How to word cash thank you notes

If someone gives you cash as a gift is it appropriate to tell them what you purchased with the cash on the thank you note?  This is what I did when someone sent a significant amount of cash when we got engaged, but I'm not sure if talking about what you did with it comes off as rude.

    If it makes a difference, we used it to go on an extra excursion for our then upcoming vacation.

    Dear Jane and Jim, thank you so very much for your generous wedding gift.  We used/plan to use it to help us enjoy our honeymoon/buy a house/buy new appliances/whatever.  It was great to see you and the kids at the wedding...  blah blah blah.

    The only inappropriate thing to mention about the cash gift is the actual amount given. ie: "Thank you so much for the $50 cheque. We used it to take a surfing lesson on our honeymoon."

    Instead, go with the format above, by @AprilH81.

    I am a huge fan of the word "lovely", by the way, to describe any cash gifts, regardless of the amount.

    "Dear Aunt and Uncle, thank you so much for the generous gift of money! It will really help us out with our kitchen renovation (or whatever you plan on using it towards). Add some stuff about them being at the wedding; we hope you had a great time. Thank you again!"

    I included what we intended to use the cash for when I wrote ours. 
    What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    If you know what you plan to use the cash for, mention that; otherwise, thank them for their generosity.  Also, express your pleasure in their company at the wedding.
