Where have all the NON-Traditional brides gone?!

I would love to see some non-traditional wedding dresses on here that some of you might have worn ... Instead of the cookie-cutter all white, A-Line, corset-back dress. (They look great on some people!)

Just would love to hear from the really unique brides out there who said no to tradition and let their their personality shine!!!

I would love to see color, sparkle, two-tone dresses, different styles ... Anybody??

  • I wore a hot pink dress. You can see some pictures here (LINK). Check out Offbeat Bride for a wider variety of wedding dresses.
  • That is awesome! You looked beautiful! Thanks.

I find it so hard with the wedding dress because it seems almost everyone is programmed to think that your dress needs to be the same as everyone else's. I picked a different dress too, and although I would never change it because of someone's opinion, I get annoyed that because it isn't traditional, people always find something to criticize. How did you find people were about your dress, if you don't mind me asking?

The pink was so vibrant, color is beautiful!
  • Awesome, thanks! I already have two dresses purchased and I am having them altered into this dress. I love the two-tone, the top is all crystals, not grey. But because it two colours most people aren't liking it.

I didn't criticize your dress because it wasn't "cookie cutter", I just stated that the top from the one dress and the bottom from the other just didn't seem to go and it made the top look "dirty" because of the contrast in color.

And if you had already decided to go that route and were happy with your choice the. Why even ask for opinions?  And not to be mean but a lot of brides where beaded top and ruffled skirted mermaid style dresses so I really don't see how your dress is all that different from others that I have seen.

  • I was not specifically referring to you, I used that term to describe a style I find most people go for. I am quite happy with my dress and have no plans on changing it. I simply realized that most of the people responding to my post did favor the traditional bridal look. That is why you might have noticed, I tried to gear my question to non-traditional brides, who choose to do something different. The top part of my dress is not grey, it is white underneath, all covered with crystals. I like the contrast because I love two tone wedding dresses. I never said anything regarding your dress, so please refrain from my dress looks so similar to ones you have seen because it is a custom dress, with a different bodice and two-tone. It is not a common dress. And if you don't like the dress, why feel the need to follow the different posts and comment on each one?
  • Your knot-bio is adequately quoted, I definitely feel attacked. Thank you for making this experience not a pleasant one

I don't perceive the dress you posted earlier as non-traditional. (Not following threads of yours in particular just happened to read it before this one). I have seen a ton like it at Kleinfelds on 'Say Yes to the Dress' as it looks very similar in style to the Pnina Tornai dresses as Maggie mentioned. I haven't seen anyone 'attacking you,' I just don't think that a lot of people agreed with you.

The dress to me is just a mermaid with ruffles and tons of crystals. Nothing out of the ordinary. I perceive different colors or dresses that aren't wedding related at all as non-traditional but that's just me. The dress you have still looks like a wedding dress to me.
  • Now I want to see OP's dress out of curiosity.

@Alexandrathegr8 - thanks, I thought maybe the pic had been on here but had been deleted for some reason

    Edited: I can't spell today

  • I believe she deleted the photos of the dress, as the links for the pins don't bring up the pictures anymore.  I saw it earlier.  The top was fitted and beaded...not white but like a silver-ish.  The bottom was all ruffles and white.

  • Dang it! She did delete the pictures.
  • I'm really confused…  I glanced at that other post and looked at this one and I don't think anyone said ANYTHING even remotely mean, a few people just didn't like the dress… but they weren't mean about it or anything, they said they didn't like it nicely.  I don't see why OP is so upset she deleted all the pictures and says she feels "Attacked…"  I've never heard of anyone so insanely oversensitive before.

  • laaaaame! I was genuinely interested in seeing it! boo.

  • @BrandiNSteve, you're being overly sensitive. Pointing out that the dress you posted pictures of doesn't say what you're looking for it to say is not an attack. Pointing out that it is not really all that non-traditional/offbeat is not an attack. If you were only wanting people to fawn over your choice and say how perfect it is (which is what I suspect you were after given the DD and this follow-up), you could have said so or posted to Wedding Bee instead. When you ask for opinions, people are going to give them to you honestly and often bluntly.

I saw nothing in the other thread that even remotely resembled an attack; nor did I see anything in the dress you posted that even remotely resembled "offbeat" or "non-traditional". It was the top of one traditional dress sewed on to the bottom of another traditional dress.

Hence...I am very confused, both about the title of this thread, and about the OP's assertion that she's been attacked.
  • The link she posted in the FAQ for A&A is pretty similar to the dress she was posting yesterday, except the top wasn't the same.  I wanna say she said it was a photoshopped image.  The bottom was that linked dress and the top looked basically all beads.  I only glanced at it for a few seconds, but I remember it wasn't white at all.  And PP are right, there was no "attacking" done at all, just people giving their opinions as asked.

It's just not a non-traditional gown...it's a mermaid with ruffles and crystals. It's a wedding dress through and through.
  • To everyone,

I had posted about the dress to see people's opinion for the the theme and if it was good for NYE because we wanted to have a glitzy New Year's eve party with our friends and family. I got offended about a comment on a previous thread calling it dirty looking because it was two tone. It wasn't a big deal, I just figured since most people there didn't feel the colours together that perhaps I would ask people who might have wore different colours, that's all. Then the same people kept responding. I absolutely love my dress! It is my personality, lots of people like my original dresses by themselves, unfortunately I love aspects of both. One I already own and one I'm ordering. That is why I have been having so much conflict with it. I am not able to load my pics on here, the uploading button freezes. If someone can tell me how to upload it here, I can post. I don't link having the pinterest link because my friends follow it and I don't want everyone seeing it so early.
  • I wanted a non-traditional dress, but still a wedding dress. I was just hoping that someone might have had a two tone dress on here. Even though they are getting more popular, lots of people aren't fussy about them. I'm trying to get it to post. Attach a file button won't work for me. The pic was photoshopped so it isn't exact. I had two original dresses and the photoshopped pic for a general look.
  • Thanks sweetie, I appreciate it. I guess when u feel a certain way and sometimes other people can't see it, u feel a bit insecure. Ur step-mother had good advice, my fiance loves it and tells me to wear whatever I want to because it is our wedding. Ur pink dress was awesome! Not too many people here (town) ever wear anything really fancy or anything somewhat different for their weddings, so unfortunately I have that kind of fear that because I really want to dress up that I may be perceived the wrong way. I think I have a bit of anxiety with the whole theme wedding in general, we love it but most of our mutual friends have a very different taste from me, and most of their weddings have been really laid-back (Their not as big on weddings) So, because I want something different, I am not sure if they will enjoy it as much and I am doing everything I can to make people happy for it. Here are the links for the dresses. I wanted to use the bottom of the first dress and the top of the second. If I could only pick one, I would rather the second. I'm not as demure to pull off the first, I really am not a pearl and intricate bedding type and I don't get that love feeling when I try it on. Sorry, if I came off to sensitive, I guess my anxiety is getting the better of me.
