursive with a heart in between each word
    2. Where is it? 1. Inner right ankle 2. left hip (wraps around to back barely) 3. inner left foot along the arch
    3. Does it mean anything? 1. It is my zodiac symbol and it very much describes me. The five stars represent May (5th month) 2. I got it while in college (well I got them all in college) but it truly just means to never settle for less, reach for the stars. My degree is in German so that's why it is in German.. I wanted something I only knew the meaning of. 3. It is my motto to live by. I don't always live by it though which gets me in trouble.

A peace sign with vines on my left shoulder.
An angel on my right hip/lower stomach.
The scales on the back of my neck (for my Zodiac sign, Libra)
And a small tribalish (but not really) on the middle of my back.
    They all have meaning.

    1. Do you have one? If so, how many? I have 9 tattoos.
    2. What is it? Well, here we go, lol. I'll go in order of when I got them. My first tattoo is a ladybug. I got it on a dare because my ex-husband (we were married at the time) told me I'm too chicken-shit to get one. Well, I did it, lol. It's on my hip/pelvis area. I was afraid my mom would see it (even though I was 23!) so I put it there. I still don't think she knows about that one, lol. My second tattoo is a Magnolia blossom between my shoulder blades on my back. I got that one to symbolize home. I was living in Georgia at the time because that's where my ex-husband was stationed. I was missing home something fierce, so I got something to symbolize my home state. My third tattoo is a purple and gold fleur-de-lis on my right foot. That hurt like a b**ch! I got that one to, again, symbolize my home state as well as my alma mater! GEAUX TIGERS! My fourth tattoo is a a row of large stars that span from my left shoulder all the way to my lower left ribs. Each star represents a member of my family, as they are colored in with each person's birth stone. I still haven't gotten that one completed because it hurt so badly, lol. My fifth tattoo is a red hummingbird with a pink carnation on my upper right outer thigh by my hip. That one represents my grandmother who passed away. She collected hummingbird figurines and always had hummingbird feeders at her house, and then pink flowers were her absolute favorite. My sixth tattoo is a phrase on my left foot that says "It was then that you carried me." This tattoo is the last line of the "Footprints in the Sand" poem. I have been through a lot of difficult things in my life, and through it all, God has walked with me. My seventh tattoo is a swirly red heart on my stomach. Honestly, that one was a mistake, lol. My eighth tattoo is on my wrist. It says "John 14:1-4. All of it" This tattoo is the most meaningful one that I have. I was previously engaged to another man and we were so in love. 6 months before our wedding, he took his own life. He had the Bible verse John 14:1-4 marked in his Bible. "All of it" was something that we told each other when we would say "I love you.... How much?.... All of it." My ninth tattoo is also in memory of him. I saw a spiritual reader who told me that love goes on for infinity. He told me that just because my ex is on the other side, doesn't mean his love for me dissolved, it still exists. In fact, on the other side, there is an infinite amount of love that we cannot comprehend on this side. So my ninth tattoo is on my right rib cage (kinda by my boob, lol) and it's an infinity sign with the word "love."

I think I have plans for about 10 more tattoos. Whether I will get them or not, that's another thing, lol.

  • I have 6 tattoos, so far ;)

My first one I got when I was 18. Its a swirly heart that I designed and its behind my ear.

My second tattoo is a rosary on my shoulder blade, because I'm Catholic and also because it reminds me of my momma.

My third tattoo is an anchor and a wave that I drew. My best friend also got an anchor. We got it because it symbolizes our friendship. He has been the only constant thing in my life.

My fourth tattoo is an abstract/Tim Burton inspired skeleton key on the outside of my wrist that I drew. I collect skeleton keys.

