Chit Chat

Hey-o, it's Friday!

I thought this week would never end! Anyone have any big weekend plans?

My office holiday party is tonight, but FI has a final tomorrow morning (yuck). He offered to handle getting DS from preschool/dinner/bath/bed, but I'm taking one for the team so he can focus on studying.  I'm sure there will be many more opportunities to see co-workers drunk lol. One of my best friends is coming down to the city this weekend with a friend of hers, so DS and I are meeting them at the Smithsonian for a day of sightseeing tomorrow -- should be fun, despite the crappy weather we're supposed to get! Saturday night we're baking Christmas cookies and Sunday we're *finally* getting the tree up. We've all been sick the past few weeks, so this is the first chance we've had. So excited!

  • Just going to a LYS to learn how to do finishing work on my knitting. I need to kitchener two halves of a scarf together, sew the ends of the scarf closed, and sew the brim up in a hat. Nothing big beyond that.
  • I have a final this afternoon, then I'm taking a bit of a break on Saturday for a family holiday party (Fi's cousin).  Then it's back to studying and writing papers: I have a final and two papers all due on Wed.  Then I'm home free!  Fi will be decorating the apt this weekend for Christmas, so I'm gonna take a break once in a while for hot cocoa and sitting by the fire.  Excited for snow, too.

  • Today I get to leave early from work :) Tomorrow, going to a boutique to see if they carry a BM dress I need for my FSIL's wedding and if they can alter my wedding dress and how much it would be. It's also laundry weekend, so doing laundry Sat-Sun and grocery shopping. My weekend is so much fun!

  • I'm going to dinner with my BFF tonight. There will be a lot of wine involved. Tomorrow, H is working so I'll be doing stuff around the apartment and wrapping gifts. We're going to the Devils (hockey) game tomorrow night. Sunday, H and I go our separate ways for football. I go to an Eagles bar and he goes to a Dolphins bar. Sunday night we're supposed to go to dinner with some of his family and I really don't want to go so I may accidentally drink too much so I have an excuse to stay home hahaha

  • @tmclawchick - What kind of cookies are you making? I made sugar cookies last Saturday on a whim (I just wanted to bake SOMETHING and I only had ingredients for sugar cookies).

  • @Swazzle we're doing sugar cookies too! I'm tempted to bake them tonight so all we have to do is decorate them tomorrow, but we'll see how on the ball I am. Also making gingerbread and grinch cookies, so I'm sure my diet will be suffering a slight setback lol...

Also, in a moment of insanity, I bought a gingerbread house kit. DS is sooooo excited to put it together. So that might have to happen this weekend as well. Hmm...

  • Today is promotion day at work, and everyone who gets promoted brings in treats. It's a pretty big deal so I'm excited to congratulate people and eat their yummy food lol. After work I am going out with 2 work friends for I believe Korean BBQ [one of then finally got his long overdue promotion so it is a mini celebration].

Tomorrow I was supposed to go out with a group of friends from elementary school [a sort of reunion of sorts], but we are supposed to get a ton of snow in NYC soooo IDK about that lol. I'm thinking of stocking up on fruits and making a sangria for tomorrow night for FI and myself in case we get stuck indoors. Sunday, just watching some football. Unless we have a Sangria and football day lol.

  • @tmclawchick, @alisonmarie258 - I was boring and just did regular shaped, non-decorated cookies. I had no fun stuff to put on top and I don't have cookie cutters! I should fix this.

  • @tmclawchick, what are grinch cookies?
  • @KeptInStitches These are grinch cookies. They're easy and will surely be the delicious downfall of my diet. But I don't care lol.

  • @KeptInStitches - I have such a love/hate relationship with Kitchener. One the one hand, I always feel like it takes for-ev-er, but on the other hand, the seam it produces is invisible and perfect. I just finished up a baby bunting last night, and the last set of Kitchener was 46 sts on each needle...blergh.

I'm going to a secret santa party with some girlfriends this weekend, and bringing all of my knitting and board games in case we get snowed in. And then I'm packing for my trip - 3 weeks in Europe, leaving on Thursday!

  • Funny story about gingerbread houses...

I didn't realize that people actually would make them and could eat them until I was in my 20s.  My Mom always got really annoyed when trying to make them, so she always ended up just glueing grahm crackers to a milk carton, just so we'd have something to decorate.  I give her an A+ for creativity, and we still laugh about it.

I used to love making these as a kid! And we always used frosting to stick the graham crackers to the milk carton, as though they would ever be edible, lol. I've tried to make a few as an adult and I always quit.

