Well, it's finals week for my second semester of nursing school, so right about now I'm absolutely FREAKING OUT. I have one final at 10:00 am today and another on Wednesday morning, and I'm feeling extremely unprepared even though I studied my ass off. So there's that.

But I will be getting a massage on Wednesday afternoon no matter what happens, so I'm good. :) Thursday and Friday I work twelve-hour shifts, Saturday I'm going to a masquerade, and Sunday is girls' night with my best friends! So I have a lot of fun things to look forward to; I just hope I don't flunk out of nursing school before I get to do them, ya know?

ETA: How was everybody's weekend? I was all about the studying and the puppy this weekend, so no good stories from me.
  • Today we're picking up our brand new truck, packing for our trip, cleaning, and doing some Christmas crafting. I'm flying down to my parents house on Wednesday with the baby and one of the dogs, bf is driving down on Friday with the other dog and all of our things. My sister graduates from nursing school on Friday and we have a date to see Catching Fire at some point this week.

I'm so excited for this week :)
  • What exams do you have @Amapola14? I'm sure you will do great and you have such a fun week to look forward to after them. I miss school, exams (or finals, is that an American thing? I've always said exams, maybe that's the Canadian way to say it?) were the worst, but nursing school was great, I wish I could do it again lol.

@QuiltingNurse, yay for your sister! Does nursing run in the family? :)

ETA: I have my maternity nursing final today and Med-Surg I on Wednesday. Yes, finals = exams. Haha, I don't know if I'd ever want to do nursing school over again, but I'm learning a lot and I definitely feel great about picking this career! What kind of nursing do you do?
  • Neither of us considered nursing when we were in high school, I tried social work first and hated it so my mom suggested nursing and it turns out I loved it. My sister did four years of different business type programs but never found one she loved. Once I graduated she realized its what she wanted to do as well and went ahead with it. I'm so proud of her, she'll be a great nurse.
  • Morning ladies! My weekend was ok. H has been working a lot (last week he basically worked 7-7 everyday and on Saturday he worked 7am-8pm) and then yesterday we went our separate ways for football. Even though I see him at night for a bit, I'm really missing him lately and I'm having a minor case of the sads for that reason.

I am happy that my Eagles won yesterday and hoping for a Bears win tonight!

I don't have much going on this week. No Devils home games at all. I'm supposed to go to H's hockey game tonight if he makes it home in time and I have dinner plans with my BFF on Thursday. That's really it!

  • @Amapola14 - Good luck on your finals!

    @QuiltingNurse - I hope you have a great trip!

  • Thanks @Swazzle. We're staying for 3 weeks, its a long time away from home but our last trip before I go back to work so it will be nice to relax.

@Amapole14 I'm in palliative/long term care. I love getting to make the end of someone's life special, especially when they don't have family. It's not something too many people like, but I absolutely love it and can't imagine a better fit for me.
  • @amapola14 good luck with finals!!!!

    @quiltingnurse have a fun trip!

@swazzle that sucks that H is working a lot lately, BF has been working a ton of overtime too, so it sometimes seems like I never see him and if I do it's like for an hour before we go to bed!

This weekend was good. Friday I left work early to let the furnace maintenance guy come in and service our furnace, tank and hot water heater. BF got out of work early, so I was able to leave the house and get a manicure. After that, BF and I did some shopping at Target and Michael's then I stayed up late drinking wine, knitting and writing out Christmas cards. The more I drank, the funnier the cards were.

Saturday, BF woke up early to work OT. I wrapped my gifts for a secret santa and went to the post office to mail those out. I went to my old day spa to get my wax and I missed my lady SO bad! She remembered me even though it's been like a year since I've been there. I told her the place I was going to before sucked, and I was so glad to be back to see her. She is the nicest woman even though she's ripping hair out of your lady bits. I came home, had a late breakfast then headed out to get my hair cut and colored. Got home from that, did some knitting and got dressed for date night. We went to go eat sushi and see Catching Fire which at first left me confused but I realized that there is going to be another Catching Fire movie so it all made sense.

