Well who the hell asked you anyway? *VENT*

This really is just a vent, although anyone is welcome to post stories of equally rude friends.

I got a FB message today from a friend of mine. I was a BM in her wedding, five years ago, but we've kind of lost touch (and her husband's a racist asshole prone to pulling guns on anyone who's not white) so she wasn't invited to my wedding. She didn't seem to mind/notice, or at least she didn't say anything about it.

But the FB message today says, "Hey, HisGirl, I was looking at your wedding registries online at BB&B, and I have to tell you, I think it's totally stupid you registered for good china and nice crystal. I mean, what are you ever going to do with it, other than host dinner parties and holidays? It's really wasteful of you, when you could have just registered for more everyday dishes. Also, it's a really ugly pattern."

I haven't talked to this woman in more than two years, and THIS is what she sends me as a FB message? SERIOUSLY?!?

Uhm....What.The.FUCK?!

  • LOL.... what the heck?

Did she google your name to find your registry?  Why would someone even do that if they weren't invited to the wedding?

Someone needs to get a job or a hobby.

Sorry you had to deal with that, but I would just laugh it off because obviously this woman is BSC

  • What in the hell?!? What a raging bitch!
  • WOW.... That is seriously rude. Did she register for fine china herself? If not, she's probably jealous / regretting it. I would post the story of a girl who WAS going to be a bridesmaid in my wedding but it would be too long. Lol. People can just read the post about it. Do you plan on saying anything back to her?
  • I have no idea why she was looking at our registries, because, as a PP said, who looks at registries of weddings they weren't invited to??

@hlvonb, she did not register for fine china, and IIRC, they didn't get a lot of stuff they HAD registered for because her DH's family is super-religious and she offended them all by telling them she doesn't believe in God and they're all stupid for believing themselves AND they lived together before marriage and everyone disapproved of that, too.

The ways she offended his family at their wedding would fill a small novel.

It seems your Friend and her husband are a match made in, well, not heaven. :)

  • Well she can just go fuck herself.

I never thought I wanted formal china and, as it turns out, I just about peed my pants with glee when my dad but us a complete 8 place setting set a few weeks ago.

@HisGirlFriday13 Wow... she seems like she is BSC. I would cut all ties - Facebook included
  • Oh, she's been de-friended on FB. As soon as that message came in, she got un-friended.

Exactly this. And this cracked me up: " I mean, what are you ever going to do with it, other than host dinner parties and holidays? " Uhm...Isn't that exactly what fine china is for?
  • What? How hilariously odd
  • WTF

  • Seriously, what the fuck.
  • Response: "Gosh, you just reminded me to make the registries private for wedding guests only. Thanks!" annddddd... unfriend.

  • Evil Chipmunk might have responded along the lines of "we registered for fine china and crystal because the sound is much more satisfying when we use them for target practice instead of everyday glassware and dinner plates."

FWIW, FI and I have a conglomerate of dishes from college. The only ones that match are the corelle, which came in exactly one color- beige. I'm inheriting my several greats removed grandmother's fine china. It's butt ugly in my opinion, but it's family china (butter yellow, flower patterned, gilt edges from the 1860s. Collectible, appreciable in an antique way, yes, but not my taste). We still registered for some nice china for special meals, holidays, and just for evenings when we can cook together and have a "just the two of us" meal without having to drop things every five minutes to deal with some project or issue.

Screw that girl, she's no friend. I think she's jelly pants!

  • I'll admit that I've looked at some of my friends' choices on their registries and thought 'OMG, I had no idea she had such atrocious taste', but no way in HELL would I ever mention that to them. I've even bought some patterns I hated because they liked them, and the stuff wasn't going to be in my home so it didn't matter to me. I just wanted them to have something they liked.  It sounds like this girl's brain-mouth filter is non-existant. I can't see how she'll have many friends left if she keep saying stuff like that.  And even worse, I'm sure she has no idea why she got de-friended.

Exactly this.  My friend registered for the ugliest china I have ever seen-it has pastel flowers and kitty cats and butterflies on it. Blech.

But I got her a couple of pieces for her bridal shower because she's my friend and that's what she likes.  I would NEVER tell her how hideous I think it is because I'm not a shitty person.

  • FTR: This was the pattern we chose in china:

  • @HisGirlFriday13, pretty! I like the fleur-de-lis inspired look.
  • @KeptInStitches, thanks! That's actually why we picked it -- we liked the fleur-de-lis, it was pretty, and we thought it was timelessly, classically, elegant. Clearly my BSC-friend disagreed!

  • You have excellent taste, and your ex-homegirl was being ridiculous.
  • That looks really similar to the design H and I picked out! You have great taste and your so-called friend sucks, forget them!
  • Wow, someone 1) has nothing better to do and 2) is really good at minding her own business. I can't believe some people have the nerve to do that! I've had people bitch about some items we have on our registry, such as a Dyson or the Kitchenaid Standmixer. Did it ever occur to these people that higher priced items either aren't meant for them to be buying, could be there in case a group of people wanted to go together on a gift or that we plan on purchasing the item after the wedding as a part of the completion program? That's crossing the line in itself but to go on and say how ugly your pattern is? Like seriously!

BTW, I think your pattern is lovely @HisGirlFriday13...and I registered for crystal too!

  • Wow I think that's the same pattern we picked too!  We didn't get it (which is not a big deal), but I think it's very pretty!

  • @kmj500, @JordanF13, @Amapola14  -- thanks! Again, we really liked it, and no one else has to, but it's nice to know other people do!

And we also registered for higher-ticket items (like a KitchenAid) thinking (a) people could go in on things together or (b) we'd get them with the completion discount later on.

We had people buy us our china, we had people buy us stuff not on our registry, we had people buy us stuff on our registry and it all was lovely.

I just...I don't get it. I mean, I realise that she's fundamentally unhappy and taking it out on people who *are* happy (this is the same "friend" who once said to me, 'Well, I might be unhappily married, but at least I'm married before age 30, unlike you, HisGirl.' That was why we stopped talking more than two years ago, btw), so it's not really worth engaging her, but I did figure out how to block her as well as unfriend her, so she can't send me FB messages anymore.

  • First off, I love when you comment on threads ( I feel like a fangirl ). Your gif signature is memorizing.

Second, damn! My friend is getting married in January and registered on a couple different places (wedding is in Canada, and his family is in USA, so one store from each country). I found that they registered extremely similar items at each store and thought "Well, what happens if they get 2 Kitchen aids?" It seems odd, but nothing odd about registering for China. That's just rude.

Awww, thanks! I freaking love GWTW, and Scarlett's "Get your bitch face on" in that GIF always inspires me.

And yeah, I don't get the idea of registering for similar things -- people will figure out you want a KitchenAid and buy you one wherever it's cheapest (trust me; someone bought us ALL of our Pyrex and then some at an outlet mall). People will figure it out.
