Our wedding was at a country club in NH on a Sunday. Leading up to the event, it was supposed to be bright, sunny and 70 deg. The fall foliage backdrop and beautiful grounds is half of why we booked the venue and paid extra for an outdoor ceremony. It rained. I cried for 2 hours.
Now, my first lesson learned is that nothing like this will matter....at all...because as upset as I was about things not going as planned, it was the perfect day. As soon as I walked down the aisle and saw my (now) husband, I was just happy.
We had elements from both our interests to make it our own. He's a giant Red Sox fan, we had baseball e-pics at the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox owned team), Red Sox Precious Moments were placed near our guest "book", which was a baseball jersey with our last name and wedding date on it. Our wedding party entered to "Love that Dirty Water" and our cake cutting song was "Sweet Caroline" (both Red Sox related songs). I had some Muppet "guests", I walked down to a guitar instrumental of "Rainbow Connection" and we were introduced to "Mahna Mahna".
We wrote our own vows and it was funny and emotional. I'm kind of goofy and there were plenty of opportunities to make a few jokes during the day like when I saw a golf cart and wanted some photos of us where I pretended to try to chase him in it, or when I put a napkin on him as a bib before I fed cake (but we were nice!). My husband uses a wheelchair and we hired a choreographer for our first dance....it came out really great! The speeches were amazing, I'm so thankful.
Food was good, we had a brunch with a limited open bar (mimosa, bloody marys, wine, sparkling wine, beers and soft drinks) with an orange juice toast.
One of our highlights was hiring a caricaturist (which I made a whole post about). It was so fun, I highly recommend to anyone. People keep talking to us about it.
No regrets - really glad that we gave the DJ the must play songs on a CD as backup, that we gave the photographer a list of "must have shots", that we had a sweetheart table (it gave us time to be together), and that we let the DOC with the venue have more control than I would normally be comfortable with. She made it so easy.
I'll add some photos in a few.