Sunday I put up the tree while BF cleaned out the garage and put the outside lights up. I finished up a hat I knitted for my friend then started on a baby blanket for another friend. Our neighbors invited us out with them to go to our town's recreation center for a winter-fest thing. I was fun if you had kids, but BF and I don't, so it was funny seeing all the different parenting styles. I shouldn't judge because I'm not a parent, but it was either parents that were helicopter moms or parents who let their kids drink out of the toilet. We ate dinner that BF made and I finished up laundry.

This week I have nothing planned. I have a dentist appointment Wednesday before I get my crowns put in. My dentist is a freaking pain in the ass but I know he just wants to do a good job but still. I'll probably wrap some gifts this week that I bought for BF since our tree is looking a little bare right now. Friday we leave to go to my parent's house for the weekend. I'm hoping we don't have to though.

  • @Swazzle and @buddysmom80, thanks ladies! Swazzle, I'm sorry you're missing your H. Hopefully work calms down a bit for him soon so y'all can get in some time together.

@QuiltingNurse, no kidding! Palliative care is a big deal, so major props to you for choosing that special area - it is certainly a challenging one to take on. I work in inpatient hospice right now and love it. I don't think I will immediately work in hospice/palliative care as an RN, but I'm so grateful that I've had this experience. It definitely tugs at your heartstrings and stretches you to be more compassionate, patient, and resilient as a caregiver.
  • Morning all!

It was a good news/bad news kind of weekend. Good news was I was able to pick up more Christmas ornaments on sale, so my tree doesn't look quite so sad and unfilled. More good news: I successfully knit a mitten. Bad news: I didn't get any laundry done (coin-op and my neighbors were doing laundry every time I tried), so I have to do laundry tonight. More bad news: I pinched a nerve in my neck yesterday and spent yesterday in excruciating, localized, stabbing pain. Today I am in spread-out, partially numb, muscular-style pain. I hope tomorrow for no pain.
  • Hmmm what am I looking forward to the week? The rain stopping...oh wait...except for it's never going to stop raining ever. I think we might get a break on Wednesday and Thursday from the rain but then it's supposed to start up again. Three damn weeks of rain and mist and clouds and grossness....I'm seriously about to lose it.

We didn't do a whole ton this weekend. Friday night we celebrated @southernpeach89 's new job and hung out with a couple of family friends. On Saturday BF and I met my parents to go Christmas tree shopping. We helped them pick out their tree from a local tree farm and then we went to Lowe's for ours because the tree farm is just too expensive. We ended up to getting an 8 foot tree because I couldn't find anything in the 6 to 7 ft range that I liked. Here's a picture of it all decorated!

Saturday night we went to our friend's annual Christmas bash and had a really good time. They went out of the box with food this year and had three different kinds of caviar. Whatever the black stuff is...beluga something I think...salmon caviar and then really tiny orange fish eggs that had a very salty fishy taste. I think those ones were my favorite of the three.

On Sunday BF and I slept late and just took easy for most of the morning and early afternoon. After we finally stopped being lazy bums we got out and did some Christmas shopping! Finally! Now I only have BF to buy for, my youngest sister, and I still need to get the rest of BF's sister's gift and finish off a gift for his niece. When we got home we found out that Cinders has turned into Houdini. We normally keep her locked up in her crate while we're gone and we're extremely careful to make sure we fully close both latches because when she was a really tiny puppy she squeezed herself through the bottom corner of the door because we hadn't fully latched it. Well anyway, we walk in the door from Christmas and grocery shopping and look who's waiting for us! The amazing part is she didn't destroy anything or have an accident in any part of the house. I guess this means it might be time to see how Cinders does on her own while we're gone for short outings. As it turns out she got out of her crate by somehow pushing up on the top panel so that the front panel came loose and fell forward. Guess it's off to the hardware store for some zip ties so she can't pull that stunt again...

