  • Either would be okay if it can fit in a carry-on.

To be ok in a carry on they have to be in a one quart clear plastic bag.  Personally, my liquid/gel bag is usually full and I wouldn't have room for a bottle or wine let alone 2 bottles of cooking supplies.  If people aren't checking luggage then their liquid/gel bag will most likely be full of their toiletries.

  • I would love both, but I agree that these might all be problematic for guests who are flying.
Also, are there restrictions for taking alcohol in luggage?
  • If you have OOT guests who are flying in, the red wine might be appreciated in the hotel gift bag. That way they have a little something to sip throughout the weekend and while getting ready for the big day.

(Sorry, we cocktail it up before wedding ceremonies in my crowd, depending on the time :)

  • I hate red wine and I have plenty of olive oil and balsamic vinegar in my house.

I think edible favors that your guests will either eat as a snack on the way home from your wedding or as a snack the next day are the best kind.  Like a cookie or two, a chocolate bar, some locally made candy, etc are always welcomed and liked by the masses.

  • I've never known anyone (myself, family, friends) to be called out on carrying alcohol in one's luggage.

Agreed that wine or oil would not be allowed as a carry on- too much liquid.
  • Alcohol as long as it is under the 3 oz. mark and less than 70% ABV is allowed in carry-on luggage (so long as it fits in your quart sized bag with your other liquids). OP said the olive oil/ vinegar would be 2.5 oz bottles so they would be allowed in carry-on luggage.  Even still, I wouldn't go with any of these. Too much potential to break and become a mess, and too much potential to be a hassle with security despite meeting the requirements.

  • Thank you for all of the insight about airplane travel guidelines! I rarely fly, so knowing all this really changes my perspective.

  • I know I said this before, but I'd rather the bride and groom forgo favors and upgrade the bar or the food.

  • If I weren't flying, the oil and vinegar, and if I were flying, neither. When I pack small bottles for my carry-on, I'm usually maxed out with toiletries and probably wouldn't have room in that tiny bag for anything else.
  • I would say the oil and vinegar.  Wine is one where for me and those I know people's taste's just vary so much.  I for one will only drink sweet wine yet I know people who will only drink dry.  At least with the oil and vinegar they are more or less similar.  (You never hear someone say "Oh, I only eat a sweet olive oil.")  Plus, while guests could always re-gift the wine as well I just see wine as almost a "I didn't know what else to get you" gift, so I feel regifting the oil and vinegar would be better (for those who didn't like them).  Doesn't everyone know someone who like to cook?

Best of luck with whatever you do.

  • Is there another, non-liquid option that has the same appeal as the oil/vinegar sets? Maybe a special mix of spices to use in cooking? Or the dry ingredients for a yummy bread?

I believe I have focaccia bread, dipped in oil/vinegar, on my mind with this response!
