What special dishes are you making for Thanksgiving?

Originally I thought I was working and hubby was just going to drop off a plate of food at my work, but I'm not now and we are going to his parents house. :)

I'm going to make hubbys favorite casserole and two desserts

1. Baked brownies with a cinnamon-cream cheese frosting

2. A cranberry-ginger pear Pie, here is the recipe

What are you making?

Re: What special dishes are you making for Thanksgiving?

  • I am bringing wine. . . . we are going out of state to visit family.  If I was home I'd make a pumpkin pie without a doubt.
  • We are having dinner at my sister's so while she is cooking the turkey, I am making our usual side dishes we have every Thanksgiving:

    Mashed potatoes
    Cheesy potatoes
    Homemade bread
    Corn Casserole
    Amish Noodles

and for dessert, a pumpkin roll. I'll be busy!

  • We're celebrating Thanksgiving with my family this weekend and since we can't fly down to FL to see his family next week, we're spending actual Thanksgiving day by ourselves. This is what I plan to make so far:

    Cornish game hens
    Sausage, apple and sage stuffing
    Garlic mashed potatoes
    Grilled veggies
    Cranberry sauce
    Sweet Potatoes
    Rolls

For dessert I'll have pumpkin cheesecake and cookies.
  • We are hosting Thanksgiving this year, our menu includes:

    Fried turkey
    Duck breast
    Duck and sausage gumbo

    Italian sausage style stuffing
    Regular stuffing
    Apple cider glazed sweet potatoes
    Mashed potatoes
    Green bean casserole
Over roasted cauliflower and Brussel sprouts
    Glazed carrots and pecans

    Apple pie
    Chocolate cake
Almond cake with blackberry mascarpone filling

    I'm tired already.
  • This year our Thanksgiving menu so far looks like this:

    Turkey
Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes with Roasted Peppers
    Homemade Noodles (my favorite!)
    Stuffing
    Sweet Potatoes
    Rolls
Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake with a Gingersnap Crust

We'll also probably make some vegan options for my SO's sister but I'm not 100% sure what that will be yet.

  • I think I need to try and convince my Mom to host US Thanksgiving this year too.  I need some turkey to hold me over between Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct) and Christmas

  • We're not turkey fans. A good green salad, herb crusted prime rib roast, garlic red potatoes, risotto for my daughter who has an absurd hatred for potatoes, and green beans with walnuts. Unnecessary rolls for my son who is sad if I don't bake rolls. A good Barolo to make me happy. Pumpkin pie, of course. I love Thanksgiving.
  • We're hosting (*gulp*) so I'm making the whole feast...though I have yet to make the menu haha

  • My FMIL always hosts Thanksgiving at her house, so that's what we always do. I help cook everything but the only things I really make myself are the mashed potatoes, and dessert. I'm planning on doing a pumpkin tiramisu, and possibly a simple pumpkin pie. I'm so ready for Thanksgiving, I wish it was here already...I drool thinking about all the food!

  • We're having a quiet dinner for just the two of us. Making the following:

    Turkey

    Mashed potatoes

    Gravy

    green beans

    steamed broccoli

    rolls

We've decided on no dessert (I don't need to be eating it, he doesn't really care for pie).

I'm also making breakfast that morning, so eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, and toast. FI will of course pile on the Tapatio hot sauce.

  • I'll be at home with my parents this year.  (Yay for final holidays at home!!!)

Anyway mom is making all the usual stuff.  Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce.  This year I'm in charge of making the sweet potatoes (MY FAV!!!)

I'm going to do them Ruth Chris style.  Can't wait!!!

    Here's the recipe:

  • Cheesecake....first time that I am making it from scratch. Wish me luck!
  • Peanut butter pie from scratch. It's the best thing in the world!

  • We're not making anything this year. We are going to my aunt's house and she likes to do it all.

I thought of you this year when DH and I did NOT have our annual Thanksgiving dinner in October! He went to university in Windsor, so he likes celebrating Thanksgiving in October, which we did last year. This year it was too close to the wedding for us to really do it properly.

But do know that there's one couple in Central PA who are celebrating Thanksgiving in October with our neighbors to the north!

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I usually make an apple pie and mashed potatoes to bring to FILs, but FMIL has requested I make pumpkin whoopie pies with cream cheese frosting instead.  It's my FAVORITE fall dessert of all time (to eat and make), so I have no complaints about her request!

  • mine's a little unusual...

    We're having:
    twice baked potatoes
    sausage
    green beans
    and pumpkin cheesecake

It's just me and FI and maybe his friend. Sadly, his parents were suppose to come down but backed out due to bad weather

  • @LuvBird29

I noticed that today too. I actually started a new post on the chit chat board about it. Lol. I didn't see that you had already asked that until now.
