Hair and Make Up Recos NYC/NJ area

Hi Ladies,

Do any of you have recos for hair and makeup for the NYC/NJ area? I am looking for someone to do hair and makeup for about 7-10 people. I also don't want to spend a crap ton.

Also, would you recommended paying for your bridesmaids or have them pay?

    A lot of brides I know in Queens, NY (myself included) use Jenn "Hair Genie" Posillico (email: hairgenie11@aol.com) for their hair and Oksana Mallard (makeupartistryoksana.com) for make up.  They both take a while to get back to you but they're both amazing!  I can't speak highly enough of either of them.  I was married in Feb '13 and one of my sisters was married in Aug '13 and the rates were $100 for make up (and extra $10 if you want fake eye lashes) and $80 for an up-do.  I'm not sure if these rates have since changed, but after speaking with other women I know who have recently gotten married in Queens/Brooklyn/LI, these prices are pretty standard.

    If you're making your bridesmaids use a specific hair and make up service, then yes, you have to pay for them.  If you let them choose to get ready however/wherever they wish, then no, you are not responsible for that cost.