  • @buddysmom80 and @Amapola14 - Thanks guys. It's just hard getting used to this. In the 6.5 years we've been together, I'm used to H being home when I get home and getting to spend our weekends together. It's a tough adjustment.

On a plus note, I'm realizing we really need another car because I've been pretty stranded while he's working. Anyone have any tips on car-buying?

  • @lmhollister - Your tree looks great!

  • @Swazzle don't buy a Jetta tdi. Bf had had so many problems with his lately, I know its 10 years old, but it was getting ridiculous. We bought a gmc Sierra and it has so many fun features, I'm really excited about it. I have a Mazda 3 as well and its a pretty great little car, they have 0% financing on right now in Canada so it might be worth looking into.

Ha! I think H is pushing for the VW Golf TDI. We have a Civic now (H's stepdad's old car). It has over 300,000 miles on it but a brand new engine. It's a beast!

  • This weekend was great, we got a lot done! Friday we went to have drinks with my family and some friends. I also got a new job on Friday. I'm really excited about it but I won't start until next Monday so I have this whole week to just get ready for it.

Saturday H and I did some Christmas shopping, made some returns for duplicate gifts we received, and bought a whole bunch of things we needed for the apartment. I feel like we have a new place now lol. That night we went to a Christmas party which was fun. The host always has amazing food and lots of wine. We ate way too much.

Sunday was church and then we had lunch with H's mom and stepdad. They made homemade minestrone soup and spiked apple cider...I ate too much again and then fell asleep on their couch like a baby. At least I didn't see the Falcons lose. That night we helped mom decorate her tree and have more soup.

This week I'm deep cleaning our apartment before I go back to work. I'm also finishing our thank you notes, I can see the light at the end of the road with those...so many to write! I also hope our pictures from the wedding come in so I can get started on our parent's gifts for Christmas.

@swazzle I approve of the TDI Golf. I had one before the Honda, I LOVED IT!!!!! Just make sure you find a good diesel mechanic if you're buying used or without the VW warranty. It took me a few years to find a local guy since my VW dealership had ONE diesel mechanic so if there was an emergency I had a better chance getting an appointment with the local guy than the dealership.

Also if the Gold TDI (I had a 2005) the turbo booster craps out all the time, it's like $80 to fix, but that's really the only thing that happened to the Golf.

ETA: How many miles are you going to be putting on your car? Maybe look into leasing so if you really HATE the car you're only stuck with it for a few years. We're doing that option for my next car since my round-trip commute daily is 4 miles total.

  • @Swazzle BF has a 2010 VW Golf...not sure on the TDI part though. Anyway it's an awesome car! It looks small but you get tons of storage space because of the hatchback and the back seat is surprisingly comfortable even for tall people. Also, he's a tall guy and feels like he has plenty of room to stretch out in in the driver's seat. It's a great compact car. His model is a manual drive and he got the sportier looking wheels with the narrow rims. IMO I think it looks a lot better and sportier than the ones that come with the standard rims.

  • Oh! On Saturday, the cat tree I got for Bailey and Hailey came! I put it together and was so, so excited. I put them on it:

    image

and they both jumped down after like... 4 seconds. They wanted nothing to do with it and I was really disappointed.

But then! Yesterday, H and I were catching up on Survivor and watching Homeland and Hailey decided she loves it after all!

    image

Also, H and I got our Christmas tree yesterday after football. I was pretty tipsy/borderline drunk when we went and didn't realize it until about an hour after we got home and the tree was sitting in the living room that IT IS SO FREAKING SMALL. I'm pretty sure if I put lights on it, it'll just fall over. I'm not sure why H let drunk-Swazzle pick the damn Christmas tree this year.