My fifth tattoo is a raven sitting on a branch on my inner bicep. I'm a huge Edgar Allan Poe fan.

and my sixth tattoo is a compass on my shoulder/deltoid. I got it when I was going through a divorce to symbolize a new direction in life.

ta-daaaaaa. Those are my tattoos...I'm getting one in December as my birthday present :)

i could've sworn i replied to this ages ago...

i have 2. an interpretation of the symbol of the Guarding Dark from Terry Pratchett's Thud! on my left shoulder blade (well, just above). it's from the Mine Sign "language" and it basically represents that part of you that is strong enough to resist the urge to take revenge and wallow in your anger, the inner "watchman". and a bird silhouette with "but sing their hearts out for us" as its flight trail on my right forearm. the quote is from To Kill a Mockingbird, and it's a reminder that i don't have the right to judge others but neither do they have the right to judge me, that prejudice is one of the worst cancers in our world, and that just because something is popular doesn't mean it's right.

i have about 3 more planned, but they're on hold until after the wedding because money sucks. i want to get a willow tree on my left wrist, a cherry branch with an open birdcage hanging off it and two birds flying out going from behind my right ear to the back of my neck, and "Allons-y" in Gallifreyan on my right ankle...

It was the most devastating thing I have ever been through. However, I can tell you it taught me that love is so powerful. I chose to live for him and I promised him when he died that I would live the way he taught me to. I also have something so exciting to look forward to when it's my turn to go. I no longer fear much. Weirdly, I also never cry anymore. I've been to the depth of my sadness and nothing else seems to touch me that way anymore. I am so blessed to have known him, and even more humbled to know that I was the one that loved him for the rest of his life. How awesome God is to have given me the privilege of being loved by him.

I could go on and on.... I am even more blessed that my current fiance knows all this, loves me, and respects all that I've been through. I am a lucky lady, indeed!!

    1. Do you have one? If so, how many?
      I have 9!
    2. What is it?
In order of when I got them: "Love is patient" (right hip(, "Love is kind" (left hip), A mermaid sitting on an anchor (left shoulder), a bird flying out of a birdcage (right thigh), an orange self-injury ribbon (left wrist), an octopus wearing an eyepatch and hearts around it (right shoulder), birds taking off into flight (left lower back), "believe" (below my right inner elbow), and my most recent, an anchor with a ships wheel and banner saying "A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for" (between my shoulderblades.) It was designed by my fiancé and still needs shaded in.
    3. Where is it?
      (See above.)
    4. Does it mean anything?
Everything but the mermaid and octopus means something or was gotten at a significant time in my life.
  • I have one, on my left shoulder blade. It is a thick outline of a star. It has no meaning. I just think it's cool.
    1. Do you have one? If so, how many?
    2. What is it?
    3. Where is it?
    4. Does it mean anything?
    Now I can answer :)

    1. Yes, I have one.
    2. "Be Still"
    3. Inner left wrist
    4. My husband and I were on the verge of divorce and God told me Be Still. We are now renewing our vows and Exodus 14:14 and Psalms 46:10 have had great meaning for us.

    Married 11/12/05 ~ Renewed Our Vows 11/9/13.

"The LORD will fight for you, you need only be still."

  • 1.  Right hip.  2 violets, and a mum with vines entwined all around them.  (the flowers are my daughter, my son and I birth flowers.)  There are also 3 stars in it.

    2.  Left posterior shoulder.  Scottish luckenbooth.  Im scottish, so imagine a scottish claddaugh in a way.  I got it because I love the symbolism behind it.

    3.  Left inner wrist.  infinity symbol with 5 dots of color in it.  one dot for each of the people in our family in their birth stone color.

My next tattoo will be a compass and a feather and will be worked into the existing one on my right hip.

My FI and I compete for whos turn it is for ink.  He has at least 13 tattoos, and is planning for his half sleeves now.  Once he retires, his entire arms will be covered.
  • I have 3.

A blue rose on my left hip.  I got that one just because I wanted a tattoo, but if I decided I didn't like it, I didn't have to SEE it all the time.  I'd like to get it touched up and changed to purple.

My second is a unicorn with a rose clenched in it's teeth with some special symbols added to it which have meaning to me on my inner left ankle.

