Pleasantly Surprised

We attended a friend's wedding two years ago and booked the same venue. We visited the venue for the first time last week since her wedding. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the chairs they provide aren't the ugly brown metal folding chairs I (falsely) remembered, but really lovely white wooden chairs. Also, there is a room I didn't know about called the Saloon. It's basically a sunroom with a huge bar in it. Score!

Was there anything that pleasantly surprised you about your venue?

Re: Pleasantly Surprised

  • Nothing pleasantly surprised me about my venue as I went to it at least once a year when I was a child because of church. BUT my fiance never saw it until this summer and he loved it. He especially liked that the bar is huge and off to the side. The dance floor is also huge. The whole place has a great view of their lake and gazebo :) Can't wait to take a sunset picture at the gazebo :0)

  • Maybe they rented the chairs or paid extra for them.

  • Included color linens.  For the price we were paying for the venue, I was surprised that by "included linens" they meant a whole range of colors, not just white.  That was pretty much the only happy surprise I got from them.
  • It has a tour of the mansion that is used during cocktail hour during the reception. And I have use of the master bedroom to get ready in, and if the men clean up after themselves, during cocktail hour, the guests will have access to a billiard's room.

  • The new venue that we booked about 4 days from the wedding date had a cool grooms room. It had a pool table, fooseball table and a mini bar. It was wayyy better than the brides room! That had a nice couch and mirrors. I'd rather have the pool table!
  • I was also happily surprised that our venue included coloured linens as well.
  • After booking, our venue updated all of their flooring! The old flooring wasn't awful, but it was starting to show some wear. The new stuff is great.

  • We got married at my in-laws' yard, and I was really pleasantly surprised when they said we could use the bathrooms in the house and took care of making them nice and putting up signs and stuff. Saved us about $1000 in toilet rentals, and was extraordinarily generous. My mother-in-law also took it on herself to do a lot of gardening, which was totally unnecessary, but made everything lovely.

Upgraded chairs that are gorgeous and stone walls that make beautiful back drops for photos! Plus super amazing back up plans in case of rain. My ceremony is outside with the reception inside. Another great thing I learned was the coordinator there is a gem. She is known around town and as I am new to the area it was nice to hear word of mouth reviews!

and the fact that they run the food and drinks from your cocktail hour to you while you take pictures. I'm pretty much over the moon with the venue.
  • The weddings before and after mine at my venue both had purchased up lighting/draping package for behind the head table, so they left them up in between and we got to have them for no charge