  • @TwoDimes- My title is Resourcing Analyst and I'm going to be working really closely to our consultants and basically managing who they talk to and do business with. Our company works through The Cloud so I won't really interact with people face to face but more so through that system. It's weird to explain while typing so I hope that makes sense lol.
  • @swazzle do the cats like catnip? When we bought a tree for Buddy he wouldn't use it and BF took catnip and rubbed it everywhere, now Buddy uses the tree all the time. Or if they like treats, hide them a the different levels just so they get used to it.

I love your Christmas tree. I think next year we should both get drunk and pick out Christmas trees with @hummingbird125!

  • @buddysmom80 - Thanks for the tips! H is obsessed with VW and was a diesel mechanic for a bit so I think that'll come in handy. I know next to nothing about cars so I leave all that crap up to him. Leasing is definitely something we're thinking about doing. We couldn't before because he drove too many miles to/from work but now that he's in BK and the commute is like 20 miles a day roundtrip.

@lmhollister - I'm not a huge fan of the Golfs but it's H's favorite. He had a 2-door one when we first met and then we bought a Jetta together which we just sold earlier this year. I would prefer a Jetta but since he feels stronger about it and he'll probably be the one driving it, I'm leaving the decision up to him.

They do! I will try that. I put one of my tshirts in the little house thing and I think that's what coerced Hailey into snuggling in there.

I love that idea! Since I like to choose the smallest trees ever, we can just stick them in our purses and carry on drinking.

  • Morning ladies!  This weekend was full of Chirstmas shopping...got everyone done except H (I'm stumped on what to get him this year!).

I'm looking forward to my trip to India to join H this week and a short work week...if everyone actually leaves me alone (you would think "I'm going half way across the world" would be a good reason to be left alone here but you would be wrong).

    @Swazzle - I love the cat tree!

@LivLeighton - Sorry for the meltdown...it happens to all of us.  Yeah for the tattoo this week!

  • @Swazzle - that's a cool cat tree!

My weekend was just there.  Friday - did laundry, found out e-ring will be ready this Fri (Dec 13 - it's in, she needs to set diamond and appraise and get all the docs in order). Saturday went shopping - general household items.  Worked for 4 hours.  Sunday - I don't know what happened to Sunday - I tidied up the house a bit, walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill - watched the end of the Patriots/Browns game - sent to see Wicked again got home went to bed.

  • Morning ladies! My weekend was pretty quiet. I got sick on Saturday, fever and all, so FI and I kind of just stayed in and laid low. Drank lots of tea. Yesterday I was feeling better so we put up his Christmas tree and watched a TON of Christmas movies. I totally fell in love with White Christmas.

Hated getting up this morning and gah ice! But I'm at work now and have a fairly quiet week. Can't wait for FI's Officer Installation for Freemasons this coming Saturday!

  • MONDAY.  ugh!  I am sleepy and tired and only at work for 2-3 hours today.  we are getting our tornado shelter put in today at noon, so I'm leaving work at 11 or 11:30.  I would take a nap, but I have a feeling it's going to be LOUD.

Bax woke me up at 3 AM today (wake-up time is 5:30) because he had fish butt.  so we did an emergency bath/express and back to bed we went.  but, oy, 3 AM!  why doesn't he wake up my H instead of me?

it's still really icy out there so I am not sure why I came in for just 2-3 hours.  oh well!  up and at 'em!
  • Morning!!!  It's freezing in my house today, and my street is still unplowed.  Both of these things are making it very hard to get dressed and drive out to customers. Womp, womp.

This weekend was great.  I spent lots of quality time with H and my friends. I got the best of both worlds.  Friday H and I stayed in, watched movies, and crawled into bed early.  Saturday I met friends out for breakfast, took a barre class with one of the girls, and then met H out for some shopping!  We ordered a couch from West Elm and then wandered over to Best Buy to get a new smart tv.  H and I are completely geeked to spend time in the updated living room.

Saturday night was a Christmas party, where I drank all the wine and ate all the food.  So freaking fun.  Yesterday I didn't move from the couch.
