PMS

Re: PMS

  • For a long time I was one of the lucky ones - I never noticed any PMS. The after about a year on my last BCP (I'm totally drawing a blank on the name), I started getting seriously depressed about 6-9 days before my period was due. I would cry for no reason and feel hopeless. BF was really supportive during those times, which helped, but I HATED feeling so out of control of my emotions. A few months ago I finally switched to a generic BCP (Junel FE). That was necessary for other reasons too - I'd been paying out of pocket for BC since I've been on my parents health plan and they work for stupid Catholic Hospitals. My old BCP was about $100 per month - Junel costs me $26! Also, fortunately, most of those symptoms disappeared and my moods are pretty table now!

  • I basically have not had PMS for most of my life.  However, my best friend in middle/high school used to get cramps so bad that she had to stay home from school (they would make her like..throw up...sometimes.  Not good.)

The last two periods I've had though?  I have been SO EXCITED.  I didn't have a period from about May through October due to my ridiculous illness this summer (and the lack of my body acting like a human...).  Needless to say, I have been beyond excited to be human the past two months :)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • I think I'm seeing somewhat of a theme with the ladies on a more steady form of BC here?  I'm on the pill continuously (i.e., I don't take the week-off pills) pretty much (I take a break one to two times a year) and have been for a very long time (doctor approved obviously).  I don't really notice any hormonal changes as a result because I think the pill is keeping the hormones at a steady level.  Will  be interesting to see how it goes when I go off the pill....I went on it originally because I was anemic from blood loss (periods would be heavy, last a week+ and I would get them every other week = not fun).

  • On months when I'm not any any fertility meds (read: progesterone), I get cramps for a couple hours the day before my period, and then a couple more hours the day of my period. My period consists of one medium/heavy day, one light day, and two days of random spotting. I'm for sure one of the lucky ones.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Emotionally, I don't experience much.  Just a little more emotional than usual in the few days before it starts.  If nothing happens in that couple days that would tend to elicit an emotional response from me, it'll pass by unnoticed.  If something upsetting happens, I'm just much quicker to tears than usual.  Like today, I can tell it's getting close because I cried on the phone with a car insurance rep today.  Then again, if I weren't getting shitty service, I would have been fine.

A day or two before my period starts, I'll start getting little twinges in my uterus.  Like really mild cramps.  That's my cue to start taking ibuprofen a couple times a day.

The first two days of my period, I get pretty awful cramps.  I have to keep swallowing the NSAIDS or I'll be pretty much bedridden.  Caffeine also helps, which is good, because the other symptom I get is fatigue.  If the first day of my period falls on a non-work day, I will spend it all in bed alternately sleeping and chugging diet coke.

So basically, I have a day or two of unpleasantness.  It could be way worse.

  • I am on a low dose bcp and I still get emotional (read: bitch, ragey and irrational) the week before and sometimes during.

  • Pretty much with everyone else on the sore boobs! But other than that my symptoms are pretty mild with some fatigue, bloating. I control the bloating with 2-3 cups of mint tea a day with a spoonful of honey.

I do get a little emotional. Start to tear up at random things right around when I start my period and some mildish cramping the first 2-3 days. Sometimes I need to just lay in bed with a heating pad, but otherwise they don't get terrible.
