Bridesmaid dress expectations

Re: Bridesmaid dress expectations

  • Just because the dresses can be worn differently doesn't mean they would be. I had been thinking that it would be fun to wear them one way for the ceremony and another for the reception. I think I will buy one for my MOH and let her try it out and let the girls decide if they like it and if not we will find a plan B.

@misssunshine17 way to be nasty for no reason. Wanting my girls in matching dresses doesn't make me a bridezilla. I have even stated that they could help pick the dress out.

I do have to say though that FI might want a say if these infinity dresses don't work out and then we're looking at 6ish people we have to please. :/ I hate the idea of anyone spending money on a dress they won't wear again!! That was my favorite part of the infinity dress I think, they look like something people will wear again

Some pictures of the infinity dress worn by "real" women:
Some of the girls in the picture below look like there might be a nip-slip, IMO

IMO, the dress's lack of structure and coverage does not flatter those with curves
    image
The knotted/twisted straps look sort of odd and cheap IMO.  Also, a lot of the styles don't allow much coverage for a bra.

Not flattering on all body types, IMO, and it looks like they also show panty lines easily (BM on far left)

    Edited to fix typo

  • My bridesmaids too wanted a little direction.
What I offered them was a variety of options (different designers but same colour) in different price ranges. (about 5-6 options)
You do want the girls to be comfortable and not regret the dress (especially if they are paying) but as a friend you have to respect their limits.
That also being said, your opinion also counts.
  • All I asked the girls was for a dress that was floor-length and charcoal gray. They all eventually found a dress they loved at David's Bridal and everyone looked beautiful.

This girl made her poor BMs look like bumblebees with side boob.
  • Idk! I think it's an opinion thing. I think all those ladies look good. If my girls think they look good in the dresses, and they like them, that's what really matters. I do appreciate the heads up though. I'm going to buy an infinity dress for me and wear it first hand and see how I feel. If it's really horrible and untied and sucks, it'll be out, if I love it still, then I'll pass the same dress to my MOH. If she loves it, it'll be a go I think.
  • I've just seen so many good reviews too!!!
  • Those dresses look very casual to me. Almost like beach cover-ups.

    But to each their own!
  • I picked a brand, color and fabric. I based that choice off of the lowest budget point of my girls, which was $150. They ended up all choosing the same dress from Jcrew and got it on clearance for $125.

  • My niece chose infinity dresses for her wedding and her girls complained about them all throughout the reception.  They looked like cheap dresses and they weren't flattering at all.  Showed EVERY lump, bump, etc.
  • Infinity dresses look cheap. They look like someone had some leftover weird slippery fabric lying around and decided to wrap and tie it around themselves. Dresses that have a nice form and shape and structure always look better then flimsy pieces of fabric.

  • The fact that two birds offers an onsite professional dress tie-er should tell you how difficult they are to get right. I've only ever heard negative things about them, from women of varying shapes and sizes. It's expensive polyester. Why are you so hot for this?

Like I've said before, I've seen so many good reviews and I love the look. I don't think they look cheap at all. It's a personal preference
  • This is a photo of my SIL in a Two Birds dress. She is a real woman with curves, and I think the dress was really flattering on her. She also said it was very comfortable, and the matching bandeau made it easy for her to wear a bra of her choice.

Thank you!! See I just think it's a person to person thing! I think your SIL looks beautiful and not cheap!

I definitely agree that some of them look cheap and may not be flattering. But after seeing her in her dress, I feel like it's one of those case-by-case things. They may not work well on a lot of people, but for some other people, they may be fabulous. I suggest finding a salon that stocks the infinity dress you want and have your BMs try them on first, the same as any other dress.

That's also a seriously unflattering and awkward hemline.
  • I haven't tried the infinity dresses in person. I like the idea of continuity while allowing for individual expression/preference. I haven't found a good balance for that yet, honestly--I really hate the whole "pick a color" thing unless it's still the same designer, fabric type, dye shade and length. Just too disorganized; looks sloppy to me.

That being said, @clairekundinger, I really don't understand why you'd be so gung-ho on a specific dress when you don't have your full bridal party chosen and clearly don't know their budgets. This is kind of a backwards approach, which is probably also driving some of the discouraging feedback.
  • @kitty8403 the infinity dress I'm looking at is on etsy and is $50. That's one of the reasons I love it so much actually is because it's so cheap and they look beautiful and have a million (almost 1000) good reviews.

You can say I'm putting my cart before my horse but I have an idea about my BMs I just don't know for sure. I do have to figure it out soonish :/

$50?? I'd be a little distrustful, just because good fabric and labor is worth something. But that's so cheap, it might be worth your time to order one just to see how you like it and how well it's made.

That is the plan! And like I said, her feedback is amazing
