Alright so heres the process for those interested :)

Im a GIANT chicken. I dont like needles/pain/etc. I was excited but nervous about it all but set on doing it. I researched a ton on aftercare and wrist tattoos in general. I watched You Tube videos to get an idea on pain and even the sound of the machine. I went yesterday and got Bacitracin, Dove Unscented and Curel Unscented. I told myself since i bought that stuff i was in it now. :) I even bought OJ because i heard it can help healing, lol.

Today I woke up nervous but excited. I did research taking a Vicodin before hand and I did take 1. I took 1 -30min beforehand. (I will tell you it did NOTHING for the pain but it calm me down!).

I arrived at the shop and someone else was getting a tattoo so they had the machine going, which made me feel so much better. Still nervous but made me feel better. I also ate lunch before i left (sandwich and goldfish) because i heard it can prevent you from passing out.

I had already told the artist I wanted Be Still on my inner left wrist so she had a few fonts drawn up but i didnt really like how they looked more fancy than simple. She took out some loopy-ness to the Ls and made it more simple.

She had me lay down on my back and she started. Now I will tell you when she started I was FINE. It did NOT hurt. It didnt tickle but it didnt hurt. It did feel like "scratching"/"poking" closer to the middle of my wrist. BUT when she got to my right side of my wrist, I could have easily cussed and maybe grabbed the bed a little hard. It didnt last because she was moving quickly, but it felt more like the skin ripping some people talked about. Unpleasant but not unbearable. Not fun. The whole tat took seriously 5-10 minutes. She was fast. Im SOOOO happy. I was able to talk through it all, i had to pause at a few points but when she noticed it hurt she sort of moved and talked to me to keep me distracted.

Would you believe afterward, i thought " That was easy, i want to do it again"? :)

I left on the saran wrap for 2hrs (although she recommended taking it right off and washing every hour, but i cant do that with 4 dogs, 1 cat and 3 kids. Then i washed it with the Dove, patted dry and applied the Bac. I have left it unwrapped (until tonight and for tonight only).

Overall? IM SOOO GLAD I DID IT! Its so out of my element and not like me.

  • I'm too much of a chicken to get one done.  And I don't really have the desire either.  But bravo to you!  Do you have pics?  Nothing came through on your post.

  • It looks good! @WedReMix13 do you think it hurt more where the letter "B" is more than anything else? I also have a tattoo inside my left wrist and I know I was gripping my chair with my other hand when it got to that point. I think the tendon running along that side is why it hurt.
  • @88beautymarked Actually no for me- She was finished with the "Be" and i didnt even know it until she said " and youre 1/2 way through your first tattoo". It was the top of the letter T and the Ls that hurt the worse! That was the pulling/scraping part. As if my cat has took his claw and scratched me really deep- that stingy/pulling feeling.

  • Congrats! Tattoos are addicting! I started small and now I have 6! All ones that can be covered by a t shirt though :) mostly my back! I like the phrase, I don't think I've seen it tattooed before and I love that!! Way better then the "shhhh" on the pointer finger! :D
  • Love it!!!! So what ya getting next? LOL
  • LOVE it! Totally gorgeous!

I have to say, I think you're incredibly brave for getting a wrist tattoo as your 1st.

  • katieg520 I dont know. I want to wait a bit to get my next but im thinking something for the baby we lost.

clairekundinger I saw a few on Pinterest. Some had the rest of the verse though or the whole verse. I just wanted Be Still since that is what God told me and also a summary of both verses.

urbaneca I had heard the wrist can be painful, thank you for saying im brave.

Day 2 and 3 of healing and it looks good :)

    As for my aftercare regimen:
Day 1: Waited 2hrs and took off wrap. Washed and used bacitracin about 3-4x. Wrapped at night with Nexcare waterproof bandages (knee and elbow).
Day 2: Washed and used Bac when needed. Wrapped with Nexcare again.
Day 3: Showered and started using Curel Unscented lotion. I dont think Ill wrap it tonight.

  • I have a small infinity symbol with 5 colored dots (one dot and color= the birth stone color of each in our family) on my left inner wrist.  It was the least painful of my tattoos.  I have one on my right hip, and a larger one on my left shoulder.  The shoulder near my armpit on my back was by far the most painful spot.

Once you get a tattoo, its hard to stop.
  • its very very itchy today. ugh

Congrats! It looks great! I'll give you a hint.. when it itches- smack it. Sounds weird and it is weird, but the sting takes the itch away. If you can't smack yourself (which I couldn't for some because it was just weird) let your child, Fi, friend anyone... everyone enjoyed smacking my tattoos lol. Also A&D ointment will help with it as well. Remember not to pick scabs (if you have any.. I've only had it on one of my three tattoos)

  • Its itchy today too. Its not itchy to the point where i need to scratch, just annoying.

I have an idea for my next tattoo already. Water color with Belle Chaos written in it. Im thinking my shoulder (front or back I havent decided yet). Im going to wait for a bit (maybe around Christmas)

  • Ink is so addicting!  I'm up to 9 now and the worst by far were a tie: my right shoulderblade area and the rose above my left elbow.  Oh.My-lanta.  I cried through those two.  I have ones on the outsides of each ankle and everyone told me that those would hurt so incredibly much.  They were so very tolerable, I couldn't believe it.  My upper back and arm ones are going to show in my wedding gown and pictures but I look at them every day anyway so I don't really care.  The guy who did my last ones (the rose and left ankle one) taught me what a great artist is so now I'm much more picky about who I'll go to.  If I could, I'd only go back to him for the rest of my life.  I love that healing itch so much.  Means its healing (duh), and that the time consuming (and occasionally awkward) aftercare time is almost over!  Nothing like having to undo pants, practically take off shirt and bra in the bathroom at work to have a coworker help clean it.  Glad you love yours!  You should always love it.
  • I had a tattoo on the back of my neck which I loved, but ended up getting it removed to join the Air Force. I'll tell ya, the pain from getting it removed was a billion times worse than getting it tattooed. So at least you love it and don't have to go through the removal process. :)

I'm getting my next tattoo this weekend, and I'm super excited.

  • RedJacks25 What are you getting?

Does the BACK Shoulder hurt or the FRONT shoulder hurt worse? Like if i thought my wrist was a 4, what would a shoulder be? (with shading and writing involved).

  • Pain levels vary from person to person, so it's difficult to say. No body is exactly alike.

I got a tattoo just above my shoulder blade and I thought it was around a 6. In comparison my forearm silhouette was a 3. The artist of the forearm tat said that in her experience people she'd done had usually found it the other way around. The WRITING on my forearm was an 8 or 9 though.

It also does depend on the design you choose, the skill of your artist (to some extent), the speed at which they work, and the gauge of needle involved. The smaller the needle, the more it'll hurt - which is why my writing (a delicate small script) hurt more than any other ink I've had done.

  • RedJacks25 What are you getting?

I'm getting the drawing of Simba that Rafiki draws in the Lion King. I'm very excited! I'm still contemplating placement, but it will probably be on my back between my shoulder blades.

I would think the front would hurt more because of your collar bone, but i can only speak to the back. I have a pisces symbol with koi fish...

smalfrie19 I was leaning more towards the back but i didnt know because of the shoulder blade bone.
urbaneca I think she would have to use a bigger needle than she did with my wrist since the writing will be different and there will be shading.

    ETA:
My tatt seems to be healing/healed well. No more itch or anything.