My third one is a 3 leaf celtic-style clover on my right ass cheek.  One, I'm Irish.  Two, when people piss me off, I tell them to "Kiss my lucky charm!"  Three, I never get pinched on St. Patrick's Day, because I'm always wearing green.  :)

    I want another one.

Not sure if anyone's read Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel" series, but I want a marque from House Valerian as a backpiece.  FI doesn't want me to have an entire back piece.  :(  I'm still working on him though!!

I remember reading those books and thinking what an awesome idea that would be for a tattoo. I loved the symbolism behind a marque.

I have 2. One is a type of rose between my shoulder blades that at the time meant something to me but now just means "I'm 18 and can get a tattoo!" and the other says "Stronger Than You Think I Am" and wraps around my right ankle in fancy script. I absolutely love it, it's my reminder that no matter how many crappy moments occur, I can get through them because I have more strength than I realize.

I have plans for at least two more but they're far away. I'd love to get "Elephant shoes" in small pretty script on my side (think where your bra covers) because that's what FI and I say to each other. I'd also eventually like to get something to symbolize my (eventual) children.

FI has one down his ribs, script of his dog's name, for his "child" for 10 years.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I have 6. They all have special meaning to me and got them at different points in my life.

    1. On my left wrist is a heart with a treble cleff inside using negative space.  Its my reminder of my high school experience.

    2. On my right foot is Hakuna Matata.  It's a tattoo my best friend got together out of high school and now she's my Maid of Honor!

    3. On the back of my neck is a triforce.  It is from a video game that my cousins and I played all throughout our childhood together and the three of us all have the same tattoo.

    4. On my right side I have the Hogwarts school motto from Harry Potter.  I have loved HP from the age of 8 and reading the books are what inspired me to be the reader that I am today.

    5. On my back I have "Don't turn your back. Don't walk away. And don't blink. Good luck" written on my back in Gallifreyan. The picture below is a little bit what my tattoo looks like.  This one was a gift from my FIs (though he was my BF at the time) brother in law who owns his own shop.  This one is the only one thats purely because I have a love of all things Doctor Who.

    6. My most recent (definitely not last) one is on the inside of my upper right arm. It just says "Always". This one is also from Harry Potter.. but the point in the book it is from signifies love. My FI got a tattoo of the same meaning but completely different from mine at the same time...

I have plans for many more and can't  wait to find a dress that just glorifies all my (clearly visible) tattoos!!

I have two - a mockingjay from the Hunger Games on my right forearm and an open book with Once Upon a Time written on it on my inner left wrist.

    Wedding Black & White, Sepia
  • I have three

    1. I got it when I turned 18, It's on my collar bone and it says "I'll be seeing you" with half of a heart. In the move The Notebook, my favorite scene is when the two of them are at the nursing home dancing right before she looses her memory again. The song playing in the backround is called "I'll be seeing you." I got it to be special between my future husband and I, I was going to have the heart finished when I got married. The funny thing is, I ended up marrying a man that hates tattoos! I'm still going to finish the heart now that I'm married though. The only problem is, most tattoo shops have a minimum price and I can't fathom spending 30-40 for just a little line, no bigger than the length of half my pinky. Maybe I'll see if my husband would care if I got just a little something on my foot, so I'm getting my moneys worth.

    2. Number two and three go together but I count them as 2 because there is one on the inside of each wrist. I hate both of them and I'm not proud of myself for not thinking it through. I met a boy that wanted to take me on a date, he told me that we could go anywhere I wanted/do anything I wanted and I said ok I want to get a tattoo. Hah. I gave it no thought. It's "Wild" and "Free", one on each wrist with a bird, and when you put my wrists together it looks like the birds are flying together. (Smacks forehead and rolls eyes). The guy like taped them up with gauze and black tape over it. I snuck into bed before my parents noticed and when my mom woke me up in the morning I tried to hide my arms under the covers but she saw. She knew I had gone out on a date the night before so she freaked out thinking the black tape on my wirsts was from his tying me up for sex or something. Thanks mom, for thinking your 19 year old daughter would do something like that lol.