That.is.awesome! I don't now what I was even thinking; we tried doing this a few years ago and it was such a PITA. I must have been overcome by the holiday lights lol..

  • @krizzo17, I have 90 stitches on each needle ... this thing had better be pretty.
  • I'm off for 4 days so am doing very little Saturday and Sunday, finishing Christmas, shopping and visiting my new niece on Tuesday. Can't wait for baby cuddles! She'll only be a week old :)

FI and I go see the devils about once a month and he's having his Bach party at a devils game!
  • Going to game night at a friend's house tonight, seeing a prairie home companion tomorrow and have tickets for the hobbit on Sunday. But we're supposed to get a shit ton of snow tomorrow so not sure how all that's gonna work out.
  • House cleaning one handed (the other will be holding a wine glass). Writing thank you notes for an early received wedding gift and christmas gifts. Christmas shopping for those ridiculously hard to buy for people (namely my future inlaws and FI). Gift wrapping. Decorating and getting a tree. Chasing cats away from the tree. More wine. Bathing unhappy cats. Workout. FI is now on break from school, and intends to get a lot of study stuff done in prep for next term/determine what he wants to do after graduation. I've also gotta make my "Christmas-New Years week off to do list." Theres a wedding thrown in there somewhere. Gotta get a dress. Darn. Pass the wine!

That's a really fun bachelor party!

My H and I have season tickets and for his BP he wanted to go to see them play in another city but the logistics just wouldn't work out. They ended up just going to Montreal and the whole Flyers team was at the restaurant they went to for dinner the one night. Not his first choice of team to run into but still pretty cool!

That's a great story! We went to a Canadiens game when we were in Montreal a couple years ago. I love that city.
  • I'm going into work tomorrow morning then dinner with my friends in the evening. They are notoriously flaky so we shall see.

Sunday will be going to the library with my children. If I'm feeling ambitious I'll prep meals for the week while FI and his buddy take the kids to the science museum in the afternoon.
  • @cruffino - I really want to go to Montreal, I've never been. Canadiens fans are crazy! There are always a lot at the Rock when we play them. Some are nice, but the majority are not so much haha

  • I made our Christmas cookies the other day (shaped as snowmen, stars, stockings, candy canes, gingerbread men, and bells) because it was one of my dog's birthdays yesterday and he loooves sugar cookies. :)  This weekend FI and I are actually doing our Christmas.  He works all next week and then we're traveling to my parents' next weekend (12 hours to drive there :/) and staying at their house for a few days and then his parents' house (another 4 hours away) for a few days, so we'll be nowhere near home.  So to have our own Christmas together we're doing it early!  And that's a lot less presents we'd have to travel with!

  • Original plans: Make Christmas cookies with DH, decorate a gingerbread house with DH, wrap Christmas presents with DH, finish Christmas shopping with DH, go to a hockey game with DH.

New plans, courtesy of Snowmageddon and Everyone Let's Freak The Hell Out Snowstorm: Come to work early, pack a bag in case I have to spend the night at work, manage our weather presence for at least five, possible 15, hours, and hopefully not miss the hockey game with DH.

  • I had 3 snow days and two late starts out of the last snow storm (I live in an area that gets snow every year, and yet CANNOT handle it!), so I got a lot of stuff done this week. Which is good, because otherwise it was going to be a crazy busy weekend. I need to wrap gifts, bake a couple dozen cut-out cookies for the Christmas camp the club I sponsor is doing on Sunday, and clean up a little. I also have to fill the treat bags for my students, get stuff together for the project we will make for their parents, and finalize my lesson plans for the week. Oh, and I should probably start laundry and packing since my fiance is driving to town Friday afternoon and we're leaving as soon as I get home to visit both our families over the next two weeks.
  • My weekend plans rapidly changed to include start looking for a new car when mine got totaled this morning. Awesome. Otherwise it's cookie prep (sugar, gingerbread, fudge, caramel shortbreads, and rugelach.... so the last one isn't exactly traditionally christmassy, but it's delicious!), an orchestra concert, and hopefully tackling a much needed chair upholstery project.
  • @seshat303 omg is everyone ok??? So sorry to hear about your car, that's never fun... yuck :(

  • @tmclawchick Yeah, everyone was perfectly fine and the car that hit me barely took any damage (WTF????). I was pretty shocked when the insurance guy told me it was totaled.  Ugh... I've never actually been actively car shopping before and I can't say I'm looking forward to the experience.
