Facebook Announcement

Re: Facebook Announcement

  • Honestly, I posted to FB right away because I didn't know how to have that " I am engaged" convo without seeming like an AW. I also posted a ring pic (guilty: disembodied hand) but in no way could it be taken as a "look how much money he spent" kind of pic as my stones arent expensive in any way.

  • We told my parents in person (we live close to them). H called his parents. I emailed my friends. Then it went very quietly on FB as a relationship status change that was hidden from my news feed. People we hadn't already told noticed when H posted a photo taken at Disneyland where you can see a sparkly on my hand.

I found out about one friend's engagement via MySpace. That must've been in 2006 or 2007. I was a bit annoyed about that.
  • I love pictures of the ring! I don't see it as AWish or maybe it is and I just don't care. I'm always disappointed when they post a picture of the couple and I can't see the ring.

  • So... basically from this, I am going to take away that I should inform my family/friends first and then put it up on facebook!

@bethsmiles - YES. I love pictures of the ring. I stalk the 'engagement event' photos to see it. I want a close up, goshdarnit! I love seeing how people's rings reflect their (and their fiance's) tastes/personalities.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • My sister & her husband called immediate family (parents, siblings, grandparents) and then sent out a mass text to other family/friends that evening. The updated Facebook after they sent out the text messages.

My bf & I will probably do something similar that way the most important people don't find out via Facebook but directly from us.
  • I am NEY but I think I would call my parents, grandparents, other close relatives and my best friend and then send a text to others close to us and then update facebook after.

I enjoy seeing pictures of people's rings and most of the posts I've seen that do not include a picture of a ring usually have everal comments asking for ring pictures!

I  think the ring adventure pictures sounds fun!

Yes, this please! It's always nicer to hear such personal news first-hand.

We called our parents and brothers and told our friends, which was easy because we happened to have a party that night. Then we posted it on Facebook when we got home. No ring pic.
  • What about engagement pictures? Anyone do professional ones? Do you still send them if you announce it on FB?

We did e-pics and used one of them on our save-the-dates.

We didn't send engagement announcements or anything like that.

I for damn sure am going to post a picture of my ring when it happens. I've waited a long time for this shit, and I'm going to bask in ALL it's glory. If people think it's tacky, fuck them.

I mean, sure, I'll call all the important people (I think at least 90% of the top 10 are from here) first, but then that rock is going on the FB. Because I AM an AW, and I love it when I get a shit ton of likes. So there.
Bahahaha, I love you for this entire post.

Bf's best friend proposed to his GF a few months ago, and she posted a photo collage of pictures of the two of them taken right after it happened. I literally zoomed in about 300% to try to get a good view of the ring. So I'm with Tiger, I want to see that rock - no mater the type or size!

We did professional engagement photos about 2 months after we got engaged. Our save the date was one of our photos. We sent our save the dates about 6 months outside of the wedding but we didn't do any other type of announcement or anything on Facebook about our save the dates...we posted our engagement photos on there.