  • I have 5, and a 6th in mind.

    1) Right ankle- itty bitty ladybug (to show my mom that I was 18 and could do what I wanted)

    2) Left ankle- Cross

    3) Back of neck right below hair line- Breast cancer awareness ribbon (pink)

    4) Right chest (high enough to be seen over tank top)- Matching celtic friendship symbol with my 3 best bitches :)

    5) Left chest- Cancer ribbon (lavendar for all cancers) says faith, hope, love

And my #6 will be a celtic knot with my two sisters.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I have 13.

    1. Right Wrist: breast cancer ribbon with "be strong" in white ink, for my mom.
    2. Left Wrist: "just breathe."
    3. Right Foot: Cherry blossoms & daisies, with a lady bug, and my friends initials (she passed away due to leukemia.)
    4. Left Foot: purple orchids.
    5. Right Ribs: alis volat propriis (she flies with her own wings)
    6. Right lower back: orange koi
    7. Right side of back from hip to shoulder blade: branch of cherry blossoms
    8. Middle lower back: spider chrysanthemum
    9. Left lower back: pink lotus
    10. Middle upper back: Blue nautical star with latitude & longitude coordinates of my parents house.
    11. Left shoulder blade: dandelion puff, blowing away & turning into birds that fly under my arm to the inside of my bicep
    12. Behind left ear: feather that I got with @livleighton
    13. Right foot, inside under ankle bone: Boston Red Sox "B" logo I just got after they won the World Series.

I technically have 14 - the spider chrysanthemum in the middle of my back covers up my very first tattoo - the Godsmack sun logo I got when I was 19.

I have many more in the works :)

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers

  • I've got three:
    1. A shooting star cluster on my left shoulder blade. It has four stars and in the future I want to add my future children's names to the stars
    2. The Chinese characters for "Passion" on my right wrist. My dad tells people it means "18 and stupid". I got it when I was a senior in high school and going through a really hard time.
    3. The quote "When words fail, music speaks" on my left forearm. My brother and I grew up learning to play instruments. Between playing and listening, music is a big part of my life.

I don't regret any of my tattoos, despite getting two of them while in highschool. I've gotten the itch to get another, but really doubt I ever will.
    image
  • I have two. A small one on my back that I got when I was 19had the Hebrew letters aleph hay yud hay. A larger one covering my right upper arm I got after my divorce. It's "the alphabet of creation" by Ben Shahn.
"I wish yo azz all tha dopest up in yo' marriages"
  • I have four.
My first one is a duck on my right shoulder blade.  I wasn't even legally old enough, but my mom lied about my age for me to get it!  I've always loved ducks and actually my best friend (who I met many many years later) has a duck tattoo in the same spot, so it connects us in a strange way!
My second takes up my left side from my ribs to my hips.  It's two giraffes and a tree, and in the taller giraffe's spots is a 23 and in the smaller giraffe's spot is an 18.  It's a tattoo for my mom (her birthday is Aug. 23rd, mine Nov. 18th).  When I was really young, my brother went on a zoo field trip and brought me back a postcard of a giraffe and ever since they've been my favorite animal.
My third is a large black eyed susan on my right foot.  It is the state flower for Maryland, and I have a lot of pride for my home state.
My fourth is script on my left forearm.  It's a line from Garth Brooks' "The Dance" with my grandparents' anniversary date under.  My brother is a Garth Brooks impersonator and sings that song for my Poppop (he passed away in 2010 right after their 50th anniversary) at all of his shows.  I love this one the most because I was always super close with my Mommom and Poppop (my Mommom and I are essentially the same soul and I was always Poppop's little angel growing up).  When I got the tattoo this past January (right before their anniversary) and I showed my Mommom, she was incredibly touched and the look on her face made it worth it. :)
    FI doesn't have any tattoos.
